To think DH's work food stash is weird and slightly annoying?

So I do all the food shopping (we have 2DC) I make the dinner and pack the lunches. DH makes his own sandwiches for work and will take fruit but he actually buys masses of cereal bars, chocolate bars and his favourite crisps and keeps them at work in his desk drawers. I find it quite irritating that he has his own food stash when I do a good job at shopping and keeping everyone fed and would be more than happy to buy anything he put on the list. He says it's because it's easier than getting it out if the cupboard every morning, but he makes a sandwich and gets himself several pieces of fruit every day?

your a strange one.
I and the majority of people I know have their own little stash of goodies,be it crisps, chocolate bars, biscuitswell anything really.
I wouldn't make an issue out of this.
He is a grown man afterall.

Lindormilk · 08/08/2019 08:51

Let the guy eat! Whats the issue here?

So peculiar.

TulipsTwoLips · 08/08/2019 08:51

My husband does this. Seems quite efficient to me! He grabs a load when they are on offer and puts them straight in the car.

Everything else stays at home as it needs to be in the fridge.

LatteLove · 08/08/2019 08:51

Jeez OP, what a bloody odd thing to be irritated about.

Perhaps he wants to make sure that if he buys it and take it to work himself none of you fuckers will eat it. That’s why I buy my work stashed separately to food shopping!

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 08/08/2019 08:53

I'm a support worker so don't have a desk.

I have serious Desk Food Stash envy right now...

SingingSands · 08/08/2019 08:53

Yes, you're being unreasonable. But maybe the school hols are starting to drag a bit and you've had time to overthink this and get worked up?

Maybe you need a secret stash of gin and crisps? Wink

Rachie1973 · 08/08/2019 08:53

My DH does this too. So do I. I just can’t see this as a problem.

Bezalelle · 08/08/2019 08:54

Unclench, OP! This is seriously weird and controlling. Let the man be.

ShirleyPhallus · 08/08/2019 08:54

Super controlling and super weird

How could anyone care about this?

Wishihad · 08/08/2019 08:54

The fact that he has snacks in his draw is making you feel you dont do a good job at shopping?

Mn is getting weirder lately. They are his drawer, his food. He has no obligation to keep any food he eats in your house.

Loads of people keep food in drawers in offices. I have biscuits, packet soups and some sachets of protein shake for breakfast, after I have been to the gym.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 08/08/2019 08:54

I don’t see the problem really. My Dh keeps food in his work van, crisps, a bottle of undiluted squash, biscuits etc. He makes a sandwich, salad, soup or a wrap each morning & takes a bottle of iced water. The rest is in the van so he always has it with him. I prefer it as I don’t have to remember to put bits for him on the shopping.

Apolloanddaphne · 08/08/2019 08:54

Most people who work in an office have a food stash in their desk drawer. I know i did. I don't work now but i keep emergency snacks in my car. It's all perfectly normal.

OoohRhubarbLetsGo · 08/08/2019 08:55

I don’t understand why this is an issue- far more sensible and cost-effective to buy multipacks in a supermarket than to buy individual items in the canteen.

The only problem for me would be if he kept his own treats squirrelled away, but at home he ate the food that you’d bought for the children’s packed lunches.

Purplejay · 08/08/2019 08:55

I have no idea why this bothers you.

Pinkout · 08/08/2019 08:56

I can’t see a problem here at all.

PhillyLift · 08/08/2019 08:56

Buuuuuut...fruit and bread are things that you can't really leave in a desk stash!!

So he leaves items at work that can be stored without going off and makes his own fresh food each day.

Cannot for the life of me think why you feel this is a reflection on you in any way?

Lazypuppy · 08/08/2019 08:56

I have a 'food stash' at work.

I'm really struggling to see the issue?

cricketmum84 · 08/08/2019 08:56

I thought everyone had a little work stash in their drawer?

I'm reallly not sure why this bothers you so much?

amusedbush · 08/08/2019 08:58

I don't know anyone at my work who doesn't have a stash of food, to some extent. The guy I share an office with has a drawer packed full of crisps, cereal bars, fruit, biscuits and sweets.

It's not weird in the slightest.

Parkandride · 08/08/2019 08:58

Looking at my popcorn desk stash wondering what the issue is!

ollo · 08/08/2019 08:58

This is normal and it's easier for him to buy as he can physically see when something needs topping up as opposed to telling you, getting you to buy, him taking the stuff to work, etc.

Total non-issue and not sure why you'd be annoyed. Surely it just saves you both some time?

Saddler · 08/08/2019 08:58

Seems like a non issue

Walkingandwalking · 08/08/2019 08:59

I can see both sides. I have a little stash but it’s healthy: savoury oat cakes, satsumas, apples, green and herbal tea.
I see no problem with him having a little stash but maybe OP is concerned because it’s unheathy as it sounds like it’s all junk food?

grumiosmum · 08/08/2019 09:00

Normal.

Walkingandwalking · 08/08/2019 09:00

It’s probably cheaper than him buying ad-hoc bits too.
