I don’t want him to but what is the alternative!?

OP posts:
Purplejay · 26/07/2019 20:57

It would likely be a hung parliament

ginghambox · 26/07/2019 20:59

Fair enough, no offence.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 26/07/2019 21:01

I don’t think the Labour Party is capable of getting rid on JC. The unions won’t allow it and any real opposition to him has been pushed out of the party.

I am a floating voter in a Tory stronghold but I wouldn’t even consider voting for labour as a party for all the reasons already mentioned.
I won’t vote Lib Dem/green because of their policies on self I’d.
Plus I live close to Brighton with friends who have to put up with the hash up that the Green Party is making of the area.

I am not a great fan of Boris but with the political wasteland we face then I think I am prepared to give him a shot. If he delivers on his promise of 20000 more police and end austerity then maybe I won’t regret it.

ilovesooty · 26/07/2019 21:02

I simply don't think self id is a pressing consideration compared to Brexit and austerity.

heronontoast · 26/07/2019 21:04

He won't win - he's not fit to lead the Country while there is so much at stake and the public now know that they were misled by vote leave.

I don't particularly like Jeremy Corbyn, but I'd still vote Labour to keep the Tories out.

Alsohuman · 26/07/2019 21:04

Nor do I @ilovesooty. Priorities.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 26/07/2019 21:05

Ilovesooty You might not but I do and I am sure many other women will feel the same way.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 26/07/2019 21:13

Yes he will

He is very characteristic and intelligent

Unfortunately he is only interested in himself and no doubt now he has the chance to be the PM that changed the UK

Hopefully more Labour members will come to their senses once Corbyns leadership is challenged and vote for a labour leader who can challenge Boris and won an election

lboogy · 26/07/2019 21:16

I think he's going to win. All the people who voted UKIP and leave U.K. will line up behind him giving him a majority . It's a sad state of affairs

ilovesooty · 26/07/2019 21:18

Fine @Dontsweatthelittlestuff. You have different priorities from mine when casting your vote.

PerkingFaintly · 26/07/2019 21:18

I think the issue of self-id is important, but there are also other important issues and some of them are urgent in terms of govt action.

I think self-id is going to rumble on for a while with all parties, continually being kicked into the long grass.

It's a ball I wouldn't want to take my eye off, and I salute the women doing excellent work in this field on MN and elsewhere.

But when it comes to an election, I won't be casting my vote based primarily on position on self-ID. (Well, I suppose I might consider this if one of the parties makes it Item 1 in their manifesto. But I don't see that happening.)

ginandbearit · 26/07/2019 21:19

The adult, managerial choice for Labour leader would be Keir Starmer, but I'd really love to see Emily Thornberry (aka Lady Nugee😬) take on Boris..she has wit , looks like she could drink him under the table and would treat him like a naughty schoolboy whilst easily demolishing his overblown oratory . ..won't happen but just a fun thought .

HouseworkAvoider10 · 26/07/2019 21:22

Yes - if he calls an election now - yes, I think he will win.
If he calls an election after Brexit - i'm not sure, depends how Brexit pans out.

ilovesooty · 26/07/2019 21:22

Exactly. I'm obviously not alone in feeling it isn't the most urgent and pressing issue at the moment.

ginghambox · 26/07/2019 21:22

I'd really love to see Emily Thornberry (aka Lady Nugee😬) take on Boris
The eye rolling and sighing would be an awsome spectacle.

Alsohuman · 26/07/2019 21:24

It could be @ginandbearit. The Labour Party’s under pressure to have a woman leader. I agree, she’d be excellent.

Justanotherlurker · 26/07/2019 21:31

Thornberry would be even more of a disaster for labour than Corbyn, she is the epitome of the "labour has forgotten its routes".

What has happened since corbyn and brexit is that it has shown that a lot of the "dyed in the wool" labour supporters are more center right economically than they like to profess.

As for Corbyn he has been consistently polling behind "don't know" since he became leader, it is only the deluded economically/geopolitical illiterate who think he would make a good PM.

Alsohuman · 26/07/2019 21:33

What routes has Labour forgotten?

Ibiza2015 · 26/07/2019 21:41

Isn’t democracy awful? Personally I think votes should be weighted depending on how many Waitrose points voters have accrued in the last year with extra points for Abel & Cole purchases.

Or we could just ignore votes all those awful people in the north and midlands and just count London votes, although even in London there are places like Bromley and Croydon where you can’t entirely trust them to vote for the right thing.

Alsohuman · 26/07/2019 21:44

Wtf? 😲

ginghambox · 26/07/2019 21:48

Wtf? 😲
Ditto.

ginandbearit · 26/07/2019 21:52

Labour going back to its roots is the recipe for disaster ...the true believers and momentum tankies can have all the fantasies they want about storming the seats of power ..aint going to happen .The tories are praying that Corbyn stays long enough for the next election ..they didnt need Boris to beat Corbyn, Uncle Bumble will do it himself for them .

GCAcademic · 26/07/2019 21:54

He won't win - he's not fit to lead the Country while there is so much at stake and the public now know that they were misled by vote leave.

I wish this were true but, if you look over the pond, they have happily elected a man who is not fit to lead their country (and I’d warrant they’ll do so again in next year’s election), and they know that the man is a shameless liar, but voted for him anyway.

Peregrina · 26/07/2019 21:55

You all forget that Johnson can't 'just call an election'. The Fixed Term Parliament act scuppered that. He would have to lose a vote of Confidence. This is perfectly possible.

colouringinpro · 26/07/2019 21:57

We really, Really need a Lib Dem/Green Remain Alliance.
