To ask if those who want to leave the EU are happy to be personally worse off in order to do so

Following lots of discussion on the subject, it’s clear that leaving the EU is based on something other than financial impact, however, even the government’s impact assessments make it clear that there will be a negative impact.

Would you still chose to leave if you knew it would make you personally financially worse off?

Ugh people like Nessie make me so cross I can feel my blood pressure rising. You're right, I most certainly CAN'T have a reasoned discussion with you, by your own admission it won't affect you because you have money. We're comfortable and it won't make a massive problem for us financially. BUT I'm not prepared to fuck over my children's future for a ridiculous notion about sunlight uplands with somewhere over the rainbow being sung by unicorns, whilst flag waving sovereignites cheer gleefully.

Gosh I feel better getting that out. In all seriousness though, you're only saying it here because it's anonymous I assume?

IVFNewbie · 09/07/2019 11:18

To make the point that it's definitely not clear that there will be a negative impact. Jesus.

Nesssie · 09/07/2019 11:20

No, I am open with my choice of vote. People in real life know what I voted, and many of them voted the same.
The ones that voted stay? We acknowledge our right to a difference of opinion and move on. No hostilities.

Nesssie · 09/07/2019 11:22

Sorry your thread has turned nasty @Bearbehind, all Brexit threads do unfortunately. Hope I managed to answer your question anyway.

IVFNewbie · 09/07/2019 11:23

The vermin comment is out of order, IMO. Not cool.

Some of us have taken our small amount of spare money over the past 3 years and used it to ensure that we won't be worse off. There will be a redistribution of wealth. For some of us, its been a long time coming.

CitadelsofScience · 09/07/2019 11:26

Nesssie out of interest, the others you know that voted leave, are they all in the same financial position as yourself or are some going to be very negatively affected by it being on zero hours, minimum wage contracts?

sneakypinky · 09/07/2019 11:27

Turkeys voting for Christmas etc etc...

Bearbehind · 09/07/2019 11:28

morningrichie I appreciate this is an emotive subject but calling people vermin is hardly going to encourage discussion is it?

The vermin comment is out of order, IMO. Not cool.

Most of the Brexit threads have comments like that - I agree, it’s pretty unpleasant but I guess it’s to stop leavers posting.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 09/07/2019 11:29

Don’t know, my ex voted leave (still together at the time)

Then fucked off to ROI on his Irish passport a few months ago when it became clear that things in the construction industry were going from bad to worse 🤷‍♀️

DrCoconut · 09/07/2019 11:30

Morning, that's awkward as I have a relative who voted for brexit. Therefore you wish ill on me even though I'm against it! You also wish ill on my children because my ex voted for brexit.

Nesssie · 09/07/2019 11:32

@CitadelsofScience Some are in the same position, some have less. Honestly, I don't know many people who are in dire financial hardship (ie only £20 left at the end of each week for example).

I actually really hope that the brexiters were right and saw something that the rest of us missed.
I doubt it but I don’t want miserable conditions for the rest of my life and my children’s.

YoungEurope · 09/07/2019 11:34

Voted to Leave in 2016. I don't anticipate being any worse off financially, we are fairly comfortably off and own our home outright.

I know some people who voted remain, and others who voted to leave. Differing opinions about the possible outcomes but I think there is an overriding sense of Brexit fatigue in a lot of people.

Todaythiscouldbe · 09/07/2019 11:34

MorningRichie people like you are, to use your words, vermin.
To wish ill on people who voted in a way you don't like and their families is absolutely appalling. What a delightful human being you are

TheCatDidSay · 09/07/2019 11:36

The pure hatred to Brexit voters is disgusting. You lose any moral high ground as a remain voter by spouting such hatred.

Begrudging oxygen and wishing ill on their family’s wow. So you wish ill on babies and children? People who are not old enough to vote because a family member did.

I’d rather have a relaxed glass of wine with a brexiteer or someone of a polite difference of opinion than someone who spouts that crap.

InTheHeatofLisbon · 09/07/2019 11:36

I am a remainer, I always was and I am horrified by *Nesssie's" I'm alright Jack attitude, but vermin was a step too far.

We need to remember that when we make a statement as a remainer, other remainers are judged by that and it pains me when name calling becomes the norm.

That said, the leavers who determine they'll be fine ought to pay close attention to food shortages, medication shortages (including palliative care medication, which has been repeatedly highlighted by high ranking medics, diabetes meds, asthma meds, some types of chemo, the list is endless) and realise that the choices they made, in confidence that they and theirs would be fine, have, in fact, caused misery, destitution and in some cases, a death without dignity or pain relief and be honest about the fact that they don't care and more than that, that they deliberately decided to ignore the many warnings that it would happen.

That's not an insult, it's a statement of fact. All of this was warned of before the vote, and people either didn't care or dismissed it as rubbish.

Well here we are. You chose this, so at least be honest about why we're in this situation.

YoungEurope · 09/07/2019 11:36

The vermin comments are abhorrent btw.

sneakypinky · 09/07/2019 11:36

Well, people are wishing ill on themselves really by voting for something that is going to negatively affect them.
