Period due on my wedding day FFS!

Has anyone ever taken Norethisterone before to delay their period? Did it work? Did you have any awful side effects?

I've just realised that I'm due on my period on my bloody wedding day!!

They are usually heavy too so I can't be doing with the stress of it on that day.

WIBU to consider taking period delay tablets to stop this and ask if there's anyone here who has?

Alternatively did anyone manage their period on their wedding day and how did you go? The thought of a heavy period in a white dress is making me nauseous.

I tried it once and honestly it made me feel and look awful: stomach bloated to the extent I looked pregnant and felt so tight and uncomfortable. I think that’s a pretty common side effect.

Tranexamic/Mefenamic Acid might be a preferable option - they lighten the flow.

TrySinging · 02/07/2019 10:14

I've taken it. I don't remember a holiday I've had where my period hasn't been due the day we leave! It made me a very grumpy bastard though, so for me it's period vs being in a bad mood now, so period usually wins. In your case though, I think I'd take it.

imnotcooking · 02/07/2019 10:14

Took them when I went to Portugal 2 years ago they worked but had quite a heavy period after I stopped taking them. Worth it though at least you haven't got to worry about it then.

JennyCarrots · 02/07/2019 10:15

I've used it twice before holidays and didn't have any side effects whatsoever.

imnotcooking · 02/07/2019 10:15

Forgot about the grumpiness!! I was horrible on my holiday kicked my boyfriend at the time out of the apartment for embarrassing me at dinner! 🤣

TheRLodger · 02/07/2019 10:17

I’ve taken to stop periods which have been known to go on for at least a month. No massive side effects just some weird dreams.

However, having spoken to some friends who have also taken I think I’m in the minority as they’ve had some much worse side effects

Tigerbandage · 02/07/2019 10:17

My teenage daughters taken it in the last 2 holidays we went on and got it again for this year
No side effects or problems at all

Artesia · 02/07/2019 10:18

I have awful periods, so took it a few years ago to delay it while I was on holiday. It was horrendous- like the worst PMT ever, for the whole trip. DP has begged me never to take it again as it made me, and everyone around me, miserable. Have just started on tranexamic acid to reduce the flow, and it’s a game changer. Really light period, and no side effects.

Hiphopopotamous · 02/07/2019 10:19

I used it for my wedding/honeymoon, but it gave me spots! Make sure you take good care of your skin for those wedding photos

picklemepopcorn · 02/07/2019 10:20

Do you have time to practise beforehand? Have you got a couple of cycles to check?

Tranexamic Acid is great at lightening the flow and making it manageable.

I've used norethistone for years, always seem to be due when we go camping, swimming, holidays etc. Never had any trouble, though it's hard to work out when the next one will be.

FuckOffPeriod · 02/07/2019 10:21

This tranexamic acid, where would I get it? Will I have to see the GP?

I'm not too bothered about having a heavy flow after I stop taking it, I'd much rather that than have it on the day but don't want to be grumpy! Although I usually am any way when I'm on.

I have around two months to go and due on in about a week, should I practice this month and see?

cdlaivfifd · 02/07/2019 10:24

I took noerthisterine daily over the course of about 2 years, never had any problems with it. I would stop taking it for a week or so if I was off work and not doing much, otherwise I took it every day.

cdlaivfifd · 02/07/2019 10:25

I would try and get some for this month yes, No harm in trying.

koolaider · 02/07/2019 10:25

Yes practice. I've taken it before and had no side effects. Good luck!

Oh and if you delay this next period will it knock the next one back the same amount of days as well? Can't remember if it does that?

PotatoCity · 02/07/2019 10:26

If it’s just for your wedding day, I’d take the norethisterone. If it’s to delay it though a long honeymoon too I’d see the go about possibly tranexamic acid.

I took the norethisterone for a holiday last year, and found that the start of the week was fine but by the end I had such awful bloating I looked literally 6 months pregnant. I also had no libido! Still preferable to the period though for me.

Tranexamic acid I know works brilliantly for some, but personally I’ve found that it took a couple of months to really work for me, and then when it did I’d have light flow for the 3 days I was meant to take it but then it got really heavy again at what would usually be the end of the period, so I think the same amount came out just over a longer time!

Alabasterangel6 · 02/07/2019 10:26

I’ve used it. If I had to again I would suggest getting a prescription sharpish and delaying this month by 7-10 days, thus then throwing your next cycle 7-10 days further on too. Same result but no pills/side effects on the important days. You may have no side effects but if you do you’re minimising the risk of them interfering the month before?

Alabasterangel6 · 02/07/2019 10:27

And if you do you need to get it soon - you need to start it 3 days before you are due.

PotatoCity · 02/07/2019 10:29

Oh yes I would take it for 10 days this month definitely, as your next period will then be due 28ish days after the delayed one (or whatever your normal cycle is) so you won’t be due on the wedding date any more!

NannyRed · 02/07/2019 10:30

I’ve used it in the past. No noticeable side affects. It’s just like taking the contraceptive pill for a few days.
Have a lovely wedding.

FuckOffPeriod · 02/07/2019 10:31

That's interesting!! I wonder...

I think I will order some today from the pharmacy and give it a go this month.

I have used it a couple of times for holidays/important events and had no troubles at all!

Though the idea to try and delay your upcoming period long enough so the one due on your wedding is moved back is not a terrible idea. Though may not go 100% to plan!

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 02/07/2019 10:32

I used it a couple of years ago to avoid getting my period on holiday. No side effects, no period, no problem!!

FuckOffPeriod · 02/07/2019 10:33

If I did have to take it for the wedding I was planning just stopping the day after (so not taking the full 10 days) as we aren't going on honeymoon straight away or anything so don't mind being on afterwards.

I will def try it this month though and see if it throws my cycle off. Hadn't thought of that but it makes total sense. I just have a standard 28 day cycle!
