Trying to be less identifying as possible but yesterday my child (secondary school) got called a waste of space and oxygen and I’m not quite sure how to feel about it. It seems to have possibly had an effect on my kid

What was the context?

MeggyMeg · 26/09/2019 19:00

Who said it and in what context ? Ofnit was teacher then that's wrong. But another kid? Perhaps depends on what else was said.

PurpleDaisies · 26/09/2019 19:01

By a child or teacher?

Tilltheendoftheline · 26/09/2019 19:01

Is this going to be one of these really vague threads, where no one can give advice?

FactorFifty · 26/09/2019 19:01

Much more context needed, OP!

Yeetyaga · 26/09/2019 19:02

Was said when they was sent out of the room which probably wasn’t unreasonable but as they was talking out , the teacher called them a waste of space and oxygen.

OP posts:
Yeetyaga · 26/09/2019 19:03

Sorry I meant walking out

OP posts:
MeggyMeg · 26/09/2019 19:04

No excuse for that. But equally theres no excuse for your child to be 'talking out' to the teacher.

Tilltheendoftheline · 26/09/2019 19:04

Speak to the school.

Theres every chance this happened. Theres also every chance your child was misbehaving and made this up to deflect blame.

Passthecherrycoke · 26/09/2019 19:05

I’d be livid. Do you believe him? I’d want a meeting with teacher ASAP

MeggyMeg · 26/09/2019 19:06

Walking out during the lesson?

Butchyrestingface · 26/09/2019 19:06

Do you believe your kid?

And what had they done to get sent out of the room?

Nyon · 26/09/2019 19:06

seems to have had an effect on my kid

Wouldn’t it be lovely if the effect was that they learnt to behave? Your child was walking out of a lesson - a well behaved child never does this so there are clearly behavioural issues.

Michaelbaubles · 26/09/2019 19:07

I’ll hedge a bet that a child getting sent out four weeks into term isn’t exactly a massive asset to the class, to be fair.

C0untDucku1a · 26/09/2019 19:07

Thats not acceptable language so first ask about that.

Then you really need to speak to the school about your child’s behaviour and how to deal with it. That comment isnt the result of a student saying one thing once. Thats an extremely frustrated adult totally sick of the situation.

EmeraldShamrock · 26/09/2019 19:08

No the teacher was wrong to say it, even out of earshot.
I would definitely go to the school.
Reassurance your DS sometimes adults say things in anger, he is not a waste of space.
What is going on in the class?

Yeetyaga · 26/09/2019 19:09

Sorry I must’ve explained it wrong , they got asked to leave the room not walked out , it was as they was leaving the room. I don’t think my child would make something up , sometimes they will do the ‘it wasn’t me ect’ but never have they made something up

PuppyMonkey · 26/09/2019 19:10

Grin OP corrected it to walking out.

Waveysnail · 26/09/2019 19:10

Were they mouthing off by any chance? Even teachers can loose their tempers

LagunaBubbles · 26/09/2019 19:10

Your post is very short on the details about what he did wrong?

AloeVeraLynn · 26/09/2019 19:11

Are you not pissed off that they were sent out of a lesson?

ThinkerThunkk · 26/09/2019 19:12

Can we ever have the whole story? they weren't randomly asked to step out side, presumably they misbehaved

Yeetyaga · 26/09/2019 19:12

Ok more details , I don’t know all of it as I’ve not spoke to the teacher but from my child’s point of view , they were whispering across the classroom

OP posts:
Yeetyaga · 26/09/2019 19:13

Obviously I’ve spoken to my child about the behaviour but that’s not what the aibu was about

I know that some teachers aren't great but I find this hard to believe. Speak to the school but I just very much doubt a teacher would say this in front of a class. Maybe in the staff room (but even then probably not).
