The Unborn is a very creepy horror film.

Cheesymonster · 15/10/2019 18:38

The Haunting (original black and white film from 1963 I think) made me so scared I cried.

Mammyloveswine · 15/10/2019 18:40

House on haunted hill freaked me out when I first watched it!

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 15/10/2019 18:49

From the 80s (teen years)
The Changeling
Halloween (not 80s but 78)
Poltergeist
Pet Semetary
The Shining

In later years
Final Destination (all of them, they fascinate me)
Cabin in the Woods
Cabin Fever
Eden Lake
Wolf Creek 1 and 2
The Others

There are a few Brit flicks that are good but not many have heard of them
Inbred (comedy horror set in Yorkshire)
The Disappeared (ghost tale set in London)
Dog Soldiers

LunasOrchid · 15/10/2019 18:52

Supernatural horrors are what get me! .

The conjuring 1 and 2
Annabelle 2
Insidious 1 and 2 - 3 and 4 are a bit meh
Haunting on hill house - Very creepy with fab jump scares
Haunted - TV series on Netflix ("true stories")

Dawninglory · 15/10/2019 18:53

Ring
The Grudge
Haven't watched another horror since!
Also took me years to venture into the attic!

StormOfSekhmet · 15/10/2019 18:54

Blair Witch Project. Had to have the hall light on for weeks after watching that!!

iklboo · 15/10/2019 18:54

YY to Cabin in the Woods.

Trewser · 15/10/2019 18:54

mother! (stick with it)

nononever · 15/10/2019 18:54

Someone mentioned wolf creek in another forum I used to frequent. I felt sick with dread watching it.

I had to put it off, couldn't bear it, it seemed so real.

StarlightIntheNight · 15/10/2019 19:01

Thanks for all the responses. A lot of ones I have not seen. I will have to look everything up and decide :) I am mainly scared by ghost type horror films. Murders don't scare me :) Although, I really enjoyed watching saw!

I really enjoyed 6th sense. It was just the right amount of scary and really interesting story in case you have not seen it. Its a good one to check out.

Martyrs is revolting.

Krisskrosskiss · 15/10/2019 19:34

I absolutely love horror and spooky atmospheric ghost stories etc My faves are

Martyrs (the original one not seen the remake dont know if it's any good)
Hereditary
It Follows
Kill List
Antichrist
The House that Jack Built
Switchblade Romance
The Wailing
The Witch
The Witch in the Window
Triangle
Dont Look now
Midsommar
The Ritual
Audition
I am the Pretty thing that lives in the house
The Others
The Thing
Alien
Event Horizon
Sunshine
28 Days Later
Wake Wood
Symptoms
Hostel
The shining
Creep
The Dead Girl
A Tale of Two Sisters
Old Boy
The Wicker Man
The Invitation
The Brood
A Dark Song
We are Still Here
Rosemary's Baby
Peeping Tom
Videodrome
Repulsion
Susperia

I'd include stuff like
Maps to the Stars
Eraserhead
Moon
Stoker
Even though those arent strictly 'horror' they are still quite unsettling/scary

And I love Gulliermo Del Torro 'horror' films like Crimson Peak and The Devils Backbone but they arent really horror more romantic/emotional ghost stories

BuildBuildings · 15/10/2019 19:38

The orphanage. It's terrifying!

secretsciurusvulgaris · 15/10/2019 19:41

The Ring - the original Japanese version. Terrifying.

Krisskrosskiss · 15/10/2019 19:41

I forgot Neon Demon!... I love that film its nuts. Catogarised as a horror but it's a bit out there and quite funny at points,

QuestionableMouse · 15/10/2019 19:45

The Descent is horrible and put me off horror. Ditto Event Horizon. Gave me nightmares (though I think I was maybe 14 when I first saw it!)

Splinter is another one you might enjoy.

The Crazies is good.

Buccanarab · 15/10/2019 19:49

I spit on your grave (remake), I saw the devil (Korean original) and Green Room, in particular, are fantastic films in the mold of Eden Lake/Wolf Creek. I usually don't flinch at gore but the arm scene in green room got me (almost lost my own arm when young and it brought back the horror of looking down at it).

Audition, August Underground Mordum,
Vomit Slaughter Dolls (I know..Confused) and A Serbian Film take it up a notch from the other three and if they're not enough for you then you need professional help.

Slight odd suggest too but if you like paranormal/ghosty stuff and have access to a ps4/xbox then I highly recommend downloading outlast. Hands down the scariest game I've played (until the end chapter).

Krisskrosskiss · 15/10/2019 19:50

I forgot Under the Shadow and Raw as well.... I'll stop now though I bet theres loads more good ones I forgot.

Buccanarab · 15/10/2019 19:50

Slightly odd suggestion*

humanfemale · 15/10/2019 19:58

Wolf Creek. And I LOVE horror generally, I've seen most but this one did something extra for me. Literally from ten mins into the film, was in 10/10 levels of suspense and horror until the end. It doesn't let up. But I saw it in the cinema and wonder if I rewatched it all these years later, at home, would I still think it's as horrific?

Too scared to find out!

Charley1988 · 15/10/2019 19:58

Scary Movie

sukieinthegraveyard · 15/10/2019 19:59

Hereditary- very scary, gave me nightmares; Toni Colette brilliant in it

Another vote for Wolf Creek & The Ring

MissClementine · 15/10/2019 19:59

Halloween, the original one, a firm favourite growing up.

‘’The keys oh the keys’’ Jamie Lee Curtis fumbling for the keys to the door! Never forget the tension.

humanfemale · 15/10/2019 20:01

Also anyone who likes unsettling films and hasn't seen Get Out yet, do yourself a favour and watch it ASAP!
