It's Tuesday night. Brexit and other awful stuff dominates the news. Cheer me up please and tell me what you have bought from the aisle of randomness.

I went in today for Bread and Milk. And came out with a glue gun and a pair of swimming goggles (Damn you, DD)

I'm of a certain age. I remember the Victoria Wood sketch where she said if you can't get me a raspberry yoghurt, get me something else. So her friend got her a meat and potato pie...

I went in once for some milk and left with a house plant and gin&tonic ice lollies.

whattodowith · 14/08/2019 11:14

Should have added, I forgot the milk!

TrickyD · 14/08/2019 11:15

Sorry glueandstick didn't notice you had already mentioned tie-dye kits.

TheBigBallOfOil · 14/08/2019 11:19

QueenMab that’s made me cry. It’s made me think of the little things about dh id miss if he were gone. So Sorry for your loss.

This thread has changed my life forever.

I never realised the 'aisle' was a thing. I never realised how I fell victim to it, until I read this thread. I never thought me picking up three tins of chalk paint and two rugs when I'd gone for a food shop last week, was anything out of the ordinary.

I'd just sort of stroll innocently down that aisle, nonchalent, oblivious ... and if something caught my eye ... but now I realise that is how it works. That is how it gets you!

Now I'm hearing about glue guns and tie dye kits (both of which I want and will be searching high and low for when I go shopping later today) and all sorts.

I will never stroll nonchalantly, innocently, obliviously ... down that aisle ever again, but will be like a vulture on high alert, eyes darting everywhere, scanning the piles of crap stuff, looking for my prey.

HemlockStarglimmer · 14/08/2019 12:39

Went into Aldi for a snack (to assuage guilt as we'd used their car park) came out with a house plant, ice cube trays, a bag of sugar and a pineapple.

madcatladyforever · 14/08/2019 12:42

I bloody hate Aldi, I went in there for some milk and bought a shower curtain and a drying rack for washing, didn't need either. I'm not going in there again.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 14/08/2019 12:43

Went in yesterday for some bread. Came out with a massive jar of sun-dried tomatoes and a Britta water filter jug.

PiedNMash · 14/08/2019 12:48

I went in to replenish my toilet roll, baby toilet wet ones, kitchen roll and caramel wafer supply.

I came out with 2 x Oven Pride (half price of usual) and 2 x Dr. Beckham washing machine cleaner.

Roast potato scraper Hmm

galvantula · 14/08/2019 13:11

I forgot to mention that I have approximately 5 packs of fat quarters of fabric ( Disney/ Harry potter/funky patterns) purchased from the aisle of randomness in the last year.

I do not own a sewing machine or have very good hand sewing skills. But they are very pretty. Blush

Zakana · 14/08/2019 13:31

Last time I went to Lidl for a bottle of voddie, came back with a small tub of 100 magnetic letters that my DS 20 and DD 17 use to leave obnoxious and increasingly rude messages for each other every time one or the other goes into the kitchen, hours of fun for the kids, they’ve told me to get another box as they are both being held back by the lack of extra vowels and capital letters!

happycamper11 · 14/08/2019 13:37

Ah we love our middle aisle glue gun,
Got glitter glue tubes and everything. (Never found a use for the glitter ones yet though)

glueandstick · 14/08/2019 13:38

@TrickyD I too hate tie dye but have become OBSESSED

ThePhoenixRises · 14/08/2019 13:57

I have not been to one in over 10 years, I have one about 20 mins away from where I now live so hopefully can go later tonight.

So far on my list I need

Glue gun
Glitter glue for gun
Tie Dye kits

Anything else i should add to list?

ColaFreezePop · 14/08/2019 14:20

@ThePhonenixRises you cannot plan your purchases from the middle aisle of shite. Somethings are delibrately out of stock and other things are only dumped in your local store.

I'm just picking up a prescription. Aldi is imppssibly close by. It would be rude not to pop in right? I feel an all consuming urge to go and see if there are any the dye kits left. I saw them. I resisted them. Then I started this sodding thread and now feel I'm missing out.
I am literally sitting on my hands.
Yet we all know I'm going to do it.
And that, like a PP I will find that they are now out of stock so will likely buy another item of randomness.
I shall report back!

Meckity1 · 14/08/2019 14:41

Just popping in to say that today I went into Aldi and came out with only the stuff I went in for which was some extremely inexpensive cola.

Unfortunately I then went to Tesco and ended up getting hit by the impulse buy stick so the inexpensive own brand cereal ended up costing £26.14 lol

HariboLectar · 14/08/2019 15:03

I feel a trip to Aldi is needed tomorrow Grin

Bottledate · 14/08/2019 17:49

@Bottledate you can make designs on things with hot glue?

@GummyGoddess I don't know what or how, but that is all the justification I need.

ConorMcGregorsChin · 14/08/2019 18:43

Well I didn't end up being able to get to Aldi and now I'm having positive palpitations about the fact I may have missed out on Tie Dye!

Am also half expecting Glitter Glue Guns to feature on this week's Mumsnet swears by. Even though none of us have actually used them yet. Or indeed know what to use them for!

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 14/08/2019 18:49

I went to lidl and got a sun shade (tent-like thing).

I also went to aldi to buy ingredients for a picnic for two and somehow spent £40 Blush
