To get in my pyjamas as soon as I get home?

So I work in an office, usual 9-5 job and get home about 6ish on a night. Just before leaving today a colleague asked me what I was doing tonight, so I said oh nothing probably just get in my pyjamas and watch crap TV like usual. She was absolutely gobsmacked that I get home and change into my pyjamas rather than changing into "normal" clothes.

Is this weird? I've done it for years and DP does the exact same. I can't stand being in formal work clothes in my own home and it seems like such a waste of effort to get changed into a t-shirt and jeans just to change clothes again a few hours later.

So what's the norm with this? AIBU for getting into my pyjamas straight away?

I get home from work, shower, then straight into pjs. Today I have a day off with no plans to go out,so guess what I'm wearing today? Yep,pjs again.

I sleep naked so they haven't been on all night.

Rainbowknickers · 03/10/2019 10:17

I get in and sling my pjs on-everytime
If I’m not going out I don’t even get dressed
My fella doesn’t own any!
Not even a dressing gown

Weirdo...

Morgan12 · 03/10/2019 10:22

I think people who wear normal clothes at home are the weird ones. Who wants to sit around in jeans ffs.

And don't even get me started on shoes.

DobbyLovesSocks · 03/10/2019 10:33

YANBU

I love nothing more than browsing Asda or Primark for new pyjamas. I tend to wear joggers and t-shirts (DH's old ones that are too small for him) at weekend during day but evenings once I am home and won't be going out again PJ's/lounge wear go on and don't come off. I do kep my bra on/change into a bralette as don't like being without.
DH also has cotton and jersey shorts he wears with t-shirts. He wears shirt and trousers for work so once he comes in they go in the wash/are re-hung.

I saw a meme on fb the other day about a subscription service for pyjamas (pay each month and get sent a new set of pj's). I would totally sign up for that if it existed!!!

FilamentBabe · 03/10/2019 12:31

As soon as the school run is done, if I'm not leaving the house again, its pyjama time. My dh is shocked if I'm still in normal clothes by the time he gets home from work lol.

caperplips · 03/10/2019 12:44

yup! The very first thing I do when I get home from work is change into PJ bottoms, t-shirt and hoodie. I have to wear semi-formal work clothes and there's no way I want to cook, wash-up, do laundry or slob on the sofa in them. I hang up my suit jackets and sort out what needs to be washed and leave out what I am planning on wearing the next day.

If I come home but have to go out again - theatre, school meeting etc I change into more casual jeans,. nice trainers etc and then straight into PJ's once I get home from that.

At weekends, unless going out I could spend the entire day in PJ's and then shower and change to fresh ones going to bed.

I hate sitting around watching tv etc in jeans etc

Micsam89 · 03/10/2019 12:48

I'm in my pjs as often as possible. After work, I usually shower straight away and hop in my pjs. I stay in them all weekend if I'm not going out. I've even been known to go to dinner at my parents or grandmas in them. I just feel more comfy and relaxed in them!

exWifebeginsAgainat46 · 03/10/2019 12:56

i’m disabled, no work for me. on days when there’s nothing i have to go out and do, and i’m feeling reasonably well it’s grubs all day long. soft crop top bra, joggers, big jumper and slipper boots.

on bad days, my jarmies stay on all day.

it’s important to have a routine though. therefore, the theme tune to Pointless signifies the time of day when a bath/shower and night-time jarmies are required.

at weekends, who cares? not me.

pumpkinpie01 · 03/10/2019 12:59

I rarely wear pyjamas only in bed when it's very cold. All the people that put pj's on as soon as you get in from work don't you ever need to just pop out and end up getting changed again ?

RIBlue · 03/10/2019 13:08

I don’t really understand what people are wearing that is so uncomfortable you can’t make dinner and watch TV in it!

I get home, do evening stuff and then either go out again or lounge on the sofa in whatever I happen to be wearing. When it’s bedtime I have a shower and put pyjamas on.

At weekends I wake up, maybe wander around downstairs with a cup of coffee for 10 minutes then get dressed whether I have immediate plans or not!

QuestionableMouse · 03/10/2019 13:19

It's not that my normal clothes are uncomfortable but cotton Pj's are much easier to wash and dry than jeans, for example. I also do crafty stuff like baking or soap making and so don't want my good clothes getting marked.

I sleep nude though so the Pj's come off before bed and I wear a fresh set every other day or whatever

healthylifestylee · 03/10/2019 13:25

I have two levels of pyjamas
I have the pyjama clothes that I walk round the house in etc and then I change into an oversized T-shirt to actually sleep as I love being cosy with blankets and the duvet

FizzyIce · 03/10/2019 13:26

I actually think I own more pairs of pyjamas and lounge wear than normal clothes ..
You can’t beat a new pair of pj’s!

TheDogsMother · 03/10/2019 14:53

I always thought PJs in the evening was very odd but it seems that I am the odd one Confused. I work from home so usually in jeans and a top and this is what I wear til bedtime. The only PJs I have owned (except as a kid) were bought for an overnight hospital stay.

I'm definitely in the minority here !

ILikeyourHairyHands · 03/10/2019 14:59

People eat dinner in their pyjamas?

I am SHOCKED to my very core.

Mopmum35 · 03/10/2019 15:01

Have to say love my pj's

ILikeyourHairyHands · 03/10/2019 15:02

I dont own anything vaguely resembling pjs or loungewear, nor does DH or any man I've ever been with, or any family member, I thought this was completely normal.

I feel like my world's just been turned upside down!

GreenShadow · 03/10/2019 18:12

Don't care what other people do, but personally I'd find pyjamas too cold to wear in the evenings. Normally (in the autumn, winter) I'm wearing vest, long-sleeve t-shirt and warm jumper plus trousers and socks. Pyjamas just wouldn't be as warm, even with a dressing gown.

The first thing I do is get out of boob jail and put on my jammies. I don’t give a single shit if anyone pops round. This is me in my natural habitat. This are my pendulous breasts dangling by my waist. Don’t like it? Please don’t visit me after 5pm.

Titsywoo · 03/10/2019 18:29

Yes i often put my pjs on when I get home (bra off too of course). I guess I consider them my lounging around clothes since I sleep naked. I'm more concerned with my own comfort that some sort of weird clothing ettiquette. How much washing must you do if you change into casual clothes when you get home from work then into pjs at bedtime?!

DappledThings · 03/10/2019 18:30

Every day! Unless we have company or are not at home.

For me it's not so much about comfort, I don't find my normal clothes uncomfortable but I like having one less chore(getting changed, hanging up clothes that don't need washing, putting other clothes in the basket) to do before going to sleep.

AnnaMariaDreams · 03/10/2019 18:31

Re: cold. PJs are covered by a fleece dressing gown, except in heatwaves.
Re: shocked that people eat dinner in PJs. I know you’re joking but I seriously eat dinner in bed if I’ve had a particularly tiring day at work and DH and I don’t want to watch the same thing on TV. DH brings me dinner on a tray Grin Yes he’s a good’un not like lots of feckless MN DH’sGrin

madcatladyforever · 03/10/2019 18:36

YANBU I get straight into PJS after work if I'm not going out and a nice fluffy dressing gown then get on with my evening.

inthekitchensink · 03/10/2019 18:39

Nah, pjs for bed only here, comfy clothes for staying home - couldn’t cook/eat in pjs
