To get in my pyjamas as soon as I get home?

So I work in an office, usual 9-5 job and get home about 6ish on a night. Just before leaving today a colleague asked me what I was doing tonight, so I said oh nothing probably just get in my pyjamas and watch crap TV like usual. She was absolutely gobsmacked that I get home and change into my pyjamas rather than changing into "normal" clothes.

Is this weird? I've done it for years and DP does the exact same. I can't stand being in formal work clothes in my own home and it seems like such a waste of effort to get changed into a t-shirt and jeans just to change clothes again a few hours later.

So what's the norm with this? AIBU for getting into my pyjamas straight away?

I don't own PJs, so as soon as I get in from work, I switch my bra for one of those Belvia jobs and put my nightie & dressing gown on.

Pollydocket · 03/10/2019 18:49

My winter routine.
I wake up, pop pjs/ dressing gown on.
Shower change to a lovely dress
Do the school run
Straight home, change into pjs.
3.00 pm change into dress
School run
3.50 home... pjs back on

THe children change immediately on return😂

You would think I’m a really glamorous/ well dress mum....it’s all Smoke and mirrors.

Paperdolly · 03/10/2019 18:55

Some people have been known to do the school run and shop in their PJs. Whatever do they change into to chill?

Asta19 · 03/10/2019 18:55

I get hot at night so just sleep in a t shirt and pants. But I wear PJ’s all the time. I work from home too and I’ll shower in the morning and put PJ’s on. I don’t feel “sluggish” wearing them, maybe because I don’t wear them to bed. They’re just comfortable clothes that happened to be designed as nightwear. But really what’s the difference? I only wear “outdoor” clothes to go out. If I’m wearing a jumper and jeans I might keep the jumper on at home but the jeans would definitely come off ASAP!

Tyrotoxicity · 03/10/2019 19:42

Slightly bemused that people who wear trousers to relax are horrified by people wearing jeans to relax.

As soon as I'm through the front door my jeans come off along with my shoes. Unless I've got company they don't get replaced with anything until it's time to leave the house again.

Both my grandmas would be utterly horrified. Grin

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 03/10/2019 19:55

I have never done this. Most nights I'm out and about but another thing is i only wear a vest top and shorts.

Do you all have “proper” pyjamas!?

Robin2323 · 03/10/2019 20:17

I could ware my work clothes till bed but they'd get creased so at the moment I using one of Dh's large t shirts as a top with a pair of Cotten 3/4 stripped pyjamas and my lovely snuggly dressing gown
on top.
Come bed time I'll just sleep in the T shirt :)
It's only the last few years I've stated doing this.
But I have always changed out of my work clothes.

Ponoka7 · 03/10/2019 20:25

I've got that used to eating in my PJs that i feel constrained eating wearing, bra, top etc.

People who don't do this are assuming that the pjs put on are then slept in. I have different categories of PJs and nightwear, as i do clothes. So, scruffy, casual, warm and a bit nicer.

Ponoka7 · 03/10/2019 20:28

Re Grandmothers. My GM was born 1911. She had house dresses, full checked housework dresses (but more like an overall), a housecoat and posher dressing gown.

The corsets came off indoors, just like today's bras.

mnthrowaway2099 · 03/10/2019 20:45

I shower both morning and evening so would only put sleeping clothes on after my evening shower, rather than just changing out of my work clothes. (I find people that don’t wash after being out vile, tbh.)

In between getting home from work and showering, I might throw something basic on in between but I wouldn’t put much effort in, eg a t shirt or sweatshirt

YANBU

I always get in PJs when I’m in for the day. I usually work from home but still get dressed. On days I’m not working, I resent having to get dressed just for the school runs, though I have been known to do the morning one in my PJs! I drive and don’t get out of the car, in the afternoons I have to go to class for pick up so get dressed.

I actually resent Mondays because I go into work so have to get dressed and my son has Cubs so I can’t get into PJs 8.45pm after we’ve got home.

gingerbiscuits · 07/10/2019 21:16

I quite often cook the tea in my PJs!! I'm always in them before my 12yr old, too!! If I'm not going anywhere, I can't wait to change out of my work stuff & put either PJs or 'loungewear' on. Especially in the Winter.

fairydustandpixies · 07/10/2019 21:28

I WFH and have video calls regularly. Luckily they can only see my top 'dressed' half and not see that I'm wearing my PJ bottoms which I usually slob about in - unless I'm expecting a parcel or need to leave the house! 🤣😂

TheDarkPassenger · 07/10/2019 21:34

For me pjs go on when I’m done for the night and am not planning to do fuck all else like housework or even loading the dishwasher. That all gets done, tea gets done, the kids get done and I shower and pj up. This means mummy is guna sit on the couch and not move again until she drags herself to bed!

anyoneseenmykeys · 07/10/2019 21:44

It's your home, you can wear a gorilla suit with a tutu or a baby onesie, it's nobody's business.

I just don't get the angst against clothes and shoes, especially casual clothes like jeans. Why do people buy clothes that are so uncomfortable that they must take them off the minute they walk home? Confused

I can't go to bed without having a shower first, I feel dirty, but when you buy clothes that actually fit, surely they are comfortable to wear at home, unless you specifically exercise and are more comfy with sport clothes and sports bras?

I don't care, I just don't get it!

But I don't get women who spend a fortune on shoes and take them off after 30mn at a party - the bare feet look is really not attractive, buy shoes that fit, unless you are on a beach it makes your whole outfit look so much better.

Butterfly84 · 07/10/2019 21:48

I have a shower and put my pjs on quite soon after I get home.

I'm at home and want to relax with no tight waistbands etc. Wear what you want in your own home.

LemonPrism · 08/10/2019 00:37

Doesn't everyone do this? I sleep naked, I don't have two drawers of PJs for bed... they're just comfy clothes, sometimes I wear loungewear or sports clothes but always comfies

TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt · 08/10/2019 00:48

I work in care so wearing work clothes at home is not suitable. I hate wearing outside clothes indoors. So I get home and put on the pj's I've had on the night before. I do tea, sit and eat, then tidy up and potter around.

I take youngest to bed at 8pm, run a bath whilst doing bedtime story etc, then bath and fresh pj's on for lounging on the sofa and my bedtime.

Lozz22 · 08/10/2019 01:26

I've pretty much lived in my pjs this past week. I'm currently going through my 4th miscarriage and pj's are the only things I've been able to tolerate wearing on my tummy for long periods of time. Even during my dinner breaks at work the first thing I do is change out my uniform and throw my pjs on. That's more for I usually miss my mouth or food drops off the fork before I gets to my mouth so saves me messing my uniform up. I cannot sleep in pjs though. Can't be doing with feeling tangled up. Although I might if it's really cold in winter sleep in thermals

minesagin37 · 08/10/2019 01:35

I did yesterday. It was fab. I won't tonight because I will be running. Do what you like.

ohtheholidays · 08/10/2019 01:57

YANBU,it depends how I'm feeling and what sort of day I've had(Im ill and disabled)but one thing that will never change is that as soon as I get into the house my shoes/boots are off,bra off and hair tied up Grin

Then I can sit down and relax.

OooErMissus · 08/10/2019 02:01

YANBU to do what you want in the privacy of your own home.

But I find it a bit slobby and grim. I'd rather wear actual clothes - they tend to be much nicer than pyjamas.

Plus, we have friends in and out of the house a lot of the time, so I certainly don't want them to see me in pyjamas.

Sobeyondthehills · 08/10/2019 02:50

When I do the morning school run and know I am doing the afternoon school run, i stay in my jeans, if I change it feels more relaxed, however after the school run, as long as I dont have to go out again, I am straight into comfy clothes

Zoflorabore · 08/10/2019 03:22

Once the door is closed and I’m not going anywhere else it’s bra off/pyjamas on.

I also remove jewellery except rings and put my hair in messy bun.

I would love to be able to wear pyjamas 24/7, they’re so bloody comfortable!

TheSerenDipitY · 08/10/2019 03:42

i do this too... as soon as i get home, even if it is just for a few hours i get into my pj's or lounge-wear as it is called, it is instantly comfortable and the fabric is so soft n snuggly and when i have to go out again i change back into normal clothes, i dont wear them to bed though as i dont like feeling constricted in bed
