I don’t want him to but what is the alternative!?

OP posts:
Coppersulphate · 28/07/2019 19:31

I hope we do have an election because I think Boris could win it for the Tories.
But I want him to get us out of the EU first.

bellinisurge · 28/07/2019 19:39

Johnson's theatrics are for the sole purpose of dragging voters away from the Brexit Party and back to tbe Tories. And then to kid them that WA 2.0 with an NI only backstop or a border in the sea is an act of political genius that they will support. Or to win a snap GE and get rid of reliance on DUP to do the same. And, of course, a snap GE will win him an extension without looking like he is begging the EU for one.
He is not interested in my vote or my opinion. He's only interested in creating the winning Brexiteer brand.

Peregrina · 28/07/2019 19:42

The Milibands are Jewish, so how come anti-Semitism is such a big thing in the Labour party?

I would be surprised if there wasn't any, because sadly, it's still everywhere, but it does have a large whiff of a smear campaign. Compare that with the Tory party who are anti-semitic, anti-Islamic and just out and out bigots but the Leavers are apparently lapping it all up.

Whoever the Labour party put in they would find something to smear them with.

Tavannach · 28/07/2019 19:48

The Milibands are Jewish, so how come anti-Semitism is such a big thing in the Labour party?

The number of complaints from Jewish members of the Labour party who have been on the receiving end of antisemitism from other members has risen steeply in the last few years, specifically during the time that Corbyn has been leader.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 28/07/2019 19:52

Peregrina the figure is 0.06% of the membership, its still too high but not as high as they would have us believe

MaxNormal · 28/07/2019 20:02

@bellinisurge I really really want you to be right.
I've started to have the sickest sinking feeling that this has all been engineered, with a plan to crash us out of the EU to create rich pickings for a nice bit of disaster capitalism.

Outsomnia · 28/07/2019 20:24

Would I be wrong to think that a lot of this posturing is targeted at those who are, well what shall I say, less informed or something. Soundbytes and rallying cries maybe?

FPTP has led us to this pass, and consequently a lack of interest in politics from many. Why bother, when the incumbent could be wearing a SCREAM mask and will still be voted in.

There is so much talk about democracy and the will of the people, but honestly it will never happen with FPTP, and no one will change it now either.

jasjas1973 · 28/07/2019 20:27

imho if Johnson thought Remain was the way to stay in No 10, then he would become a remainer.

Coppers faith in a man that has been pro EU all his life (esp in his years as Mayor of London) until the referendum was announced is rather pathetic.

daisypond · 28/07/2019 20:37

Unless the opposition use similar tactics , I’m not sure they can win. They’d need to push hard on nationalism and immigration, saying a no deal Brexit is treacherous to the country’s interests and jobs because it would wreck our trade deals, jobs, NHS, the value of the pound on your pocket, etc, and it would increase immigration from countries like India and China.

jasjas1973 · 28/07/2019 20:49

Yes and be shouted down with the cry of "Project Fear"

no, remain have to focus on the positives not the negatives.

Outsomnia · 28/07/2019 20:54

It is all about power isn't it?

Doesn't matter how much Brexit will impact on us.

But whilst many may have voted to leave, I doubt they voted for no deal either. I read that it would be the easiest deal in the world, no problem and all that.

Not looking so good now is it? But the hubris of the current Government and PM (that none of us voted for apart from a tiny Tory member contingent), is busy on the vocal propaganda front I see.

I would not rate any of them. And I wish Corbyn was gone too BTW.

The arrogance of a post Colonial UK is astounding. But anyway, I wish they would think of the people rather than the ideal of Brexit.

Not going to happen is it? Just a game to them.

Imaginethis · 28/07/2019 20:55

Long term Croydon resident here. Assuming/hoping poster who thinks we and Bromley residents can’t be trusted to vote in the right way was being ironic.

For what it’s worth Labour had the most votes in Croydon in the recent Eu elections (yes I was surprised)

SeaWitchly · 28/07/2019 20:55

I honestly cannot believe anyone would consider voting Tory with BoJo the clown in charge.
What exactly do you like about him... the wild hair, the jabbing finger, the random burbling of Latin?
He is the epitome of style over substance.

SeaWitchly · 28/07/2019 20:58

BoJo announcing 20,000 more police... 😁😁😁😁😁

ilovesooty · 28/07/2019 20:59

The jabbing finger makes me seethe.

Outsomnia · 28/07/2019 21:22

Austerity was the first move. Keep them in their place etc. not our problem, it is theirs.

Now it is splurge. (for re election naturally) kind of hard to think of the austerity rules now that the purse strings are open in the hope of Tory victory. Honestly, who cannot see through this!

I don't know what this country has become anymore.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 28/07/2019 21:31

I cant disagree with a single thing on that list

try again

To think in Boris calls an election now he will win.......
Cinammoncake · 28/07/2019 22:24

I agree justanotherposter and would like to see those things. They need to get in power to do it, and get the message across more clearly. Their stance on Europe is a problem, and the antisemitism question of course, but I do think JC is their main problem right now.

user1502276444 · 28/07/2019 22:37

Trump got in because he was running against Hillary. It was a devil we know vs devil we don’t know.

The80sweregreat · 29/07/2019 05:09

Outsomia, I've seen through it but millions won't.

The80sweregreat · 29/07/2019 05:15

The one and only good thing about an GE is the fact that JC will end up resigning when he loses it. (Surely the writing will be on the wall then!? )
The rest of it is awful , but I feel a Boris landslide esp now the 'austerity is ending '
word is being peddled. It's so orchestrated .

Peregrina · 29/07/2019 07:24

Not everywhere will have a Boris landslide - Scotland won't, I am pretty sure, and Remain voting constituencies won't either.

Alsohuman · 29/07/2019 07:29

There won’t be a Boris landslide, moderate Tories and Tory remainers will desert him in droves. How ironic that May’s warning about being the “nasty party” has been made worse by her incompetence.

Sorority · 29/07/2019 07:36

I think the Conservatives would win a GE, although I think they'd have to depend on the Brexit Party for a clear majority.

If you're not a Conservative then be careful what you wish for!
