To wear knickers to bed?

I always feel exposed if I don’t, but dh says that I’m insulating myself from the world and also that it’s more hygienic. Thoughts? I assumed most people wear knickers to bed...

No knickers here! Give the area a break overnight - much more comfortable!

InfiniteSheldon · 19/08/2019 06:00

Well this has been an incredibly interesting thread I have little or no discharge at all. I'm continually shocked by the different levels of discomfort that we are subjected to by our female bodies; to all of you who suffer high levels of discharge Flowers

I couldn't sleep without knickers on!! Although I never wear pyjama bottoms to bed either. T shirt and knickers for me!

And to the PP who sleeps in a BRA?! What??!!

Dandelion1993 · 19/08/2019 06:34

I've always been told you shouldn't wear Knickers in bed as it makes it all sweaty and manky down there.

Can't you just wear oj trousers?

TheSultanofPingu · 19/08/2019 08:20

It isn't nice to suggest that someone might be manky down below because they wear pants in bed.

Lumene · 19/08/2019 08:23

I wear them more often than not and have never had thrush.

AlphaJura · 19/08/2019 08:45

I wear a bra to bed. I heard years ago that they'll end up saggy if you don't. It probably wouldn't need to if I was small chested but I'm not and they don't feel supported if I don't. As long as it's a bra that fits properly it's comfortable.

People always use anecdotes like this as if it disproves a theory.

you, as an individual, may not get thrush. But generally, at a population level, more people will.

So if 100 people wear pants to bed, a higher percentage will have an issue than out of 100 people who don’t wear pants.

I own so many pjs but wear none of them to bed. I normally wear knickers and a vest top but sometimes I feel like sleeping naked, usually if I've had a bath just before bed. Makes me want to change the bedsheets more often though, I don't think it's really hygienic

Gooseygoosey12345 · 19/08/2019 10:33

Oh I've also never had thrush so it doesn't seem to be a problem on the airing out side of things

Zaphodsotherhead · 19/08/2019 11:00

No knickers, but pyjamas (I always shower before bed though). Used to be naked, but kids getting me up and out of bed at all hours for year upon year wore that out of me, and my house is FREEZING even on warm days, so I need a few layers.

Can't answer why i don't wear clean pj bottoms every day though, when I do change my knickers. I may be using a form of dissonance...

StarlightLady · 20/08/2019 06:20

I wonder if there is any collaboration between those who wear knickers in bed and those who wear knickers with tights?

U2HasTheEdge · 20/08/2019 06:54

I hate wearing knickers in bed.

It is the one of the best things about my period ending.. I can sleep fully nude again.

Rainatnight · 20/08/2019 06:58

Starlightlady Who doesn’t wear knickers with tights?!

StarlightLady · 20/08/2019 07:49

@Rainatnight - l don’t want to hijack this thread by taking it in a different direction, so I will be brief.

I think the answer is quite a lot of us. I agree that with the cheaper all nylon brands it’s more or less essential. But with the better quality brands of tights (which incidently cost mmore but last longer) and have a good cotton gusset, there is no need. The cotton gusset is there for a reason and the body really does not benefit from another layer underneath. Look at the pictures on the packets.

JustDanceAddict · 20/08/2019 07:52

I only ever wear knickers and nothing else unless it’s freezing.

HeronLanyon · 20/08/2019 08:36

Re tights - the cotton gusset area in tights tends to be tiny. I’ve never ever considered that to be meant to be in place of knickers. I’m also thinking of the seams often running front to back and that thought is an uncomfortable one without knickers. I like the idea of tights without knickers. May try it but can’t imagine it would be comfortable.

Propertyofhood · 20/08/2019 08:56

I wear knickers in bed. If we have sex then I will take them off and not bother putting any back on, and it does feel weird. The good thing is that we are using condoms at the moment so at least I don't have the uncomfiness of the jizz seeping out whilst I'm trying to sleep!

DH never wears underwear in bed - he wears those loose boxers and reckons everything gets 'tangled up' if he wears boxers. The thing I hate is that he goes for a wee right before bed and then gets straight into bed with his willy touching the duvet, so even if he shakes it off at the loo, any extra wee drops from his willy will go on the duvet, yuk! I always tell him he should wipe it but he thinks thats 'not a thing' (probably a whole other thread!)

That was a lot of information in that post.... Grin

StarlightLady · 20/08/2019 10:31

@HeronLanyon - Heist, Autograph and other brands offer comfy totally seamless tights with a cotton gusset which is not covered by the nylon. They cost more but last longer.

Healthier too. They also stop up better without knix underneath, in the battle against gravity. IF lsaac Newton was a woman, she would never have picked an apple as an example.

HeronLanyon · 20/08/2019 11:52

Grin thanks for info and best of all for the laugh !

Wixi · 20/08/2019 12:08

When I was younger, before I had my daughter I rarely wore anything to bed. Now I'm older, and looking after a child during the night I wear pj's and always wear pants underneath - it feels weird/uncomfortable without. Also, allows me to wear the pjs a second night.
