To get in my pyjamas as soon as I get home?

So I work in an office, usual 9-5 job and get home about 6ish on a night. Just before leaving today a colleague asked me what I was doing tonight, so I said oh nothing probably just get in my pyjamas and watch crap TV like usual. She was absolutely gobsmacked that I get home and change into my pyjamas rather than changing into "normal" clothes.

Is this weird? I've done it for years and DP does the exact same. I can't stand being in formal work clothes in my own home and it seems like such a waste of effort to get changed into a t-shirt and jeans just to change clothes again a few hours later.

So what's the norm with this? AIBU for getting into my pyjamas straight away?

Pj’s all the way, unless I need to go out later. On my wfh days, I mostly stay in my pj’s all day, unless it’s summer and I have to do the school run. In the winter, I just put a big coat on over pj’s and off I go!

woodhill · 02/10/2019 21:43

I like to put on track bottoms and top, I don't feel warm enough in pyjamas and would only put on after a bath before bed

thespellhasbeenbroken123 · 02/10/2019 21:45

I literally put my pyjamas on as soon as I get in the house, I keep a few pairs downstairs so I can get them on in about 30 seconds

It's rubbed off onto my son because everyday he comes home from school, sits on the stairs and by the time I have my pyjamas on he's in his
He's just turned 4 😂

My partner however, stays in jeans most of the evening
I literally can't fathom it ahhhhrgg

notso · 02/10/2019 21:47

Don't you all have 'house scruffs'?
No. Just clothes. If I've been out dressed in smart clothes or a dress then I'll change when I get in but if I'm in normal day wear, jeans and a top then I stay like that until bed time.
I've got old leggings and a top for decorating in but that's as far as it goes.

GregoriaTheGreat · 02/10/2019 21:48

I don't own any pyjamas (or jeans). However, I think you are absolutely right to change into whatever you are comfortable in after a day at work, OP. So YAabsolutelyNBU.

FrangipaniBlue · 02/10/2019 21:56

I live in my PJs even during the day at weekends if I'm not going out.

I sleep in nothing so I put my PJs on when I get up - no sweaty slept in PJs.

I have a friend who gets up, gets a shower, blow dries and straightens her hair, does her make up and gets dressed. Even when she KNOWS she's not actually leaving the house. "Just in case".

Now that, is bonkers!

I guess it depends on how you've been brought up - never did it when I was growing up and I/my DDs don't do it now. DD's usually stay in school uniform until bedtime; youngest 2 at primary school will stay pretty much as they are, maybe swap skirts for trousers but will leave jumper/shirt/tie on. Eldest 2 will loosen ties/untuck shirts/put a hoodie on. What I do depends on which shift I'm on and what time I get in. Early shift I get home about 3pm so will change out of work uniform into jeans/top so I can get on with household jobs, late shift I get in about 10pm so I just stay in work uniform but take off jacket/loose tie/maybe take off tights until I go to bed (usually about 1am by the time I'm relaxed), nightshift I get home about 9am so stay in work uniform until I've walked the dog/had breakfast/hung washing out, then I go to bed!

The first thing I do as I walk through the door is remove the boob prison. If I could unclasp it and turn my door key at the same time I would, but I've never been a one-hander.

Then it's off with outside clothes. Outside clothes belong on the outside of my house. Stretchy waistbands only once you get through my front door. Those rules apply to all visitors too. If friends are coming over to visit for dinner they know that they must bring stretchy stuff or face my wrath.

God I love PJs

WispyTurnip · 02/10/2019 22:36

Honestly, I find it inexplicable, unless your job involves a sweaty or constricting uniform, or is very dirty, so you need a shower as soon as you get home. And the bra thing is even weirder — have only ever come across it on Mn, that people habitually rip off their bra as soon as they get in the door!

Ikeameatballs · 02/10/2019 22:39

Leggings or harem pants and a hoodie here, usually put on after dinner and a shower.

whatisthismess · 02/10/2019 22:40

I do the same if I'm not going back out. I do feel more productive in clothes though and more lazy in pjs.

BertrandRussell · 02/10/2019 22:48

One of my children once asked me how I could tell the difference between my clothes and my pyjamas,.......

ilovepixie · 02/10/2019 22:55

Love wearing nighties or pyjamas around the house. Take them off before bed as I sleep naked.

SAMlady · 02/10/2019 23:00

I've always said time from front door to pjs on would be my Olympic sport. I can't wait to get pjs on, comfy all evening and quicker to bed!

Gogreen · 02/10/2019 23:01

Most people that get home from work and change into normal clothes are people who sleep naked at night...nothing wrong with either way

ElizaPancakes · 02/10/2019 23:06

YANBU. We never did this as kids, I’d stay in school clothes till bedtime (or my ballet gear on those nights!) but with my own kids practically the second we’re home we’re in our pyjamas!

ElizaPancakes · 02/10/2019 23:06

@Gogreen nah I have pyjamas for lounging and sleep in the buff Smile

CrowleysBentley · 02/10/2019 23:45

I don't wear PJs, but I have my comfy jersey trousers or leggings, baggy t-shirts or vest tops and my big fluffy dressing gown that go on as soon as I get in, same thing really. Bra is replaced with a comfy stretchy crop top/sleep bra thing too, I used to go without but I am more comfortable with some support.

DS and DD both change into their PJs the second they get in from work too.

StCharlotte · 02/10/2019 23:52

If I wore pyjamas other than for bed, I'd think I was ill.

In the winter I usually change into "comfies" though - leggings and soft tunic type things. Except tonight and I ended up on the floor in a black skirt cuddling our blond hairy dog

KatharinaRosalie · 03/10/2019 06:42

Comfy clothes - sure. PJs are for sleeping. I would feel really bad if I knocked on neighbour's door at 6PM and they answered in their nightwear, I'd assume I woke them up or they were ill.

Surely normal leggings and t-shirt or sweater are just as comfy?

poppycity · 03/10/2019 06:44

I wish I did this and loved it when I used to. Now DC have activities so workday feels like it goes until 8 pm or later.

Enjoy your pajamas with no guilt. It's a little self-care after a long day!

Animum2 · 03/10/2019 07:28

Same, pjs on as soon as I get in

Heyboyo · 03/10/2019 07:41

PJs after my shower when I get in from work then naked for bed

Bluntness100 · 03/10/2019 07:54

No I couldn't do this, I do have house clothes, leggings, vests, that sort of thing, but I couldn't put pjs on, it would feel too scruffy.

I also agree with the pp on bras. I don't understand why so many women on here find them so uncomfortable, for me, they are only uncomfortable if I have put on weight and the bra is too small.

Passionaria · 03/10/2019 08:11

Does anyone else have thier ‘indoor clothes’ that you wear in the privacy of your home and not out and about. Then your ‘Outdoor clothes’ that you go out in ?

Absolutely the above. Indoor clothes tend to be oversized nightdresses in winter and lighter beach cover up type garments in summer. I do change into a soft bra when at home just because it feels better to have a bit of support.

I work from home fairly often, and despite the 'dress for work' advice given here and there it's never been an issue as I'm no more productive in a skirt and jumper than in a Tatty Teddy dressing gown.

Bath before bed then nothing but moisturiser when under the duvet.
