I am working-class I might be called common, I swear, I have a tattoo, I also have a degree (first class), when I am talking to other local 'common' people I use a local dialect and words that 'non-common' people might not understand. I also own my own home, something I never thought would be possible when I was young. However, I am very self-aware of my origins. So I wouldn't swear in public for example but I will swear with friends like me. So, maybe common is someone who doesn't know they are common and just behaves however they want regardless of the situation or surroundings or who they are with? Gemma in Corrie comes to mind :) But is being common really a thing? Surely it is certain behaviours rather than the person who is common? It is an old-fashioned term that is quite judgemental of people.
