To get in my pyjamas as soon as I get home?

So I work in an office, usual 9-5 job and get home about 6ish on a night. Just before leaving today a colleague asked me what I was doing tonight, so I said oh nothing probably just get in my pyjamas and watch crap TV like usual. She was absolutely gobsmacked that I get home and change into my pyjamas rather than changing into "normal" clothes.

Is this weird? I've done it for years and DP does the exact same. I can't stand being in formal work clothes in my own home and it seems like such a waste of effort to get changed into a t-shirt and jeans just to change clothes again a few hours later.

So what's the norm with this? AIBU for getting into my pyjamas straight away?

I always fling off work stuff and into runners/joggers when at home in the evening. I don’t look so ‘disreputable’ that I couldn’t answer the door to some emergency/neighbour or put the rubbish out etc. But definitely comfy rules on home evenings.

Ohyesiam · 03/10/2019 08:26

It doesn’t matter what’s “ normal” do what makes you happy and comfortable.
But from the look
Of this thread it’s normal anyway!

Ohyesiam · 03/10/2019 08:27

I don’t have pjs, but I have some GORGEOUS cashmere sweat pants from M&S. I’m more attached to them than I am to the childrenGrin.

Tentativesteps133 · 03/10/2019 08:30

I'm a warm sleeper so sleep in knickers/shorts and a vest (or less) so have my 'after work around the house' PJs with sleeves and long legs then my 'sleeping' PJs when I go to bed Grin.

Nothing better than getting out of your day clothes, especially at this time of year.

KUGA · 03/10/2019 08:40

YANBU.

Springfern · 03/10/2019 08:47

YANBU. I've been known to unhook my bra on the bus home

Trooperslaneagain · 03/10/2019 08:49

I'm still in jammies and am contemplating doing an amazon prime now shop to get the weekly shop (It'll be about £60 so free delivery anyway) so I don't have to get out of them.

I was told by a very clever counsellor that getting changed is a big significant event in your day, signalling a change in mind and helping you transition to the next bit of your day.

DO IT!

boringisasboringdoes · 03/10/2019 08:59

Ha I'm now imagining a Miranda-type sketch where she takes her bra off on the bus

boringisasboringdoes · 03/10/2019 09:00

Under her top I should say!

Eastie77 · 03/10/2019 09:14

Jason Donovan certainly wishes he wore PJs. Saw on the the news last night that he rushed out of bed in his London home to put out his neighbour's fire and cameras caught him in just his underpants. He Tweeted later that this is why people should wear pyjamas at nightGrin

Ringdonna · 03/10/2019 09:25

Who wears pyjamas these days?

Sweetpea55 · 03/10/2019 09:28

I change into pj's or lounge pants. We call them ' snuggies'

Gatehouse77 · 03/10/2019 09:29

It wouldn't even cross my mind to change! Never did as a child so I guess it's a conditioning/habit thing.

DH sometimes changes out of his trousers (I have visions of him turning into Murray Goldberg 😱) but it's usually because he's been travelling not an 'normal' office day.

thisnamechanger · 03/10/2019 09:30

As long as they're clean! Have awful memories of my bloody ex who never ever wanted to go out ever though we were child free, 25 and newly moved to London. Every night I'd get home and he already be there in his old dressing gown complete with minging stains in front of his computer.

LakieLady · 03/10/2019 09:32

Does anyone else have thier ‘indoor clothes’ that you wear in the privacy of your home and not out and about. Then your ‘Outdoor clothes’ that you go out in ?

Yes, but I have an intermediate category as well. There are clothes that I would not go further than the garden in, and some clothes that I would consider going to the tip or the corner shop in, but not to the supermarket.

These are known as "gardening clothes" although I also wear them for doing housework, decorating, grooming the dog - anything messy or grubby, really.

raspberryk · 03/10/2019 09:46

I will change into something casual/ lounge wear/leggings or harem style pj's and vest with a jumper depending on what else I've been up to, how comfy my day clothes were etc.
I don't sleep in pajamas though and I don't know how anyone finds clothes of any kind in bed comfortable.
My dp changes into joggers or jogger shorts and hoodie most of the time.

JorisBonson · 03/10/2019 09:50

Within 5 minutes of getting in the door I've got my contacts out, specs on, make up off and PJ's on. It's the best part of the day and I don't even care if that's sad.

Time40 · 03/10/2019 09:55

I think all you bra off and PJs on people must be wearing really uncomfortable day clothes and wrong-sized bras!

Cloudyyy · 03/10/2019 09:56

I don’t like pyjamas but I do have house clothes so I suppose that’s basically the same thing (although I don’t sleep in them and they aren’t embarrassing if the neighbour knocks on the door or something ).

Ratonastick · 03/10/2019 09:56

I have day pyjamas and night pyjamas for exactly this purpose. Daytime ones are acceptable if anyone comes to the door unexpectedly or if I have to put the bins out. They could be mistaken for soft clothes (though not up close). Night pyjamas are soft cuddly things that only my nearest and dearest have ever seen,

FizzyIce · 03/10/2019 09:57

Ringdonna- obviously loads of people if you read the thread ...

JorisBonson · 03/10/2019 09:57

@Ratonastick I have pyjama bottoms that are easily spruced up by a big jumper if someone comes round. You simply must have a system.

Coralfish · 03/10/2019 09:57

I am mumsnetting working from home today and I got up this morning, washed my hair and put a set of clean cosy PJs on. Have to go out at lunchtime, so I will be changing into jeans and then back into the PJs when I get home!

bridgetreilly · 03/10/2019 09:58

Perfectly fine unless you are the sort of person I am, who regularly manages to spill dinner on their top. Trust me, you don't want to go to bed smelling of chilli con carne.

JorisBonson · 03/10/2019 09:59

Sometimes, as a treat, I just go big dressing gown and slippers. No pants, no bra, no mercy.
