How does Jeremy Corbin justify knowing that people will never vote for his party as long as he’s heading it… but he will never leave?

I’m not debating whether people are right to dislike him or not BUT fairly or not he is pretty universally loathed which makes him a bit like being a 3 legged horse at the Derby.

If you're running a party, company, or country people have got to like you or at least deeply respect your talents and if neither is there surely the decent thing is to step aside.

For the life of me I can’t get my head around how anyone could keep doing this to a country they say they love. AIBU?

You can dislike a party leader all you like. But really you should be voting for that party's values. Have you read the Labour manifesto? Which way do you usually lean?

I'm not sure what you mean about how can he keep doing this to his country. He's not in power and never has been. And you've spelled his name wrong.

He is not universally loathed. If that was the case, he would achieve no votes whatsoever.
Decide what your values are. And what's important to you. And vote accordingly.

I am not a Labour voter by the way.

dorisdog · 07/08/2019 19:17

He's not loathed in my house, or among my friends. Speak for yourself. I think he's great and he's always been on the right side of history. The Labour Party have the largest membership of any political party in Europe - do you really think that would be the case if people didn't like him? I've been working in mental health services for years, and then on climate change - Under Corbyn's watch Labour have produced the best polices for tackling climate change, undoing privatisation, addressing poverty. Have you even read their polices?

Jazzybeats · 07/08/2019 19:18

Quite a lot of people voted for him in the last election. Didn’t Labour wipe out the Tory majority?

Samcro · 07/08/2019 19:19

A lot of peope i know like him,
I hope labour get in next time,

marvellousnightforamooncup · 07/08/2019 19:19

I've always supported Labour but not now. It's as if they're Tory plants. Just when it's more important than ever to have a strong opposition to hold the government to account they're just never there. Feeble policies, zero charisma, too little, too late.

I get Corbyn was following the path on Brexit decided by consensus at the conference last year. That's all well and good, but desperate times call for strong leadership and pragmatism not occasional whispered mumblings from your allotment.

Asthenia · 07/08/2019 21:22

I think he’s wonderful. The majority of people I know think the same. I only ever hear about how much people dislike him in the media 🤷🏻‍♀️

zeezee3 · 07/08/2019 21:26

Agree OP. The man is a clown, and I loathe him with a passion.

I wish he would fuck off to the far side of fuck.

He has ruined the Labour party, and it makes me very angry and very sad.

I am now politically homeless.

I don't understand how he cannot see that HE is the reason Labour keep losing.

Soontobe60 · 07/08/2019 21:29

That's a very sweeping assumption, OP. I know loads of people that will still vote Labour, maybe you just hang around in Tory circles?

doadeer · 07/08/2019 21:32

He's not loathed in this house. He was democratically elected by over 300,000 members.

As we've seen with the previous labour government and our current government where there have been 3 PMs not elected by general public - the leader can change at any time. It's foolish to say you won't vote for the party because you don't like the leader as your only reason. I vote for the party I think is best for the country.

If you are a labour supported who feels such strong dislike for him are you registered to vote for the next labour leader?

And have you deliberately misspelled his name to be undermining? It seems amazing how many people purport to hate Corbyn can't seem to spell his name.

doadeer · 07/08/2019 21:33

Labour supporter *

HeresMe · 07/08/2019 21:34

The problem is Jeremy listens to momentum and party members and fails to understand most labour voters are neither.

He promised moon on a stick at last election especially to students but people have realised he can not deliver.

He's useless and I'm very wary of someone who would want the stress of being prime minister at his age unless he craves power.

SuzieQ10 · 07/08/2019 21:40

I've always been a labour voter. A lot of my friends and family seem to really like and support JC. I'm unsure.
I'll still vote labour. But I'd be much happier about it if someone stronger stepped up and got rid of all the dead wood in the party. I feel quite embarrassed by some of the labour MPs. Would love someone to whip the party into shape and lead.

applepieicecream · 07/08/2019 21:44

I agree with you. He is detested like nobody has ever detested a politician before in amongst the people I know and work with. I know nobody who will vote for labour with him in power, not one person. All the labour members I now have left the party in droves. It’s very sad. So many of us are politically homeless

bluegirlgreen · 07/08/2019 21:49

YANBU. I know many people who have voted Labour since they started voting (several decades,) who will now be voting for The brexit party or the tories. I wish someone would make him leave.

DippyAvocado · 07/08/2019 21:50

Yanbu. I had high hopes when he was elected leader, but he's just not very good at the job. Labour should be wiping the floor with the government at the moment and the fact they arent shows they are in desperate need of a change. Labour only did as well as they did in the last election because a lot of remain supporters voted tactically thinking they were a better bet than the Conservatives. They habe been so let down that they won't make the same mistake again, hence the swing away from Labour towards the pro-remain parties in the polls.

SciFiRules · 07/08/2019 21:52

Yes the man is a terrorist sympathiser, has no grasp of the modern economics of the UK and is steeped in the Lenonist Marxist rhetoric of the 70s. I can never vote for the labour party whilst he is leading and John Mcdonald is on the front bench. I'm a life long labour voter but I couldn't vote for his manifesto. I also can't vote for the party whilst it's being manipulated by momentum.

OunceOfFlounce · 07/08/2019 21:52

You could ask the same about Ed Miliband or Gordon Brown. I think being made public enemy number one is something any Labour leader is going to have try to negotiate.

DpWm · 07/08/2019 21:53

Corbyn is the best thing that's happened to the Labour Party.

YeOldeTrout · 07/08/2019 21:54

I'd hold my nose but vote for Corbynites if it kept Tories out.

CanaryFairy · 07/08/2019 21:54

I have always voted Labour. I could never vote for Corbin. YANBU

zeezee3 · 07/08/2019 21:55

@DpWm

Corbyn is the WORST thing that's happened to the Labour Party.

Fixed that for you.

MoodLighting · 07/08/2019 21:56

YANBU, the polling shows Labour well in the lead if he steps aside.

DpWm · 07/08/2019 21:56

Ed Milliband was responsible for the worst defeat labour has ever experienced. A Guardian/BBC (etc) favourite.

Corbyn was responsible for one of the biggest revivals the Labour Party ever experienced. A BBC/Guardian (etc) nemesis.
Huh. Go figure.

megletthesecond · 07/08/2019 21:56

I don't know. I wish he'd bugger off.
I'm Labour and think he's a liability. We won't win with him in charge.

Sandybval · 07/08/2019 21:57

Labour should have, and could have walked the last election with someone, anyone else at the helm. There comes a time when you have to hold your hands up for the good of what you believe in and move on.
