I literally can't get up...

IABVVU. I literally can't get up! I woke up at a normal time, got out of bed and felt like someone had been beating me up / smashing me on the head with a hammer. Went back to bed, woke up a few hours later... and I still feel so tired that I can barely move!

I can't be ill because I have no other, ahem, "symptoms" but every time I try to get up I feel dizzy! I'm blatantly just being lazy, DP is being incredibly kind and saying "rest for as long as you need," but he is back off to work tomorrow, so I really need somebody to give me a bit of a kick!

Please tell me to stop being unreasonable and lazy! Grin

Do not feel guilty- your dh will be worried sick! Viral meningitis is very serious! I am glad you are in hospital and being looked after!

FaithInfinity · 10/09/2019 23:01

Blimey Op; I hope it’s not serious but it’s best to be checked out. I had suspected viral meningitis once, not pleasant. I wished I’d sought medical attention sooner because I got worse before I got better. Mine was diagnosed as a ‘virus that presents like meningitis’. It settled on its own with pain relief and fluids (I got dehydrated). If they give you a lumbar puncture - it’s not too pleasant but it’s not too long. I’d advise you have a pillow to cuddle (they’ll lie you on your side to do it). I hope you get some sleep.

granadagirl · 10/09/2019 23:03

Better to be safe than sorry
Just think if you hadn’t have come on mumsnet you may have left it longer thinking you were over tired

Hope everything goes well and your home tomorrow

AtrociousCircumstance · 10/09/2019 23:04

Jesus Christ woman you may have viral meningitis and have to stay in hospital - and you feel guilty?!

Don’t be daft. Get well soon.

Barbel · 10/09/2019 23:08

Ah please don't feel guilty. Believe me they would not keep you in if they didn't think they needed too. Hoping you get a good rest tonight and it's nothing too bad.

MN advice was on point tonight Wink

Funghi · 10/09/2019 23:11

Wow, very fortunate that you’ve been able to get help so quickly and the hospital sound like they’re on top of things.

Hope you manage to get some rest, good luck Flowers

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 10/09/2019 23:21

Goodness! I know it was me that suggested viral meningitis, but I didn't expect to be right! Someone I know had it recently, and they were in hospital for a good few days, but were absolutely fine. I'm glad you're in and getting the right help Thanks

Sunshine93 · 10/09/2019 23:26

As soon as I read your post Iwas actually coming on here to warn you it could be the start of something serious. I know someone who started this way exactly with meningitis. Glad you got seen.

You are ridiculous for feeling guilty. I hope you don't mean that.

Barbel · 10/09/2019 23:26

Well done inspace Star
Thank goodness you did suggest it x

2018SoFarSoGreat · 10/09/2019 23:40

well done, with the power of the MN Hive! I'm so glad to see you are being evaluated and taken care of. That kind of feeling you described is quite typical for me at the onset of quite serious illnesses. When I had pneumonia a few years ago I just felt too tired and lethargic to do anything. Just had to have a lie down. Then could not get up again.

Get well. That's your job now - DH can take care of the rest! Flowers

Hawkmoth · 11/09/2019 00:09

Oh goodness. All good wishes for a swift recovery OP.

TheSandman · 11/09/2019 00:28

Sounds like me three days ago.

Sunday in Bed (I think, I don't really remember) Monday in Bed reading and sleeping and coughing yucky stuff up.

Today Doctor's - Chest infection signed off sick for a week.

sydneyslife · 11/09/2019 00:40

Don't feel guilty, you can't help being ill!! Get well soon OPThanks

ohtheholidays · 11/09/2019 01:30

I hope it's not anything serious OP and that you feel alot better soon Flowers

Rachelover60 · 11/09/2019 02:26

You poor thing. It certainly sounds like a vestibular problem, Meniere's or Labyrinthitis.

On the other hand it might be nothing much and will just go away.

Whichever, I hope you feel better soon In the meantime, do not add salt to your meals.

managedmis · 11/09/2019 02:38

Oh wow op, read your post this morning and thought you were just knackered or something...

Hope you feel better soon Flowers

NotMyRealName11 · 11/09/2019 05:13

Sorry for the slow reply - I've got a super bad headache and screens are difficult!

Indeed thank you very very very much to Mumsnet (especially Inspace!) for the very sound advice. I can't say how grateful I am!

Bloods came back and I had lumbar puncture done (it was NOT pleasant) and confirmed viral meningitis diagnosis. I'm a bit out of it tbh so sorry if this post isn't making much sense!

Not sure how long that I will be in for, but the ward has a no children rule so won't be able to see my DD - so I hope not for too long. Feel like bit of a failure of a mum! But trying not to feel guilty.

Thx again for all good wishes and very very good advice Star

Oh bless you! My husband had viral meningitis years ago and was off work for four weeks, first time he'd ever been sick. It does pass though, keep your fluid levels up, don't stare at the telly too long and rest.

1FineDane · 11/09/2019 06:00

Gosh, I wouldn't have guessed at that!

FiveShelties · 11/09/2019 06:04

Wow, what a shock for you, you must not feel guilty. Look after yourself.Flowers

Purpleartichoke · 11/09/2019 06:05

You are Ill. Stop feeling guilty and rest. When you are discharged, to straight to bed and rest some more.

blackcat86 · 11/09/2019 06:05

Oh my goodness. Take care of yourself and focus on getting better. That's all that matters. There will plenty of time to cuddle your DD once your out.

historysock · 11/09/2019 06:22

Oh my gosh x wish you better soon then OP-Thanks goodness you went and got looked at!
