Monarchy Abolished?

malibuloving · 19/08/2019 17:52

Other threads have inspired me Grin

Do you think we’ll ever live to see the Royals gone or perhaps our children will?

I can see public support for it to be abolished once the Queens gone. I feel like they’ve had too many chances at this point. The cover up of Andrews vile friendship with the sexual predator Epstein and the awful things Andrew probably did plus the pictures with teenagers has been an outrage. I also really like Harry and Meghan but their hypocrisy is quite embarrassing how they’re banging on about climate change and then jetting off across the globe on private jets. And more and more for all royals.

AIBU to think their time is up soon

I think it will happen in the next 50 years. I think society has had enough of inequality and privilege

Gobbolinocat · 19/08/2019 18:05

In current day and age I just don't see how Andrew can wriggle out of this one and its diabolical.

Morally dirty and reprehensible.

heath48 · 19/08/2019 18:06

When the Queen goes I think it is highly likely.

malibuloving · 19/08/2019 18:08

@Gobbolinocat I think Andrew will also have much less ‘protection’ when his mum, The Queen dies.

MyBeloved · 19/08/2019 18:08

I hope so. I used to be quite pro royal, but everything you outlined in your OP has turned me off

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 19/08/2019 18:10

I agree, I think once the queen is gone people will be far more inclined to see them all just become private citizens.

Cheeseoncrumpets · 19/08/2019 18:11

I think when the Queen goes real questions will be asked about the monarchy's future. Certainly Australia and maybe even Canada and New Zealand will become republics.

7Worfs · 19/08/2019 18:12

I don’t want it abolished, but trimmed down - there are too many cousins, nieces, nephews etc
The primogeniture family are the custodians, the rest shouldn’t enjoy the same privileges. I’m hoping William will put his foot down and reform

Gobbolinocat · 19/08/2019 18:13

Is Charles Close to Andrew?

notupsettingpeople · 19/08/2019 18:13

I think it is unlikely in the near future, but I suspect they may be forced to modernise and live more more normal lives in the future, hopefully with the civil list culled drastically.

malibuloving · 19/08/2019 18:14

@MyBeloved I’m a bit of a history geek so I like the royals in the sense that they’re sort of a snapshot of the past.

I do think it’s time for them to go but I would like it to be done dignifiedly, not in a horrible revolution style. I think we can appreciate the past and still move forwards into a more equal future? I hope so anyway

Apart from being public figure it was Andrews role as envoy to represent us that's stung.
Bad enough in light of being a royal which one could argue isn't his fault etc however it's accepting and taking on a role as trade envoy. He seems to have forged only one relationship with a child sex trader???!

malibuloving · 19/08/2019 18:16

If the Royals stay, I think they all need to fuck off and become private citizens apart from the direct line to the throne. So Charles, PW and his children and then once PW becomes king, Charlotte and Louis will need to separate and keep it trimmed down to just George’s line etc

M0RVEN · 19/08/2019 18:16

Fingers crossed they will go soon.

Userwhatevernumber · 19/08/2019 18:18

No one will dare push the Queen off her throne, so the monarchy is very safe with her....I’m not sure Charles will be able to hold it for too long though

I reckon once the Queen dies there will be (yet another) referendum about whether the monarchy will stay or go. Not sure if I would like a republic though. What would we be called? The republic of Britain and Northern Ireland?

Chloemol · 19/08/2019 18:19

Hmm imagine what we get instead, President Corbyn, Blair? Johnson?

JenniR29 · 19/08/2019 18:19

I’d love to see the monarchy abolished in my lifetime but sadly they have a very effective PR machine that keeps them in power and convinces the people that we ‘need’ them.

Alsohuman · 19/08/2019 18:20

While 70% of the population want a monarchy, it’s not going anywhere any time soon.

PicsInRed · 19/08/2019 18:20

Put a fork in Andrew, he's done. That level of "proximity" to paedophilia is really a step too far.

At this juncture, he needs to be retired and removed from the civil list. The Outer Hebrides is nice all times this time of the year...

On a totally unrelated note 🤔 it is very strongly rumoured (it was in diplomatic papers iirc) that Old Mountbatten was interested in little boys. The Times had something about that today.

And we know the Royals were close to Saville.

I think I've reached my own tipping point.

malibuloving · 19/08/2019 18:20

Or we could have a monarch in name only?

OP posts:
malibuloving · 19/08/2019 18:22

@Alsohuman I think public opinion has changed. It’s probably more like half and half now! Very similar to Brexit really GrinSad

Wouldn’t be surprised if he suffers the same fate as his pal Epstein some time soon. Of course they’d make it look like an accident!

PicsInRed · 19/08/2019 18:24

Is Charles Close to Andrew?

I've repeatedly read the same rumour, that they may be half brothers.

Cinammoncake · 19/08/2019 18:25

It'll get scaled down, more like the Spanish monarchy perhaps?
