Period due on my wedding day FFS!

Has anyone ever taken Norethisterone before to delay their period? Did it work? Did you have any awful side effects?

I've just realised that I'm due on my period on my bloody wedding day!!

They are usually heavy too so I can't be doing with the stress of it on that day.

WIBU to consider taking period delay tablets to stop this and ask if there's anyone here who has?

Alternatively did anyone manage their period on their wedding day and how did you go? The thought of a heavy period in a white dress is making me nauseous.

Brilliant! Thanks onanothertrain

eighteenandaching · 03/07/2019 13:42

I had my period on my wedding day! It was maybe day 3, so not really a big deal.

IsoscelesSandwich · 03/07/2019 13:45

I took it for my wedding day. If there were any side effects I was too distracted to notice!

MyKingdomForACaramel · 03/07/2019 13:49

Take it as directed - it’s like the pill in that everyone is different - I had to take it on and off for about two years (I’d previously had the implant and literally bled for 18 months so my doctor decided I needed it). When I stopped it would come on almost straight away.

So don’t try and “game it”. Just take it up to and including the day of your wedding

SP26 · 11/09/2019 19:24

Ive stopped taking Norethisterone since sunday. Its Wednesday and still not had my periods.Anyone know how long it takes to get your periods after stopping the tablets?

TriciaH87 · 11/09/2019 19:34

Speak to gp may be worth asking them to prescribe pill or something just for a month.

MorganKitten · 11/09/2019 20:09

I use it all the time and have been fine

Debrons · 11/09/2019 20:14

Theres a product you can buy over the counter at boots for helping stop heavy periods. Cytok something. I'll try and find the link for you. Its in a purple packet. Start taking as soon as your period starts.

They work for me. Make a heavy period really light and manageable with the super tampons

womenspeakout · 11/09/2019 20:17

I have Endometriosis, so it means I literally cannot leave my house when I'm on my period. I'm very heavy, sick and in so much pain.

I've used this quite a lot, otherwise I'd miss an awful lot of things, and take it over Christmas holidays if needed.

I've not had any bad experiences, the first couple of times my period was even worse when I came off of it, imagine how much pain I already have, it was so bad, and I've had large clots afterwards. Now I think my body is more used to it occasionally.

I've never had any spotting or anything on it.

ShellieEllie · 11/09/2019 20:18

I've used it numerous times as have my DDs when we were due on during holidays - no issues whatsoever. Was prescribed tranexamic acid tablets for heavy periods some time ago but it did absolutely nothing for me.

EmmaGellerGreen · 11/09/2019 20:19

I had a nightmare with it. Started taking it before we went away and started bleeding heavily after 2 days. Stopped taking it then and had a hideous period 3 days later.

Cantina · 06/03/2020 18:02

Dear OP, I'm about to have the same problem, I'm 5 weeks from my wedding day and period is due day before. I have adenomyosis and excruciating heavy periods on day 2 so it's my worst nightmare. How did it work for you in the end?

mencken · 06/03/2020 18:28

doesn't matter what happened. Everyone has different body chemistry so other people's experiences with drugs are of no value. MN really does need to learn that.

you've left it a bit late but see if you can get the pill. Should have thought of this months ago, I'm afraid - that's why the bride choose the wedding date. That said, periods that are more than a minor inconvenience really need medical help anyway.

Likethebattle · 06/03/2020 18:35

I’ve taken it twice with no side effects at all. My periods are painful and heavy (they were even worse as a teen and used to last 11days with severe pain on the first day) and was always due when going on holiday.

Likethebattle · 06/03/2020 18:36

@mencken read the thread the OP is undergoing fertility treatment so doesn’t want the pill!

Peacenquiet2 · 06/03/2020 18:45

Why don't you take cerezette for a few months? When is the wedding? I started on that 12 months ago and not seen hide nor hair of a period since, not even spotting and no side effects, plus it helped all the awful hormone rages and emotional off days I was starting to have. I was having very heavy, long periods prior. Best thing I've ever done going on that.

DimplesToadfoot · 06/03/2020 18:50

@Likethebattle

I'm sure the op will be happily married by now. I could be wrong but it looked to me like Mencken replied to Cantina who has reopened this ghost thread.

VerbenaGirl · 06/03/2020 18:52

My teens both took it for our hols last year with no side effects. It was a real help actually.

Cantina · 06/03/2020 19:05

@mencken thank you for the warm welcome Wink
I have a prescription for norethisterone already and just like OP, don't want to take the pill for a multitude of reasons. I also did think of it months ago, have been thinking about it every month and my last period was longer than usual and messed up my predictions. I just wondered what OP's experience was as someone in very similar position

Cantina · 06/03/2020 19:09

Will just have give it a go, apologies for reopening a ghost thread.

sweetheartyparty · 06/03/2020 19:13

I've just taken it this weekend. It worked perfectly with limited side effects. I had some cramps but that's it really. I would take it again

DimplesToadfoot · 07/03/2020 03:12

@Cantina

I know it was me that first mentioned the reopening of this thread and I hope it's not me that caused you to apologise. It wasn't my intention to make you feel like you needed to :-(

I didn't say anything about your predicament as I've never been in you're position so have no idea how to help you.

earlydoors42 · 07/03/2020 07:29

I took it and had no side effects, but the one after was quicker, as if my body was trying to put me back where I should have been.

LazJaz · 07/03/2020 07:46

Take the pill and run two packs together. Start taking it now?
