Period due on my wedding day FFS!

Has anyone ever taken Norethisterone before to delay their period? Did it work? Did you have any awful side effects?

I've just realised that I'm due on my period on my bloody wedding day!!

They are usually heavy too so I can't be doing with the stress of it on that day.

WIBU to consider taking period delay tablets to stop this and ask if there's anyone here who has?

Alternatively did anyone manage their period on their wedding day and how did you go? The thought of a heavy period in a white dress is making me nauseous.

I'm currently on it now whilst on holiday. Taken it many times and feel it's a lifesaver.

You may feel a little bloated but if you're gonna be in your dress it should be fine.

Thertruthisoutwhere · 02/07/2019 15:18

Ive taken it loads with no side affects.

And yes you can "move" your period, did that for my wedding day too!

lunicorn · 02/07/2019 15:18

I've found that a new very vigorous exercise regime sometimes delays my period by a month.

kb1992 · 02/07/2019 15:18

I took it as I was due on my period on my wedding day and it was absolutely fine! Worked a treat

akmum18 · 02/07/2019 15:46

Can you temporarily go on the pill to hopefully stop them coming for a while? Hope you sort it and have a lovely wedding day

FUneighbour · 02/07/2019 15:48

I've taken them before for holidays with no side effects. But the last time the doctor would only give me a certain amount so I didn't have enough for a three week holiday. Something to bear in mind if you have a honeymoon after and don't want to come on.

Animum2 · 02/07/2019 15:56

By the time dh reminded about doing anything to stop them for the wedding day it was too late anyway

Never had I been so happy when my period arrived 10 days before I got marriedSmile

Mine over the past two years have been consistently inconsistent maybe it's the srtar of the change idk

FuckOffPeriod · 02/07/2019 16:25

No, I can't do this.

Maybe the stress of the whole thing will stop them anyway 😅

OP norethisterone is hormonal.

SoupDragon · 02/07/2019 17:39

norethisterone is hormonal.

But it's only taken for a short time. Far shorter than the contraceptive pill.

onanothertrain · 02/07/2019 17:53

Ibuprofen stops my period if I take maximum dose, obviously you need stomach protection as well.

FuckOffPeriod · 02/07/2019 18:05

OP norethisterone is hormonal

I know but the point is I want to take it for the least amount of time possible. If I were to start the pill I'd have to be taking it for much longer for it to be effective.

My plan was to literally postpone the period for the day of the wedding and stop taking the tablets the day after. We aren't going on honeymoon straight away so I don't care if I come on the next day or a few days after just not the day Sad

I was due on on my wedding day so took Norethisterone to delay it and had no side affects. I usually react badly to hormonal contraception so was a little worried but worked well for me and no bloating.

PeonyPink0 · 02/07/2019 18:52

Can’t you take it for an earlier period to alter your future cycle dates?

MyCatHatesEverybody · 02/07/2019 19:49

You don't need to take all 10 days worth of tablets, basically 10 days is a week's delay (i.e the 3 days before your period's due then 7 days actual delay).

ComeTheFuck0nBridget · 02/07/2019 19:57

I've taken it, the period itself was very heavy and painful but only lasted a normal amount of time, and it's worth it to not be on for your wedding

FuckOffPeriod · 03/07/2019 09:45

Thank you! Got some coming on Friday so will see how it goes 🤞

I was due on my wedding day and took it. I had no side effects, it worked, I had a perfect day. I stopped taking it a couple of days before the end of our honeymoon, I can't even remember why I didn't just take it through to the end!

Megan2018 · 03/07/2019 09:58

I took it when we were doing a road trip holiday-long driving days across the alps with rare toilet stops would not have been fun!
No side effects, no issues and it didn’t impact on my cycle.
I can’t take the pill but this was fine.

CoraPirbright · 03/07/2019 10:02

onanothertrain how do you take it? I am due on holiday and don’t necessarily want to stop my period but to make it lighter would be brilliant. Do you take it in the days leading up to the period or once it starts? I cant seem to find this info on the web...

onanothertrain · 03/07/2019 10:27

cora I start taking it the day before or morning of day my period is due. 400mg or 600mg three or four times a day. I always take it with food and ranitidine for stomach protection

teenmum18 · 03/07/2019 10:35

Ahhh I've got a wedding to go to on Saturday and I've started spotting today which means my period will be in full flow tomorrow 🙈 wasn't due on until Monday 🤬 if I buy this stuff from the chemist will it stop it straight away? I've got a lilac dress to wear and I don't fancy be anxious and self conscious all day thinking I've leaked through 🤦🏻‍♀️ someone help. Will it work?

kb1992 · 03/07/2019 13:17

You have to take it for about three days before your period is due so if you've already started then it probably won't work

Holycrapster · 03/07/2019 13:27

Tranexamic acid from boots has worked for me the two times I have tried it. I usually have horrendously heavy periods but I managed to spend a day trekking in shorts without any issues one holiday and another year had a fun day at a water park with no concerns It was quite miraculous. I didn't have any side effects but I did get water infections after both times if taking it. My water works are notoriously rubbish though and I couldn't see anything about this being a side effect...
