30 days of night

Binforky · 16/10/2019 07:02

I found 30 days of night really boring but then again I saw it at the cinema where some teenagers had to be escorted out for fighting during the film so kind of killed the atmosphere.

I liked the Babadook it really upset me when I had watched it as I was struggling with becoming a single mum and could relate to the woman in it.

Someone's mentioned VHS2 that really stuck with me it's just so weird and disturbing.

House of a thousand corpses was a strange film it really bothered me but can't really say why.

Creep (not the train) is great I need to watch the second one.

Loved get out.

I find alot of newer films with too much CGI really dull as they seem to lose something IT for example just seemed silly.

Others I like are

The ring
The woman in black
Drag me to hell (I find it funny)
The grudge
The original Halloween

AgentCooper · 16/10/2019 07:44

Wolf Creek and Blair Witch are my two scariest.

It Follows, The Orphanage and Us are great too.

And Ghostwatch. Oh my God. DH got me it on dvd and I thought it would be a load of nonsense but I was petrified.

nononever · 16/10/2019 08:40

I'll second the original versions of The Ring and The Grudge. Blair Witch didn't scare me and I'm a total wuss when it comes to scary movies.

BunchMunch · 16/10/2019 08:45

Dead of Night - a British classic. Terrifying, especially the ventriloquist's dummy.
Rosemary's Baby - final scene with the crib still haunts me now.
Deliver us from evil - based on a true story.
The Other side of the door - stayed with me for a long time.
The Shining - no explanation needed!

Zombieseverywhere · 16/10/2019 09:16

I loved horror films until I watched Hostel, terrified me and put me off horror for a long time!

DisappointingBanana · 16/10/2019 09:20

Aw, I never find films scary, and I’d love to... I usually just find them ridiculous, especially when they get supernatural; that’s why the realistic ‘people as horror’ ones are best (for me!) However I did like:

Rec
The Descent
Creep (not train one)
Black Christmas (original)
The Thing (original )

Eden Lake isn’t scary, exactly, just horrible. I had to stop watching as it was so brutal. I guess that must mean it was well done if I was convinced enough to feel that!

The80sweregreat · 16/10/2019 09:20

Orphan was a good movie. I don't like horror movies but that wasn't too bad.
Rosemary's baby is intriguing rather than your average horror and although it's old it's entertaining. Book is good too.

Titsntats · 16/10/2019 09:34

30 Days of Night absolutely terrified me, I had nightmares for ages! I think it was because they looked so realistic which made it look believable

CSIblonde · 16/10/2019 09:49

Love a good horror film:
The Shining
Halloween
Omen
Candy Man
Them
Sinister
Midnight Meat Train
The Last Exorcism (the silky female voice of the Demon freaked me out way more than the usual, tired guttural male snarling)

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 16/10/2019 10:06

Oh Candyman ,, Yes . Forgot to add that,
Tony Todds voice is mesmerising . Perfect for that role.

EscapeTheCastle · 16/10/2019 10:10

The Conjuring
This is scary plus you have the added excitement of seeing Patrick Wilson who is very, very attractive indeedio.
He's also in a horror on Netflix that's newly appeared on there called "In the Tall Grass" A Stephen King adaptation. Haven't seen it yet. Gets not great reviews. I think I've gone way off topic here!

Gone from Netflix sadly but scared me good and proper "February"

Honeybee85 · 16/10/2019 10:11

Drag me to hell.
Really terrifying.

Still scared of goats because of it to this day.

AGermFreeAdolescent · 16/10/2019 10:13

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned yet but Fire Walk With Me, but you have to watch Twin Peaks first to fully appreciate it.

Honeybee85 · 16/10/2019 10:13

Oh and not really scary but just a great horror series on Netflix: Penny Dreadful.

One of my faves on Netflix from all I’ve seen there

Potnoodledoo · 16/10/2019 10:13

I find a lot of films dont finish properly. They start great and then halfway through, you know theres going to be a sequel. It ruins it.

AGermFreeAdolescent · 16/10/2019 10:15

@Honeybee85
Drag me to hell.
Really terrifying.

That is one of my favourite funniest films ever! I didn’t find it scary in the slightest but almost hurt myself from laughing so hard all the way through!

Honeybee85 · 16/10/2019 10:18

@AGermFreeAdolescent

Really? 😅
Honestly I was scared for weeks after it to wake up in the middle of the night with a creepy old woman laying next to me 😂

hammeringinmyhead · 16/10/2019 10:23

Another vote for It Follows. Really sticks with you.

Also REC. I had to turn it off and watch the end in daylight!

MustardScreams · 16/10/2019 10:29

I had a nightmare about It Follows just from reading about it, so I’ve never had the guts to actually watch the thing. Completely ridiculous!

EscapeTheCastle · 16/10/2019 10:53

@Honeybee85
Penny Dreadful is awesome but it was on Sky Atlantic and has not been on Netflix unfortunately.

Looks like you can pay for it to stream on Amazon or by a dvd.

Dieu · 16/10/2019 10:58

I really, really enjoyed Apocalypto. Stayed with me for ages after, even if I did think I was going to have a heart attack during! It's not an easy watch, but an excellent one, if that makes sense.

Mrsboombastic99 · 16/10/2019 11:02

The haunting of Hill House was quote creepy (series not film but I really liked it). The wailing, 1922, Hush.

Mrsboombastic99 · 16/10/2019 11:04

Apocalypto is a great movie!
