I don’t want him to but what is the alternative!?

OP posts:
Alsohuman · 26/07/2019 21:57

He can call a GE if two thirds of MPs vote for it. May did exactly that in 2017.

colouringinpro · 26/07/2019 21:58

Keir Starmer and Yvette Cooper double act. I know. It'll never happen...

birdsdestiny · 26/07/2019 22:06

First item on the news, increase in police numbers by twenty thousand, Boris Johnson is running an election campaign as we sit here. It would be helpful if corbyn noticed this.

jasjas1973 · 26/07/2019 22:08

Thornberry would be even more of a disaster for labour than Corbyn, she is the epitome of the "labour has forgotten its routes"

Its roots not routes.

She'd be a great leader, not everyone is stuck in the class wars of the last century.

Justanotherlurker · 26/07/2019 22:24

What routes has Labour forgotten?

They deserted the working class under Blair (red tory apparently) and Thornberry is the epitome of center right economically and disdain for the historic core voter base.

I suspect you are trying to be snarky about my spelling, which is fine as it doesn't hold me back in my day job, but shows your lacking of political understanding as that is the only thing you could pick up on.

ilovesooty · 26/07/2019 22:25

That's probably just replacing the police that May cut in the first place.

Still Johnson knows he's dealing with voters who believed the slogan on the bus and who think he's a jolly positive rousing chap.

Justanotherlurker · 26/07/2019 22:31

She'd be a great leader, not everyone is stuck in the class wars of the last century.

You are joking aren't you?

The whole tory government is "evil" is built along class lines, the numerous astro turfing labour posts on here are dripping with class connotations, its not conservative supporters stating that they have come from working class routes to try and justify their position of not wanting Corbyns tax structure.

Its roots not routes.

Gold star for you, it still doesn't distract from my point as you got the overall meaning

iwantadishwasher · 26/07/2019 22:32

I agree birdsdestiny, we are in GE territory. Labour needs stop gazing at its shoes pronto.

birdsdestiny · 26/07/2019 22:39

Yes ilovesooty, I am sure the numbers don't add up but that's not the point. He is campaigning now and he might win. Labour need to attract some of the very same voters you are criticising.

procrastinatingtoday · 26/07/2019 22:40

It's a sad state of affairs that both main parties' backbenchers are the capable ones, and frontbench lunatics. Including leaders, who have some strong support but also very negative image. Neither make a good PM and as much as current cabinet scares, also one that JC would appoint 😫 Thankfully can't see how either will get enough seats on their own,due to Libdem/ Remain cause. Early election will bring even more chaos but at least Brexit will be further delayed.

Alsohuman · 26/07/2019 22:40

Yes @ilovesooty, depending on short memories.

@Justanotherlurker, what’s needed now is a Labour leader who can make the party electable. It’s pointless harking back to the days of Attlee, we’ve moved on. Many traditional Labour voters have sadly moved to the far right leave parties.

Thornberry is direct and straightforward, she has commonsense in abundance and what you see is what you get. She’d be an excellent and I’d vote Labour again if she was in charge. Now? No way.

Justanotherlurker · 26/07/2019 22:42

Still Johnson knows he's dealing with voters who believed the slogan on the bus and who think he's a jolly positive rousing chap.

I suppose thats why he has backed the amnesty of 500,000 illegal immigrants.

It's this kind of understand of politics and playing it as team sports is why we are in the situation we are in, the uneducated is far from a right leaning problem.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 26/07/2019 22:45

David Cameron - vote for me or get chaos under Labour

(along comes chaos)

Theresa May - vote for me or get chaos under Labour

(more chaos ensues)

Boris Johnson - vote for me or get chaos under Labour

(I'm seeing a pattern here)

Im quite happy with Corbyn's leadership, have agreed in all the directions of travel not really but more of my values would be represented by Labour than they ever will be by a Tory also I'm disabled so it really is a matter of life and death for me who gets in

Havent RTFT but going back to do that now

iwantadishwasher · 26/07/2019 22:46

I suppose thats why he has backed the amnesty of 500,000 illegal immigrants.

It makes him seem liberal, doesn't it?

Alsohuman · 26/07/2019 22:49

Words are cheap. Let’s see if he delivers on them. And remember who’s in the Home Office.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 26/07/2019 22:51

I suspect you’re being disingenuous but on the off chance you’re not, any Labour Party I voted for wouldn’t be anti Semitic for a start. HTH.

0.06% is the figure for anti-semitsm in the Labour party which is less than the population at large, is it still too much absolutely

Alsohuman · 26/07/2019 22:53

And where does that figure come from? How can you quantify anti semitiism?

JustAnotherPoster00 · 26/07/2019 23:00

Ahead of the meeting tonight, Formby told MPs that the party received 673 accusations of antisemitism by Labour members between April 2018 and January 2019.

The email informs Labour MPs that:

Of those who were party members

96 members were immediately suspended
146 received a reminder of conduct
220 cases did not have sufficient evidence of a breach of party rules to proceed with an investigation
211 were issued with a Notice of Investigation
Of the cases who were issued with a Notice of Investigation or suspension, there have been 96 NEC antisemitism disputes panel decisions

42 members referred to national constitutional committee (NCC)
16 members issued with a formal NEC warning
6 members’ cases were referred for further investigation
25 members issued with ‘reminder of conduct’
7 members’ cases were closed
The following 18 NCC decisions have been made

12 members were expelled
6 received sanctions

24 cases currently with the NCC, Labour’s top disciplinary body, are outstanding.

Cut and pasted obviously, its from Labour list but it is available in other places im just lazy

Justanotherlurker · 26/07/2019 23:17

It makes him seem liberal, doesn't it?

Probably why he won london mayor twice, if you think its just a pretence then, whats the saying, fallen for tabloid right left wing media.

You are being played just as much as those you despise, and just as gullible

OnlyHippyInTheVillage · 26/07/2019 23:17

Labour voter here. I usually lurk and don't post. But I feel like I have to say this. Please don't be under any illusion that Boris Johnson is funding EXTRA police. He is merely replacing what the Tories have cut over the past 9 years. And they have closed so many police stations that there may not even be anywhere to put them.
Also you really should look for the truth instead of believing what you read in the papers, especially about Jeremy Corbyn. The media have done a fabulous job of smearing him and people are gullible enough to believe what they read. Before he came along there was barely a mention of anti-semitism.
To anyone thinking of voting Lib Dem. Jo Swinson is no amazing woman by any stretch. Her voting record mirrors most Tories and speaks for itself. www.theyworkforyou.com/mp/11971/jo_swinson/east_dunbartonshire/votes

And finally, I cannot believe the selfishness of some on here. That you would vote for the Tories after everything they have done to this country. Children are starving, people are literally dying on the streets as they have no home. Parents are killing themselves because they have no money thanks to the screwed up universal credit system. Children will be hungry during these school holidays because they won't get their school lunch. People are suffering and miserable and poor.
And I shall say you all of you what I said to my unfortunately Tory voting early retired father. If you are doing alright in life yourself, regardless of what you think of Jeremy Corbyn. Why the hell would you not vote to make things better for others!

Justanotherlurker · 26/07/2019 23:31

David Cameron - vote for me or get chaos under Labour

Bit too retrospective, labour lurched to the left with entryism as Ed Milliband was pro austerity following EU rules and David was even more right wing economically hence why he tried to make it in the states.

Labour had spent 13 years in power so it's just a case of change needed, the problem now is the labour supporters not accepting they are actually center right economically

The pattern you are seeing is the tired meme of labour spending everyone elses money and loading up future generations, you only have to look at uni fees, housing costs and the rise of the magic working 16 hours as an example.

Justanotherlurker · 26/07/2019 23:36

@OnlyHippyInTheVillage

Nice namechange astro turfing, I'm sure its worth the pennies per post worth it, I am literally crying because of your comment Flowers

I will vote LD in the next election because of your political insight

iwantadishwasher · 26/07/2019 23:42

You are being played just as much as those you despise, and just as gullible

I honestly don't understand who is supposed to be playing me @Justanotherlurker or who you think I despise?

I'm being critical of some of Johnson's promises so far as I don't think they are genuine and are for effect - and, as OnlyHippy has just set out, once you unpick them they unravel.

Justanotherlurker · 27/07/2019 00:01

I honestly don't understand who is supposed to be playing me @Justanotherlurker* or who you think I despise?

Of course you don't. we have to play the dance of you not understanding.

You commented on my post of Boris backing amnesty of illegal immigrants, which punches a whole in the far right and/or people believing the 'bus' narrative.

Trying to feign ignorance is tired online debate, you can do better than this, you should stand by your own accord instead of trying to cite other posters.

birdsdestiny · 27/07/2019 00:04

Only hippy hasn't unpicked anything. They have sung the same song that has been sung for years under corbyn i.e you are all so stupid for believing what you read in the press. Not noticing that most of us have been involved in the Labour party for years and may know a little about what we are discussing.. Nobody talked about anti semitism in the Labour party pre corbyn because that section of the party held no power within the party, they do now.
