To think DH's work food stash is weird and slightly annoying?

So I do all the food shopping (we have 2DC) I make the dinner and pack the lunches. DH makes his own sandwiches for work and will take fruit but he actually buys masses of cereal bars, chocolate bars and his favourite crisps and keeps them at work in his desk drawers. I find it quite irritating that he has his own food stash when I do a good job at shopping and keeping everyone fed and would be more than happy to buy anything he put on the list. He says it's because it's easier than getting it out if the cupboard every morning, but he makes a sandwich and gets himself several pieces of fruit every day?

I’m struggling to see a problem here, TBH. Loads of people at work like to have snacks to hand, he’s buying them himself so not adding anything to your workload, and he’s buying in bulk so managing costs.

What’s to be irritated by?

Confused

If they were at home would the kids eat them?

Why are you so desperate to be the one buying the food?

Can you afford the food he buys?

Wildorchidz · 08/08/2019 08:37

Your husband is an adult. He can decide what he buys and when even if it is unhealthy crap. Unless you are now going to add that he is morbidly obese and is on a strict diet.

PlaymobilPirate · 08/08/2019 08:37

As long as you can afford it I don't see the problem in buying stuff he fancies outside of list making time?

Do you stick rigidly to the list or sometimes buy of list if something you fancy catches your eye?

Reindeerssmellbetter · 08/08/2019 08:37

I think you're being a bit controling, does it really matter to you what he wants in work?

Alarae · 08/08/2019 08:37

I have work stashes, as do quite a lot of people I know. Just means you don't have to bother packing that extra thing.

lastqueenofscotland · 08/08/2019 08:37

I literally could not get annoyed at this in the slightest.

Reindeerssmellbetter · 08/08/2019 08:38

What he eats in work

Solina · 08/08/2019 08:38

It is quite normal tbh. Most of my colleagues have got a small stash of snack foods in their drawer.

DonPablo · 08/08/2019 08:38

Every single person I know who has a desk drawer has a food stash in it. Totes normal.

CalmdownJanet · 08/08/2019 08:38

Yep I don't see an issue here either, what is weird is it's like you are taking it personally though, like it's some kind of slight on your shopping/housekeeping skills

Ellabella989 · 08/08/2019 08:39

My DP does this. I pay for all the food shopping (he pays for other things) and I’ve said I’m more than happy to get all of his work snacks but he likes going to Tesco and choosing them himself depending on what he fancies each week. He also doesn’t want me having to spend the extra money. Doesn’t bother me at all

BlueSkiesLies · 08/08/2019 08:39

Wow. This is super controlling and weird.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 08/08/2019 08:39

You’re overthinking this. It’s probably weirder that it bothers you.

MyOtherProfile · 08/08/2019 08:39

Can't see why this is a problem. Why shouldn't he buy his own work snacks?

When your children are a bit older are you going to complain if they buy their own snacks too sometimes? Probably a good time to think about loosening up a bit.

TheVanguardSix · 08/08/2019 08:39

Why don't you ask him if he'd like you to add his favourites to the weekly shop?

Beesandcheese · 08/08/2019 08:40

He's managing something the way that suits him (and sensibly). YABU, particularly for starting with so.

IAskTooManyQuestions · 08/08/2019 08:40

Doesn’t everyone have a food stash in their bottom drawer? what happens if the apocalypse comes ?

allthegins · 08/08/2019 08:40

It’s normal. I have a work stash

gamerwidow · 08/08/2019 08:40

Seriously there’s not enough time in the world to be bothered by this.
Man buys food and eats it. Not an issue unless you’re on a strict budget or he is on a special diet.

OhMyDarling · 08/08/2019 08:40

I have a locker full of snacks- mainly popcorn and sensations crisps. At home they would be eaten by the kids and if I carried them in each day they would get crumbled up.
I go to a Tesco metro once every few wks when I need to top up my stash.
It’s my me time- yep, I’m that sad!

user1493413286 · 08/08/2019 08:40

I do this; it’s to stop anyone else eating my work food and it’s easier to keep it at work than remember to bring it every day.
I’m not sure why it bothers you really.

Applejack5 · 08/08/2019 08:40

I can't see a problem here either, it really wouldn't bother me.

Ellieboolou27 · 08/08/2019 08:40

@FeatherySquawkington what is irritating about it? I have cereal bars and nuts in my desk drawer, I find it quite strange your irritated by it.

Best kept at work than around the house

Beesandcheese · 08/08/2019 08:41

"Have I shown you my drawer of inappropriate carbohydrates?"
