I don’t want him to but what is the alternative!?

OP posts:
MyFokMarelize · 26/07/2019 16:47

You are, sadly, right.

There is no effective opposition. Sad and depressing times.

catgirl1976 · 26/07/2019 16:48

I think it would be a massively hung parliament and they’d end up doing a deal with the Brexit party. Which would be awful.

I have no idea who I would vote for in a GE sadly. I am politically homeless. I wouldn’t vote Tory but can’t vote labour, Lib Dem or green due to them not knowing why a woman is. Jeremy and Jo Swinson are both dreadful.

Flyingsouthwiththeswallows · 26/07/2019 16:48

In his dreams !!

Having spoken to numerous people about him over the last few weeks, I don’t know one person who would vote for him.

Bobbindobbin · 26/07/2019 16:48

Very depressing 😩

Boris is dreadful.

Then again in London we had him as the Mayor so know how expensive he is.

ColaFreezePop · 26/07/2019 16:51

I thought it was funny yesterday when Boris was announcing his spending how worried Sajid Javid looked.

Echobelly · 26/07/2019 16:52

Basically, yes. He is awful but his bullishness makes it seem like the tories are much more together than Labour or anyone else (although they're not). Plus it's a solidly Brexit government and I'm afraid an awful lot of the public who bother to vote support Brexit.

Bobbindobbin · 26/07/2019 16:56

I wish someone would tell me what the alternative is ? Jeremy ? He frightens me.

AllSweetnessAndLight · 26/07/2019 16:57

YABU. The man is a loon. Then again, people voted Trump into office so anything is possible. 🤷‍♀️

clarenceduke · 26/07/2019 16:58

Well we’ve got Boris and Jeremy.

What a utterly wonderful choice between two complete idiots.

Songsofexperience · 26/07/2019 16:59

Labour has one month to get rid of Corbyn.
Let's see.
If they do, the Tories are finished for a long time.

clarenceduke · 26/07/2019 17:01

@Songsofexperience Why one month?

Cookit · 26/07/2019 17:02

I think he would win in coalition with the brexit party.

I’d choose Boris over Corbyn any day but if labour move more to the centre I’ll give them my vote in a heartbeat.

LaurieFairyCake · 26/07/2019 17:03

The Lib Dem's would do really well.

We can sort out the woman issue with them.

Brexit isn't more 'important' but it is more pressing - so I would Happily vote for the only Remain party

fromthefloorboardsup · 26/07/2019 17:03

What frightens you about Corbyn? (Not being goady, genuinely interested as you're not the first to say it)

BertrandRussell · 26/07/2019 17:04

Yep, Johnson would win.

BertrandRussell · 26/07/2019 17:05

Frankly, as someone who is a natural Labour voter, I wish Corbyn was a bit more frightening!

ghostyslovesheets · 26/07/2019 17:06

TM made that mistake if you remember - ended up in a costly alliance with the DUP - careful not to believe everything you hear

I am certainly no fan of JC either

Songsofexperience · 26/07/2019 17:08

@Clarenceduke
Because the last possible vote of no confidence to trigger an election to take place before 31st october is a few days after parliament returns in September.
Labour would need to have someone else in place by then to stand a chance.

Bobbindobbin · 26/07/2019 17:09

I don’t trust him, and I don’t trust Boris either.

OP posts:
PerkingFaintly · 26/07/2019 17:14

I wouldn’t vote Tory but can’t vote labour, Lib Dem or green due to them not knowing why a woman is.

Well that was a cheap win for whoever's behind that line.

(Not meaning you, catgirl, I know you didn't invent it.)

The Tories also don't know what a woman is, but that doesn't seem to stop Tory voters. Some of them have come right out and said so on MN.

So, only Labour, LibDem, Green voters staying at home for this one issue, then? Oh, and of course it was used to kill the WEP out of the gate.

Voter suppression is how Trump got in. His team knew there were large swathes of people who would never vote forhim – so they threw their effort into dissuading those people from voting at all.

Worked, didn't it?

Songsofexperience · 26/07/2019 17:14

And I don't think Corbyn is frightening as such but rather extraordinarily ill suited.
His vision is a dusty 70s throwback and I disagree with much of his foreign policy and past associations.
I would however subscribe to a manifesto which is pro European and offers a plan for improved infrastructures & public services while still encouraging entrepreneurship- and yes I'm prepared to pay more tax.

MiniCooperLover · 26/07/2019 17:16

Corbyn is too stuck to his principles which you wouldn't normally consider a problem ... except even when he needs to be more broad minded for the sake of the party he just won't do it if it goes against his principles. He won't budge an inch, he's a bad leader.

BertrandRussell · 26/07/2019 17:17

“I don’t trust him, and I don’t trust Boris either.”

Actually, insofar as I would trust any politician, I would probably trust Corbyn. I think he’s a crap leader though, and I will vote for him with a heavy heart.

Cookit · 26/07/2019 17:46

For me it’s a straight ideological opposition to all that Corbyn stands for. I don’t believe in hammering business and higher earners until they bleed, which seems to be what he wants. I don’t think that works for the country. I worry for my job, my DH’s job, all my friends’ jobs under Corbyn. I don’t have a clue what he stands for on Brexit despite actually trying to find out (as far as I know they will oppose ANY Tory deal because it’s a Tory deal and then campaign for a second referendum and campaign for remain ... but somehow they also insist this does not make them a remainer party and there are other outcomes possible. Who knows what they are? And how have they possibly not come up with a position on whether they are for or against Brexit still?) I think that their response to the anti semitism problem has been incomprehensibly bad. It begs the question on how him and his team would handle anything difficult.

I think Boris is a pretty awful person so I only support him because the alternative is Corbyn. I wish Labour would become more credible.
