Argument in nail bar

Who is being unreasonable here?
Went to nail bar today looking forward to a pamper as I don't treat myself to such things very often. The guy that did my nails was really rough when filing one of my nails, and cut the side of my middle finger drawing blood. I let out a loud 'Ow!' cos it really hurt. Not being a baby, it really did hurt and is still throbbing now as I type this. The manager was just next to me doing someone else's nails and must have heard me but nothing was said. The guy who did my nails said sorry and carried on. My finger was really sore so I approached the manager and pointed out my finger had been cut. She was apologetic and asked me to wash my hands. Then I asked her if she would give me a discount. She gave me a look and said it was an accident and they don't do discounts. I said that's not v good customer service. She said it's only a small cut. She then very begrudgingly asked me how much discount I wanted. I said I thought 20% off was reasonable. She point-blank refused that, but ended up giving me 10% off which amounted to just £2.90 off the total. I left thinking there was very bad feeling all round and I didn't want to go back ever again. It's been preying on my mind all evening. I really don't think I was unreasonable.

Susan Are you posting in all seriousness?

Interestedwoman · 20/09/2019 22:10

They should have offered you at least a discount without you having to ask.

Louloubelle78 · 20/09/2019 22:12

I am therapist. If I cut a client I would be mortified and be apologising. Like others have said it does happen, it is an accident. My clients don't ask for a discount. However, in your situation I understand why you felt irritated. Walk in nail bars can be rough to get people through quickly and there is very little customer care. They are not that bothered if they lose a client. My clients are really important to me and they enjoy a lovely pamper, nice chat and a nice drink. Not a rough service where you are left staring at the ceiling feeling like you want to be out of there asap. A disappointing treatment is annoying as it isn't cheap and you make the time to do something for you for it to be rubbish.

Yes things like this can escalate and the finger could now get infected and the lady might end up withdrawing into herself altering her usual outgoing persona

Shoeshow · 20/09/2019 22:12

You’ve got balls OP

Nicknacky · 20/09/2019 22:14

Susan She has a cut to her finger. I think she will recover without becoming a recluse.

GrapefruitGin · 20/09/2019 22:14

Wow - calm down

JacquettaW · 20/09/2019 22:21

Another one here hoping that the tools were sterile. It sounds like a place I was frequenting a few years ago, heavy handed and caused a few minor nicks around my nails. With no other risk factors, the salon was the prime candidate for where I contracted Hep C

Duck90 · 20/09/2019 22:25

It can be like a paper cut, and if held swiftly by the therapist the bleeding will stop. One time it happened to me, never felt it and it wasn’t mentioned. 3 shops away my finger was bleeding and I had wiped it across my face. A little word of warning would have helped me avoid an embarrassing situation.

Argeles · 20/09/2019 22:32

@SparklyMagpie

No need to be rude!

I stopped in traffic to witness the nail bar operating normally, and then for a lady to jump in her seat and yelp in pain and see the man doing her nails apologising to her. I didn’t witness the argument about paying, or hear what was going on, but for the time I was sat there, I saw the incident happen and the customer in agony.

Sportsnight · 20/09/2019 22:32

Good lord. Who are all these people stoically paying full price to be injured? Don’t get me wrong, I’m British, I’d just quietly never go again, but like fuck I’d be worrying about ruining my relationship with a nail technician who sliced me!

Shoutouttomyspecs · 20/09/2019 22:32

What more do you want?
A bigger discount.

Terriere · 20/09/2019 22:32

Weird responses here. If you give poor service you should compensate your customer. YANBU op

Cheeserton · 20/09/2019 22:34

Some really silly replies on here. Accident, more like carelessness. They're supposed to do a professional job and you're not paying to be cut! Much the opposite, you're paying for someone with supposedly the right expertise to do it safely and well.

They should offer a reduction without asking. No it won't get rid of the cut but, obviously, it's a gesture that acknowledges their lapse in service properly and helps restore confidence by letting you know that they take it seriously and want to make it right.

Expecting that is neither taking the piss nor anything like ambulance chasing.

AliciaQuays · 20/09/2019 22:37

I was once in a hostage situation in a nail bar. Police n shit

Nicknacky · 20/09/2019 22:38

Alicia But did you get a discount?

Itsallpetetong · 20/09/2019 22:42

If it hurt so much then you'd get up and leave! You should have left before he finished your nails and then you wouldn't have paid

^exactly! Rather than get the rest done and then ask for £5:80 off but then post on MN complaining that they only gave you £2.90 off.

Seriously if I was that unhappy, as you are making out you are, then the price of a cheap bottle of wine off -the 20%- wouldn’t have appeased me. Sounds like they gave you a reasonable amount off at the time given as you had had your full treatment. If you had yelled “Stop-I don’t want to go on” that may have given you a bigger discount.

TotorosNeighbour · 20/09/2019 22:44

1 finger out of 10 I suppose? 10% is quite reasonable then.

mabiee · 20/09/2019 22:48

FFS

AliciaQuays · 20/09/2019 22:49

No. And I called 999. So there we are

M3lon · 20/09/2019 22:49

so getting your nails done costs 30 quid?

My mind is truly boggled.

Nicknacky · 20/09/2019 22:50

Alicia I’m laughing but that sounds terrible!

SusanJohnson · 20/09/2019 22:50

Totoroso what about the blood squirting out all the way home and damaging her clothes and also the embarresment of being covered in blood looking like shes dressed for Halloween

gingersausage · 20/09/2019 22:50

Exactly @Cheeserton. I can’t believe the number of sucks who would just sit there and accept being cut. It’s ridiculous.

I wouldn’t cause a drama, but the one time I got cut by a nail tech, he immediately apologised, got some antiseptic and some stuff to stop it bleeding, made me another cuppa and knocked £5 off the bill. Which is exactly what I would expect. It’s called customer service, especially in a town with several nail places. If he’d done nothing, I’d have told my friends not to go there. As it was, I told them he was good in spite of cutting me 🤷‍♀️.

Nicknacky · 20/09/2019 22:51

M3lon A new set of acrylic for me is £30, infills £15 or £20 if I want shellac.
