Argument in nail bar

Who is being unreasonable here?
Went to nail bar today looking forward to a pamper as I don't treat myself to such things very often. The guy that did my nails was really rough when filing one of my nails, and cut the side of my middle finger drawing blood. I let out a loud 'Ow!' cos it really hurt. Not being a baby, it really did hurt and is still throbbing now as I type this. The manager was just next to me doing someone else's nails and must have heard me but nothing was said. The guy who did my nails said sorry and carried on. My finger was really sore so I approached the manager and pointed out my finger had been cut. She was apologetic and asked me to wash my hands. Then I asked her if she would give me a discount. She gave me a look and said it was an accident and they don't do discounts. I said that's not v good customer service. She said it's only a small cut. She then very begrudgingly asked me how much discount I wanted. I said I thought 20% off was reasonable. She point-blank refused that, but ended up giving me 10% off which amounted to just £2.90 off the total. I left thinking there was very bad feeling all round and I didn't want to go back ever again. It's been preying on my mind all evening. I really don't think I was unreasonable.

It was an accident, the person at fault said sorry, the manager said sorry, agreed to a discount. What more do you want.

Nicknacky · 20/09/2019 21:24

My regular nail technician filed the side of my nail and drew blood a couple of weeks ago. Hurt like a bitch for a couple of days but I didn’t ask for a discount or argues with her, I’ve been going to her for about 6 years and it’s the first time she has done that.

However, she wasn’t rough doing it.

Just vote with your feet.

Charlou19 · 20/09/2019 21:25

Would a discount erase the cut from your finger?

Highlandspring1991 · 20/09/2019 21:25

Agree with PP, it was an accident and he apologised.

GertrudeCB · 20/09/2019 21:26
Hmm
Shoxfordian · 20/09/2019 21:28

It was an accident and they apologised
Also gave you a discount
What more do you want?

summersherewishiwasnt · 20/09/2019 21:28

Yabu to ask for a discount.
It was an accident, why does everyone want compensation for every little mishap?

Lvsel · 20/09/2019 21:30

OP think you over reacted here. They make mistakes.

dollydaydream114 · 20/09/2019 21:30

I think just don't go back there again if you weren't happy with the service.

Even a good nail technician will occasionally hurt someone by accident, just like even a good hairdresser will occasionally nick an earlobe with the scissors. I don't think I'd expect them to deduct more than they did, really.

user1473878824 · 20/09/2019 21:31

So don’t go back? You’re making a mountain out of a molehill.

EmeraldShamrock · 20/09/2019 21:32

It was an accident. I personally wouldn't ask for a discount but agree it hurts badly.

ShirleyPhallus · 20/09/2019 21:33

Agree with literally everyone

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 20/09/2019 21:33

They were rough - i'd take my business elsewhere

MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee · 20/09/2019 21:33

Seriously get over it

Makingawish · 20/09/2019 21:34

@ILikePaperHats a lot of the walk in nail bars are notorious for things like this. They do things super fast so they can get as many people as possible through the doors thus resulting in regularly cutting you because they don't take proper care. A lot also use products which aren't approved in the UK (they buy them from China predominantly) so your nails end up in awful condition. I can feel the pain of that cut just reading your OP!

itchyfinger · 20/09/2019 21:35

You've been injured in an accident that wasn't your fault OP! Call the ambulance chasers for sure.

Flowersonthewall · 20/09/2019 21:35

If it hurt so much then you'd get up and leave! You should have left before he finished your nails and then you wouldn't have paid

Argeles · 20/09/2019 21:37

YANBU.

I think you were absolutely right OP. They should’ve given you at least 50% off, or a really good voucher for next time to try and entice you back.

More to the point, I wonder if I saw this happen to you? I was a passenger in a car this afternoon and we stopped in traffic outside a nail bar, and I was looking in the nail bar, when I witnessed what you described. I said to my DH how ‘that poor lady just yelped in pain. He must have cut her.’ This was a nail bar on the South East London/Kent border. Was that you? It would be such a coincidence if it was you, although I have no idea how many times finger slicing may happen in a day up and down the country.

Zebraaa · 20/09/2019 21:38

Wow 😂

Defeatthedebt · 20/09/2019 21:39

My long time nail tech has on occasion cut my finger when filing and of course it really hurts but it isn't a big deal. She apologises and I say no problem. If you felt that it was due to lack of skill don't go back.

spanglydangly · 20/09/2019 21:40

Compensation culture again! Go to the small claims court, claim for trauma, stress and severe pain? Hmm

Grandadwasthatyou · 20/09/2019 21:40

I stopped going to these nail bars. The staff are often trafficked from Vietnam and are run by gang masters who take away the girls ( and men's) passports. They usually take cash only so evading tax and quite frankly they couldn't care less whether they hurt you, cut you or burn you. I lost count of the number of times I pulled my fingers away in pain as they caught me with the drill.
In fact the one I used to go to was closed down after an Immigration raid.

EdWinchester · 20/09/2019 21:40

Seriously?

You're being very silly.

Nicknacky · 20/09/2019 21:42

Grand But it’s people like you that are putting money in the till and encouraging the trade. Why go to them in the first place, it obvious looking at the salons that they are dodgy.

LoveB · 20/09/2019 21:43

These responses are ridiculous. Yanbu. I'd expect discount
