To think DH's work food stash is weird and slightly annoying?

So I do all the food shopping (we have 2DC) I make the dinner and pack the lunches. DH makes his own sandwiches for work and will take fruit but he actually buys masses of cereal bars, chocolate bars and his favourite crisps and keeps them at work in his desk drawers. I find it quite irritating that he has his own food stash when I do a good job at shopping and keeping everyone fed and would be more than happy to buy anything he put on the list. He says it's because it's easier than getting it out if the cupboard every morning, but he makes a sandwich and gets himself several pieces of fruit every day?

I miss my work stash now that I'm a SAHM🤣 I have recently started up a home 'work's stash!! I have a pkt of biccies and some sweets nobody will ever find!!! OP it doesn't sound like you'll ever let, let alone ask him to do the shopping. But honestly do it!!!!

bluebluezoo · 09/08/2019 18:53

I have a work stash. Mainly because:

-If I buy crisps and nice things at home, I will buy enough to last us all two weeks. I'll go to the cupboard on day three to get something for lunch and it will all be gone. Therefore I will siphon off enough for myself for the week, then if the rest gets eaten I don't need to buy more until the next shop.

-I quite often forget lunch so a pot noodle and some cereal bars in my locker are always needed.

MerryDeath · 09/08/2019 19:00

totally normal

littlemoot · 09/08/2019 19:15

Wish I was organised enough to have a food stash at work. Always need something at 4.00pm

JacquettaW · 09/08/2019 19:20

Bit weird on your part OP. I have a stash of emergency food at work in case I forget my lunch or I'm starving, no one wants a hangry Jac on their hands. Besides, me emergency food has saved my boss on several occasions!

cyclingmad · 09/08/2019 19:23

He is an adult fgs not a child. God forbid he buys some food by himself and gasp wants to actually think for himself and choose what he wants, when he wants.

tryingtobebetterallthetime · 09/08/2019 19:27

When I worked full time away from home I had a plastic bin I kept full of various things like soup and granola bars. I also had cans of tuna for a quick healthy lunch. Heck, for awhile I even had a tiny fridge someone who left gave me. I kept things like baby bell cheese in there, and also salad dressing for my tuna salad lunches. I usually did my shopping for the "stash" at lunchtime or on the way to work.

I liked having it because it meant on days I left early or had a difficult morning with my colitis, I didn't have to fuss with making my lunch. My office was not close to any cafes. It was a good 20 minute walk to anywhere you could buy food.

savingmysanity · 09/08/2019 19:30

I keep 3 emergency snickers in my laptop bag.....my desk drawer stash is like a tesco express, you'd hate me

Italiangreyhound · 09/08/2019 19:45

I have instant soups in my work drawer, each to their own.

BestZebbie · 09/08/2019 19:57

Are you jealous that you stick to a self imposed healthy eating regime then he adds loads of snacks just for himself? Because you could just get yourself some snacks whilst shopping too, if so.

BoronationStreet · 09/08/2019 20:07

Jesus wept. I feel sorry for your poor DH. You sound controlling as fuck OP.

You need to give your head a wobble and get off his back.

CrispSandwiches19 · 09/08/2019 20:09

My mum's bf does this. It's simply because he passes the shop on the way. It's bulky stuff.. Multipacks etc
Because they don't drive he said what's the point in going shopping lugging it home for him to lug back past the shop to work..

Catsinthecupboard · 09/08/2019 20:10

I give both dc who work and dh food for a stash at work.

Beautiful3 · 09/08/2019 20:22

I used to do the same. It's a real time saver. Great idea.

fatimashortbread · 09/08/2019 20:35

Thanks for reminding me that I left a bag of salad in the fridge at work! Your DH is not strange!

Makemeaname · 09/08/2019 20:55

I don't have anywhere to keep food at work but always have a packet of crisps, a cereal bar and some chocolate in the bottom of my bag. If I get peckish in the afternoon, better to have something available than to have to pay a quid for a biscuit from the vending machine.

bellinisurge · 09/08/2019 21:03

None. Of. Your. Business.

Zoejj77 · 09/08/2019 21:20

The only thing that would bother me about this is why didn’t he do that whole family shop and save me another job to do

Mylittlepea · 09/08/2019 23:04

Such an enlightening thread. I do not have a food stash at work.

This is because I would eat the whole lot in a day, couldn’t help myself. Not sure what that says about me Grin

han01uk · 09/08/2019 23:08

My husband is exactly the same...but he keeps his stash in the boot of his car. I try and buy relatively healthy, then see all kinds of hidden crisps, noodle things, bars, pastries etc in the boot of the car!!

Coffeeandcherrypie · 09/08/2019 23:17

RTFT people, OP took on board she was BU are work snacks but realised that she wants to DH to do more of the weekly shop.

Stop calling her weird now! It was clearly the burden then weekly shop that was the problem here.

Aprillygirl · 09/08/2019 23:40

Unless you are worried that his snack eating is impacting badly on his health or the purse strings then it really has fuck all to do with you. Stop trying to control him, he is not a child Confused

WorriedMamabear2000 · 10/08/2019 00:09

I read this thinking, right what twatish thing is this DH doing, so I was with you OP, but then when I finished reading I actually said aloud "why do you even care". Just seems like a non issue. I'm confused as to why this is an issue for you. I don't mean that in a mean way at all, please know that, I'm just genuinely not getting it.

glennamy · 10/08/2019 00:48

Give the bloke a break... Lots of people where I work have snacks of some sort and being honest, If this is all you have to worry about in life then I would say you have a happy one! :)

PushingThru · 10/08/2019 01:54

Jesus fucking Christ - who the fuck even knows the contents of their spouse's desk drawer?
