Period due on my wedding day FFS!

Has anyone ever taken Norethisterone before to delay their period? Did it work? Did you have any awful side effects?

I've just realised that I'm due on my period on my bloody wedding day!!

They are usually heavy too so I can't be doing with the stress of it on that day.

WIBU to consider taking period delay tablets to stop this and ask if there's anyone here who has?

Alternatively did anyone manage their period on their wedding day and how did you go? The thought of a heavy period in a white dress is making me nauseous.

I took it for my wedding reception. We got married away and had that a few weeks after.

Going on holiday in 2 weeks and will be taking it again as period due.

I didn't have any side effects at the time. The next period was heavier though. But worth it.

Deuxcaggages · 02/07/2019 11:58

They still mess with your cycle. I read a lot of reviews of it before taking it and a lot of reviews stated that it took a while for their period to reappear and for their cycle to get back to normal. Your period doesn’t just start as soon as you stop taking it.

greytminds · 02/07/2019 11:58

I hated it. Raged away for days, felt bloated and awful. I’d avoid messing with my body again to be honest.

Billballbaggins · 02/07/2019 11:58

I took norethisterone or however you spell it, I bought it from an online pharmacy and it was fine, no side effects and all fine after I stopped taking it

Mirali · 02/07/2019 12:00

I took it for my wedding and honeymoon as i had spotting with the pill. It was ok at first but then on my honeymoon i had dreadful nausea and could hardly eat.

someoneontheinterweb · 02/07/2019 12:02

I worked out several months before my wedding that I was due to be on the last few days of my period on our wedding day. Since my mood swings are awful on any hormonal contraceptives I had been off the pill for a long time and wouldn’t have considered taking hormones to delay it, so I starting googling natural methods. I figured that if I delayed one months before then my cycle would change enough to not be on for the wedding.

Obviously nothing worked, and the stress of it caused me to be a couple of days late rather than delaying by longer, meaning that I was on a heavier day rather than towards then end when the day came around. I used a mooncup and pads, and had my sister take a bag with extras. I had access to the toilet in my sister’s hotel room rather than using communal cubicals. I remember being gutted that I wouldn’t get to have sex on my wedding night (on heavy days it really is off the cards for us) but in the end I guess it took the pressure off as we were shattered by the time we went to bed. It was annoying, but not the end of the world and it didn’t ruin anything.

sleepylittlebunnies · 02/07/2019 12:05

I took it at 11 and 12 to not have my period on holidays. It worked and I had no side effects, was probably too busy having fun to notice if I had. I remember stopping it the day we got back and coming on the next day. Period was a bit clotty but soon went to normal for me.

I was so relieved my mum took me to the doctor to sort it as I didn’t like the idea of tampons then and a 5-6 day period on my holiday would have stopped me swimming and being in a swimsuit full stop.

NeverSayFreelance · 02/07/2019 12:08

I have no advice but omg this is my worst nightmare. I think if you can take period delay tablets then absolutely go for it.

FuckOffPeriod · 02/07/2019 12:12

this is my worst nightmare

I know, so bloody annoying!

I have heavy periods usually but am fortunate that my symptoms are never too bad. I could deal with being on if I didn't have the constant worry of leaking but I just know I wouldn't be able to relax especially being in white all day!

PotatoCity · 02/07/2019 12:15

To add, my period afterwards came on about 3 days after stopping the pills, and it was a bit heavier than usual but within the bounds of normal for me. My cycles went straight back to normal the next month, and I got pregnant 2 months later so didn’t affect fertility for me either.

SureTry · 02/07/2019 12:18

I've just been prescribed this as I've started to have heavy periods with flooding, along with dizzy spells. I've read reviews on it & in all honesty, I'm quite scared about taking them 😔

NeverSayFreelance · 02/07/2019 12:20

@FuckOffPeriod I completely get it. Way back when I wore a white dress to my school prom and got my period on the same day. My periods pre-pill were ridiculously heavy and I was up and down like a yo-yo to the bathroom changing pads. It's the worst.

I agree with the cycle shorts idea though! I started using swim shorts when I was on and it helped a lot.

mustdrivesoon · 02/07/2019 12:59

I have very heavy periods and was due it right in he middle of our first holiday in years and years.

I took the norothistone as directed and I was super careful. I'm sure I remember setting an alarm for every 8 hours so I wouldn't forget. It worked brilliantly. No spotting or anything. Period started 3 days after taking last tablet. No bloat or other side effects apart from some very mild cramps. No painkillers needed or anything.

I was married yonks ago when periods were relatively normal. I had it on my wedding day and it was a nightmare. Convinced I had leaked, got it on my dress when changing pad or tampon, etc. I wish I knew about the magic that is norethistone back then!

Littlehouse156 · 02/07/2019 13:10

For wedding day I would cope with whatever side effects it threw at me!

Booboo66 · 02/07/2019 13:12

I always used to take it for holidays and no side effects apart from a heavier period when you stop taking it which it worth the pay off

FuckOffPeriod · 02/07/2019 13:13

I've just ordered some so going to give it a whirl this month and see what happens!

I don't want to take the full 10 days, will I be okay to stop before that's up? I just want to postpone it for the one day!

OP posts:
QuickQuestion2019 · 02/07/2019 13:36

Can you go on the pill instead and just not take a 7 day break? That works perfectly

Schuyler · 02/07/2019 13:43

Poor you, OP. It’s like cancel the cheque, people aren't reading that you can’t take the contraceptive!
Good luck and hope it doesn’t affect you wedding. Flowers

HelloImStressed · 02/07/2019 13:44

OP has said a few times already that she doesn't want to take any hormonal contraceptives including the pill.

Watching with interest, I've never tried it but go on holiday in a few months so I may try myself.

MrMeSeeks · 02/07/2019 13:48

Ive had to use it twice due ti health reasons an i was fine, no side effects.
Then went straight on the pill or injection so had no period at all!

MrMeSeeks · 02/07/2019 13:49

I only took it enough to stop the bleeding, it didnt start Again before i went on contraceptives.
I would absolutely take it again.

TabbyMumz · 02/07/2019 13:54

Why not just take the pill continuously? Ie no gap?

FuckOffPeriod · 02/07/2019 13:57

It’s like cancel the cheque

@TabbyMumz, if you aren't going to read the full thread at least read the OPs posts. She has said numerous time why she won't/can't take the pill.

Branleuse · 02/07/2019 14:49

i dont know if it helps, but i think the second half of my HRT is norithisterone, and I was getting side effects from it, but ive found if i take it at night its mostly fine, so if you do take it, maybe take it before bed
