Monarchy Abolished?

Other threads have inspired me Grin

Do you think we’ll ever live to see the Royals gone or perhaps our children will?

I can see public support for it to be abolished once the Queens gone. I feel like they’ve had too many chances at this point. The cover up of Andrews vile friendship with the sexual predator Epstein and the awful things Andrew probably did plus the pictures with teenagers has been an outrage. I also really like Harry and Meghan but their hypocrisy is quite embarrassing how they’re banging on about climate change and then jetting off across the globe on private jets. And more and more for all royals.

AIBU to think their time is up soon

The Independent - Direct funding to meet the monarchy’s official expenditure is now through something called the “Sovereign Grant. In 2016-17 the Sovereign Grant was £42.8m, rising to £76m in 2017-18, with the increase earmarked for refurbishing Buckingham Palace

Royalists often point out that these costs represent only around £1 a year to every person in the UK. However, this does not include the security costs of looking after the family. One republican pressure group has estimated that these add up to £100m a year and helps push the actual annual public cost of the monarchy closer to £350m

Solonelywastheballard · 19/08/2019 21:27

I think it's time we ended the rein of the evil shape shifting space lizards.

I vote let's pull of their human masks and see what they really look like.

scaryteacher · 19/08/2019 21:29

I can well believe that Prince Andrew is not that bright or too fussy about whom he associates with, but I find it hard to believe that he had sex with her when his daughters were youngsters themselves.

The allegations against him were thrown out by a US court when they first arose iirc.

Swellerellamoo · 19/08/2019 21:32

The Andrew epstein affair has really done it for me.

And Williams affair.

Get rid of all of them, times up.

ForalltheSaints · 19/08/2019 21:33

I think that after the Queen dies there will be more support for a republic. Though not enough to end the monarchy.

Regardless of the behaviour of Andrew or others who will never be monarch.

Gorrisandhorace · 19/08/2019 21:35

Yep totally!
Gosh the rest of us face jail for not paying the tv license fee. It’s like a big terrible joke.
Even the Americans are starting to question our Royal family now!

whattodowith · 19/08/2019 21:36

It won’t go anywhere until the baby boomers feck off. I don’t think many millennials are keen on them.

AlexandPea · 19/08/2019 21:39

I want to have a royal family. I love the pageantry, history and unstinting support for good causes. I think the Queen has been a tremendous force for good and a unifying figure.

Long live the Queen!

Gorrisandhorace · 19/08/2019 21:43

Unsurprisingly about the millennials because most of them still can’t afford to buy a house despite working full time, yet bombarded with pics of Harry on his private jet with all his houses.
Watching tragedies like Grenfell, whilst hearing about wildly excessive renovations to The Palace.
It’s all too much.

PicsInRed · 19/08/2019 21:46

I want to have a royal family.

We'll give them to you then.

They move in Sunday.

lavenderandthyme · 19/08/2019 21:47

I have always liked the RF, but recently have completely changed my mind. HM is an institution, and deserves respect, but once she dies, all respect will be gone, I suspect. It simply isn't right that all the Royals live off the tax payers and we are supposed to doff our caps and put up with their outrageous entitlement and over spending. I think we should have a referendum and get rid of the lot of the them. Their Palaces can be turned into National Trust properties, and they can all get proper jobs.

Sarahlou63 · 19/08/2019 21:47

I'm a royalist but completely agree the RF needs to be massively slimmed down and modernised. Charles/Camilla, William and Kate, George and Charlotte should be the only ones funded once the Queen dies. Anne is an asset (and a bloody hard working one and, I suspect, would be very good for supporting Charles) but the rest are all independently wealthy thanks to Di, the Queen Mum and of course from the Queen's will so they should be allowed to retire. The Netherlands and Spain lead the way with functioning royals.

Gobbolinocat · 19/08/2019 21:50

Scary, sex or no I was defensive and hanging out with convict, surrounded by bloody young girls.
His girls at home safe, what the bleddy hell did anyone think the young girls around eptistn were there for

Gorrisandhorace · 19/08/2019 21:51

I agree with @lavenderandthyme

Solihooley · 19/08/2019 21:56

The Andrew epstein affair has really done it for me.

Me too. I’ve always respected the queen but I think the rest of them are complete fuckwits.

StoneofDestiny · 19/08/2019 21:56

You can get pageantry at the Edinburgh Tattoo, history will still be there - good and bad, and there are many people devoting their lives to good causes without getting free designer clothes, palaces, nannies, security and tax payers money for their REAL charity work (not just ribbon cutting stuff)

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 19/08/2019 21:56

Didn't your DH work for Jesus? 😂 Doesn't really fill me with confidence in you😂
Er, work for Jesus? No, no. Not for. No. Disappointed I’ve had no alternative monarchy votes though, so #voteforqueenjudas (jic) will step down, in a dignified way. Sad

BelleHathor · 19/08/2019 21:59

Interesting blind from CDAN a gossip site that had the allegations about Weinstein and Spacey years ago: www.crazydaysandnights.net/2019/07/blind-items-revealed-34.html?m=1

I know they thought they got away with it. When they threw that long time A list celebrity in his country under the bus after his death with planned leaks and a parade of victims, they raised a toast with a bottle of wine that cost $25K while they watched child porn they had filmed and collected. Most of it they had filmed. One is a foreign born permanent A list musician who has briefly touched the third rail of child porn but got away with his lame excuse because of his fame.

The other, a foreign born permanent A list socialite type who has been in this space before because of his banishment from multiple countries for similar offenses. Not so much child porn. Authorities and law enforcement wouldn't cal it that because of the international incident it would create. It is what it is of course. Tweens and teens being forced into sex acts with the men while they were filmed. The men obscured either with mask or not shown at all. Their voices altered. Our socialite type would buy the tweens and teens while the dead celebrity and the musician used their fame to attract underage groupies who then would be put through ten minutes to ten hours of sex and filming in as many situations as possible, all the while being filmed. Usually with the celebrities, it was unknown filming. With our socialite type, the victims all knew they were being filmed and what would happen if they protested.

Now, with some recent court filings, some of the socialite type's actions are coming to light and he will make sure to take down as many as possible if needed. He knows because of his stature he is safe. This would not be true for any of the others."

The related application to prevent the release of the Guiffre documents back in March this year. Who were the John Does who didn't want them released 🤔

Solihooley · 19/08/2019 22:04

I’ve also noticed that the Andrew statement doesn’t actually say that the suggestion he would condone or participate in the exploitation of human beings is false, just abhorrent. It reminds me of that time David Beckham didn’t deny having an affair.

StoneofDestiny · 19/08/2019 22:14

The only thing that puzzles me is why Prince Andrew has been the deciding factor for recent abolitionists. Even in recent history the behaviour of the Queen Mother (showing contempt for the public purse by leaving huge debts on her death), Margaret - a layabout drunk, Philip - an overt racist and national embarrassment, Edward - a petulant shirker, Sophie and Fergie trading financially on their royal connections and ‘airmiles’ Andrew causing embarrassment internationally. And now we have the news of his friendship with paedophiles. (Wasn’t that what Mountbatten was known for too?)
Andrews behaviour is really no surprise.

Cryalot2 · 19/08/2019 22:17

I used to be a fan but Harry and his wife have just finished it.

AlexandPea · 19/08/2019 22:20

You can get pageantry at the Edinburgh Tattoo, history will still be there - good and bad

No, that would be a hollow echo of history - a pastiche - with the living heart ripped out of it.

WeshMaGueule · 19/08/2019 22:25

Would you prefer President BoJo?

Stupid argument. We could end up with the equivalent of King BoJo or King Donald Trump on the throne for sixty years.

StoneofDestiny · 19/08/2019 22:28

The future king when married to Diana,

Charles: "Oh god. I'll just live inside your trousers or something. It would be much easier!"

Camilla: (Laughs.) "What are you going to turn into, a pair of knickers?" (Both laugh). "Oh, you're going to come back as a pair of knickers."

Charles: "Or, God forbid, a Tampax. Just my luck!" (Laughs.)

Camilla: "You are a complete idiot!" (Laughs.) "Oh, what a wonderful idea"
