Argument in nail bar

Who is being unreasonable here?
Went to nail bar today looking forward to a pamper as I don't treat myself to such things very often. The guy that did my nails was really rough when filing one of my nails, and cut the side of my middle finger drawing blood. I let out a loud 'Ow!' cos it really hurt. Not being a baby, it really did hurt and is still throbbing now as I type this. The manager was just next to me doing someone else's nails and must have heard me but nothing was said. The guy who did my nails said sorry and carried on. My finger was really sore so I approached the manager and pointed out my finger had been cut. She was apologetic and asked me to wash my hands. Then I asked her if she would give me a discount. She gave me a look and said it was an accident and they don't do discounts. I said that's not v good customer service. She said it's only a small cut. She then very begrudgingly asked me how much discount I wanted. I said I thought 20% off was reasonable. She point-blank refused that, but ended up giving me 10% off which amounted to just £2.90 off the total. I left thinking there was very bad feeling all round and I didn't want to go back ever again. It's been preying on my mind all evening. I really don't think I was unreasonable.

Everything @chickenyhead has said in this thread. Grin

@Ihopeyourcakeisshit

Glad it isn't just me..

This is why I don't socialize much

OnTheBorderline · 21/09/2019 13:28

I don't think you're being unreasonable. It's not acceptable to be cut while at the hairdressers or at the nail bar. Accidents DO happen but nail technicians are supposed to be very careful in case of infections etc.

In my opinion if that happens they should offer you a hefty discount or you should get your treatment free.

I'm not sure what type of nail bar it was but I would avoid the cheap ones as the staff are more likely to be untrained/trafficked etc and you don't want to be part of that exploitation.

Also make sure you look after the cut because you don't know how hygienic the place is how often they clean their tools etc, and if the guy was careless enough to cut you, he could be doing it all the time 😬

Apolloanddaphne · 21/09/2019 13:34

From time to time my nail technician nips the skin at the side of my nail and makes it bleed. I have never thought to complain about it. It is always accidental and she always says sorry.

ControversialFerret · 21/09/2019 14:12

YABU to go to a walk-in nail bar in the first place. They are one of the most at-risk industries within the UK for human trafficking and modern slavery.

I get my nails done (shellac), but I go to an independent salon which is appointment only and has qualified therapists (certificates on wall) and good hygiene practices (tools are disinfected after each use).

I'm sorry you got a cut finger - you need to keep an eye on it for infection. And in future go to a decent salon and spare a thought for those working in that walk-in nail bar, because I suspect not all of them will be there through choice.

If this now causes you to become a recluse and depressed and alters your life in a dramatic way you could claim against them

😂😂😂 this wins the biggest overreaction award

They accidentally cut her finger they didnt cut it off.

halloumi2019 · 21/09/2019 14:36

I used to get full sets of acrylics (and infills) essentially full time for a years. I wasn’t cut once, that isn’t normal & I wouldn’t be happy if that was me. I have been to salons that use electric nail tools staff were always very gentle and attentive.

I would never ask for a discount though, or demand a certain % off.

Notajogger · 21/09/2019 19:32

As pps have said - these places are well known for being heavily involved with people trafficking. Avoid!!

ariamontgomery · 21/09/2019 20:10

I wouldn’t have asked for a discount or made a fuss personally. I probably wouldn’t even have said a loud ‘ow’ as I’d be reluctant to make the technician feel anxious in front of their manager for an accident. They probably don’t earn much anyway and asking for a discount won’t stop your finger hurting. I feel a bit sorry for the nail technician to be honest.

mathanxiety · 21/09/2019 21:29

ShirleyPhallus if they are not able to give a description of how they sterilise reusable equipment they should not be in business. They are potentially disease vectors. They should be reported.

"I hope the tools were sterile"

Sterile really Hmm
It’s a nail file not neurosurgery.

Wow, the ignorance.
Ever heard of hepatitis?

MadameButterface · 21/09/2019 21:46

Something about seeing women posting wanting cheap fast convenient good quality nails and not giving a fuck about the people sat there working all the hours breathing in toxic chemicals all for tuppence hapenny a day then moaning that they didn’t feel pampered enough makes me really nauseous tbh

Sorry off topic i know but idk if people know how they sound when they say things sometimes

GettingABitDesperateNow · 21/09/2019 21:55

OP wasn't asking for compensation.

She paid for a service, and as the service was sub standard (most people wouldn't expect to be cut in this situation) she didnt think she should have to pay full price. Whether it was an accident or not is irrelevant.

If the kitchen accidentally forgot your order and you were waiting an hour for your starter would you not expect something to be knocked off the bill?

Cherrysherbet · 21/09/2019 21:59

Where there’s blame there’s a claim 🙄 Get a life.

Fishcakey · 21/09/2019 22:08

I have my nails done In a very reputable place and every so often I get a tiny cut. It happens. I say Ow and my nail lady says oops. It happens.

intermittentfasting · 21/09/2019 22:13

Oh ffs! Buy a plaster with your £2.90 and dry your eyes.

intermittentfasting · 21/09/2019 22:15

As pps have said - these places are well known for being heavily involved with people trafficking. Avoid!!

I wonder who trafficked in the Glaswegians that work in the salon I go to in Glasgow.

ILikePaperHats · 22/09/2019 17:14

@Nat6999
No it's in S11 but sounds highly similar to the nail bar you go to!
And to repeat myself to other posters, the charges are NOT cheap!
I won't be going there again, I've always been dubious about how they treat their staff and now it seems they have little care for their customers either, I just went because it's local and convenient.

And I certainly won't be suing, that is just ridiculous!

I want to hear more about Alicia’s hostage situation. It’s a bit more interesting than a cut finger. Sorry, OP.

Aridane · 22/09/2019 17:27

it really isn't OK to get injured while having nails done or for the manager to be so dismissive unapologetic. Discount is secondary

Aridane · 22/09/2019 17:31

Good lord. Who are all these people stoically paying full price to be injured? Don’t get me wrong, I’m British, I’d just quietly never go again, but like fuck I’d be worrying about ruining my relationship with a nail technician who sliced me!

Love this .

Aridane · 22/09/2019 17:36

Bloody hell - where the fuck are you lot going to where you get cut when having your nails done and take it as standard ?!?

Aridane · 22/09/2019 17:38

I’m not compensation culture, however harm arising from a service usually warrants an apology and a free service doesn’t it?

Drawing blood is a bit much.

I agree.

I wouldn't expect to ask for a discount, Imwould expect an apology and an offer of a discount

Aridane · 22/09/2019 17:42

I get my nails done regularly and it’s common to get injured

W.T.A.F

Getting your nails done should not be a high risk activity
