Since its close to Halloween and all :) Please tell me the best scary movie you have seen recently and even better if it is on netflix!

OP posts:
Mordred · 16/10/2019 11:18

'The Autopsy of Jane Doe' is delightfully creepy and scary.

covetingthepreciousthings · 16/10/2019 11:19

*A Suburbian Film.

Don't watch it, it's the darkest and most horrific horror I've ever come across with no limits. A newborn baby is raped, for example*

How is that entertainment? Definitely wouldn't want to watch that, thanks for the heads up.

BusterTheBulldog · 16/10/2019 11:28

Glad others have mentioned Eden Lake, really stayed with me, I think because as others have said, you can see it could happen!

I LOVED the haunting of hill house, really emotionally effected me.

The original Blair witch project also gets me, mainly as I have a vivid imagination and have to spend time in the dark in wooded fields rounding up horses I think... always think of it!

PumpkinPieAlibi · 16/10/2019 11:47

A Suburbian Film.

I think this is meant to be A Serbian Film. Although suburbia is pretty terrifying too Grin

My list would be:

It Follows
Halloween (original)
Shutter (original Thai film)
The Witch
The Thing
Train to Busan
28 Days Later
VHS 1 & 2
Cloverfield
Devil
The Fourth Kind
REC 1 & 2 (original Spanish films)
The Mist

DisappointingBanana · 16/10/2019 12:02

I was also going to post a warning re: A Serbian Film, as I saw it mentioned above.

No, I’ve never watched it, but was damn near traumatised reading about it! If you read any synopsis it sounds like the most horrific and depraved thing ever. As a PP, not sure how it passes as entertainment.

Trewser · 16/10/2019 12:09

A serbian film and Martyrs are both repulsive.

Crazyoldmaurice · 16/10/2019 12:17

The orphanage - Spanish film by the guy who did pans labyrinth... chilling!

Honeybee85 · 16/10/2019 12:49

@EscapeTheCastle

Oh I did not know that!
I thought it was a Netflix Original and therefor must have been available on UK Netflix as well.

In my country of origin it was available on Netflix already 5 years ago Blush

namechangetheworld · 16/10/2019 13:46

I absolutely love a good horror thread. My favourites:

The Loved Ones.
Train To Busan.
Martyrs (original).
Inside (original)).
American Mary.
Bone Tomahawk.
La Casa Muda.
Lovely Molly.
Them.
High Tension.
The Collector.
Absentia.
Sinister.
Frontier(s).
Jug Face.
Eden Lake.
A Tale of Two Sisters.
The Innkeepers.
P2.
Rec.
Apostle.
Hereditary.
The Orphanage.
The Devils Backbone.
Happy Hunting.
The Devils Candy.
The Ruins.
The Woman.
Citadel.
Splinter.
Creep (2004).
May.
In Fear.
House of 1000 Corpses.
The Hills Have Eyes (remake).
Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale.
The Children.
Better Watch Out.

As everyone keeps mentioning it, A Serbian Film has a revolting subject matter, but it was shot beautifully and the lead actor was absolutely astounding, so credit where credit's due.

namechangetheworld · 16/10/2019 13:51

Can I add Hell House and Grave Encounters to my list? Both should technically be terrible as the subject matters are done to death, but they are genuinely scary.

LonginesPrime · 16/10/2019 14:02

I second Better Watch Out, The Descent and The Others.

And House on Haunted Hill (the remake with Geoffrey Rush and Famke Jannsen).

Fuma · 16/10/2019 14:04

Heartofglass12345 · 16/10/2019 14:51

blankiesandunicorns · 16/10/2019 19:27

The Exorcist - still terrifying
It follows
Poltergeist
The shining
Bird box
The exorcism of Emily rose
The paranormal activity films

There's probably more, I love a horror

Potnoodledoo · 17/10/2019 15:40

This is one of the best.

Babyg1995 · 17/10/2019 15:48

Creep the underground station one
Martyrs French one
Wolf creek
Hellraiser
Sinister
The ring
Audition
Insideus all of them
The nun
Crucifixion
It the orioriginal
Scream
Mara
The dark
Evil dead

I have more just can't think .

Babyg1995 · 17/10/2019 15:50

Oh I forgot silent hill and house of 1000 corpses

ALongHardWinter · 17/10/2019 16:18

The Woman in Black.
Creep.
Wolf Creek.
An American Werewolf in London (although I'd say this was more of a comedy/horror than an outright horror film).

JollyHolly30 · 22/10/2019 21:13

@PumpkinPieAlibi I'm so glad you listed The Fourth Kind. I see every movie that comes out in the cinema and love horror - can watch anything at all, and can honestly say that The Fourth Kind is the only movie that has ever frightened me! I had forgotten the name of it since I watched it years ago, and I'm so glad you've reminded me of it!
