How does Jeremy Corbin justify knowing that people will never vote for his party as long as he’s heading it… but he will never leave?

I’m not debating whether people are right to dislike him or not BUT fairly or not he is pretty universally loathed which makes him a bit like being a 3 legged horse at the Derby.

If you're running a party, company, or country people have got to like you or at least deeply respect your talents and if neither is there surely the decent thing is to step aside.

For the life of me I can’t get my head around how anyone could keep doing this to a country they say they love. AIBU?

I don’t know anyone who rates him IRL and I know party members and an MP. I’m a floating voter but would never vote for Corbyn and his Marxist Chancellor.

Boris is bizarrely popular- it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out

PeaBea · 07/08/2019 22:01

We're to vote for political parties rather than individual leaders. That said, I think Corbyn is an anti-Semitic socialist with no grasp of economics, international relations nor leadership. He - and the Labour Party in its current form - won't be getting my vote.

BertsFriend · 07/08/2019 22:06

YANBU. I know a few previous Labour voters that won't consider voting Labour while Corbyn is the party's leader. He knows, yet won't step aside and allow someone who stands a chance of winning to be the leader.

To the pp that mentioned over 300,000 members voting for him - weren't many of them Conservative voters buying cheap membership to vote for Corbyn as leader, ensuring the current govt stayed in power? (I think I read that on here though, so might not be accurate).

SallyWD · 07/08/2019 22:14

I love him and many of my friends and family love him. I agree with 90% of his policies. I'd be delighted if he were to become PM. I'm genuinely curious as to why people don't like him. What policies do you disagree with? Protecting the NHS? Helping the disadvantaged?

Thesinisterdiagram · 07/08/2019 22:15

What’s the point? Pretty much any Labour Party leader will have a smear campaign against them and be branded ‘unelectable’ by the right wing press, they’ll have awkward pictures posted of them eating a sandwich and be labelled anti-something. And it will be lapped up as fact by the British public.

Holidayquestion1 · 07/08/2019 22:15

YANBU OP.

It is beyond infuriating.

And in their bid for power, the Labour Party have not opposed Brexit. Or have been so wishy washy about it that everyone long ago gave up paying any attention to any of their feeble utterances.

They are still not in power, right wing fascist lunatics have taken over the asylum, a no deal Brexit is looming on the horizon, and Corbyn is saying he could not support a government of national unity in the event of a no confidence vote. You couldn’t make it up.

IMO he and his entourage should vacate ASAP.

Blairites might be hated 🙄, but if it takes a Blairite to get the Labour Party into power, would that be such a bad thing? Genuinely asking.

themmatricc · 07/08/2019 22:17

well people are right to not like antisemitic communist like him

CorbynsComrade · 07/08/2019 22:17

Interesting that some of the people slating him can’t spell Corbyn, McDonnell or Leninist.

CorbynsComrade · 07/08/2019 22:19

@themmatricc Expect he’s not a communist, not even close. He wants reforms of capitalism to allow for some socialist elements in society. That’s not what communists want...

JustDanceAddict · 07/08/2019 22:19

I’ll never vote labour w Corbyn as leader. He’s too obsessed with his extreme left wing politics to see that he’s a liability. Yes, some people like him, like some like Farage on the other side of the coin.

CorbynsComrade · 07/08/2019 22:20

@themmatricc Except

YobaOljazUwaque · 07/08/2019 22:20

I don't think he can perceive that he's doing anything wrong. He is uncompromising in his socialist principles. Petty facts like eg "some comprises are a good idea to create a workable balance between socialism and capitalism" or "the UK voting public is not keen enough on pure socialism to return a majority Parliament to an uncompromisingly socialist party" are unacceptable. He will keep on keeping on until those facts change to something happier like "capitalism has now failed so badly that people are ready for an alternative" and "UK voters are now desperate to give proper socialism a go rather than Blairite semi-Thatcherism" - he has an unshakable faith that the Truth Shall Become Known eventually.

themmatricc · 07/08/2019 22:21

*What’s the point? Pretty much any Labour Party leader will have a smear campaign against them and be branded ‘unelectable’ by the right wing press,@ the best leader labour ever had blair didnt have this problem wasnt branded unelectable and won 3 elections

Holidayquestion1 · 07/08/2019 22:22

he has an unshakable faith that the Truth Shall Become Known eventually

Yes, it’s exactly this.

ssd · 07/08/2019 22:22

I like him . I don't recognise your vitriol op. Not in this house. Sorry. Try harder.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 07/08/2019 22:24

I only joined Labour because of him. Nearly all my friends are Labour voters. We are all ethical people and want to see a system like the Scandinavian countries, here in the UK. The fact that people see his policies as ‘hard left’ is laughable and shows how easily led people are by an aggressive, right wing media. Labour’s Brexit policy is the only one which can unite the massive split in this country created by the Tories and UKIP. I love Corbyn ❤️

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 07/08/2019 22:25

JC/JMc/Momentum would rather have Labour in opposition and keep labour to the left than have a chance winning an election and have a centre left party

What use is being in opposition what changes can you make none but that doesn’t matter to them. And under JC leadership Labour have been a pathetically weak opposition. He is utterly useless as a party leader, lazy and incompetent.

And to save the NHS, support the poorer you need to raise taxes and not spend billions on renationalising services with money you have not got

Oh I think turning a blind eye to anti semitism, to show alliance with terrorist groups, to ignore the bullying that his supporters carried out are just a few things I dislike about him

HeresMe · 07/08/2019 22:26

Labour also have problem that a lot of Thier voters are in Brexit areas so a turn to remain would lose them a shed load of votes.

themmatricc · 07/08/2019 22:27

@themmatricc Expect he’s not a communist, not even close. He wants reforms of capitalism to allow for some socialist elements in society. That’s not what communists want... why does the communist party of britian support him then if hes not a communist
www.politicshome.com/news/uk/political-parties/labour-party/jeremy-corbyn/news/93351/excl-communist-party-members-work
why when he was asked his opinions on marx did he say that a very interesting question not say the obvious that he was responsible for the worst ideology ever created why is his shadow chancellor say hes a Marxist why did the morning star support corbyn and why do these pictures exist.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 07/08/2019 22:28

Four wasted years

What a fucking shame when a strong professional and competent opposition party was truly needed

Sadly he would probably win another leadership challenge and he won’t step down. Still yay Labour is to the left AngryHmm

DippyAvocado · 07/08/2019 22:31

I'm genuinely curious as to why people don't like him. What policies do you disagree with?

I don't think it's his policies that most potential Labour voters have a problem with, other than the rather glaring problem of the non-existent Brexit policy. It's the fact that he seems neither interested in nor capable of becoming PM. He has no presence - I follow some Parliamentary debates and can't remember the last time he gave a decent performance at the despatch box. Also it seems like he only listens to people who agree with him, and that isn't the sign of a strong leader.

pamperramper · 07/08/2019 22:32

The people who say they like him don't seem to care that the country is about to be wrecked by a Brexit that he has supported, against the wishes of most Labour voters too. Who cares what he's written in his schoolboy essays? He's as power mad and as selfish as BJ is.

HeresMe · 07/08/2019 22:33

People don't like him as he is wishy washy he's pretty crap most of time.

CorbynsComrade · 07/08/2019 22:34

@themmatricc Why does the CPB give him CRITICAL support? Because the CPB has always championed a left lead socialist government as we understand that change needs to be progressive. We’ve applied for affliction long before Corbyn. Lots of people on the left appreciate Marx and his work, not just us harden left wing ‘extremists’ John McDonnell isn’t someone we’d class as a Marxist (whether he calls himself one or not), he’s likely fairly sympathetic to the cause though.
