Period due on my wedding day FFS!

Has anyone ever taken Norethisterone before to delay their period? Did it work? Did you have any awful side effects?

I've just realised that I'm due on my period on my bloody wedding day!!

They are usually heavy too so I can't be doing with the stress of it on that day.

WIBU to consider taking period delay tablets to stop this and ask if there's anyone here who has?

Alternatively did anyone manage their period on their wedding day and how did you go? The thought of a heavy period in a white dress is making me nauseous.

If I tried it this month, I'll still have another period in between now and the wedding so I can see if my cycle has moved.

Can you take the pill just for a couple of months ?

EarlGreyOfTwinings · 02/07/2019 10:39

tranexamic acid gives me horrendous pains, I don't know why but I 'll never take that crap again. It seems quite useful for many other people though, but be warned of possible side effects.

EarlGreyOfTwinings · 02/07/2019 10:39

i'd go for the pill too!

Nousernameforme · 02/07/2019 10:41

YY if you have a couple of months just take the pill continuously until after the wedding

Morgan12 · 02/07/2019 10:43

I'd take the pill aswell.

louise5754 · 02/07/2019 10:45

What contraception are you on? I've had 3 implants and they stopped my periods. The coil made them much worse x

Wixi · 02/07/2019 10:45

I was on the pill when I got married and just took it without break, so that I didn't have a period that month.

cavalier · 02/07/2019 10:46

the joys of being a woman lol

Purplecatshopaholic · 02/07/2019 10:46

I have taken it and it was a game changer. No side effects at all either. Have a fab wedding

Janleverton · 02/07/2019 10:46

Dd is taking the pill when she goes trekking for a month this summer. She’s tried it for about three months including one month without the week off for a period. I think norethisterone has to be taken really rigidly for it to work - which for dd was going to be tricky with time differences and travel.

HouseworkAvoider10 · 02/07/2019 10:47

Why not go on the pill for a few months?

yellowbluepurple · 02/07/2019 10:50

I’ve taken it numerous times over the years and haven’t had any side effects. It always changes my cycle, so I would take it this month as someone mentioned above in case you’re one of the people who does suffer from side effects.

MargotsFlounceyBlouse · 02/07/2019 10:51

I'm taking it right now! I think I'm a bit bloatier than normal but otherwise it's fine.

PeoniesarePink · 02/07/2019 10:51

I'd go on the pill instead and just don't take a break that month.

Branleuse · 02/07/2019 10:51

it will delay your period, but you will probably still get PMS.

IveNotSlept · 02/07/2019 10:51

Can’t you just go on the pill for a couple of months (if you’ve taken it before and know you are ok on it)? I’ve always avoided periods on holiday that way. I think I’d prefer that than trying something I haven’t had any prior experience with.

IWriteCode · 02/07/2019 10:53

Go on one of those BC pills that you can take continuously?

FuckOffPeriod · 02/07/2019 10:53

Okay so for those asking why I can't just take the pill, me and DP have spent the last couple of years at the fertility clinic at the hospital due to miscarriages. I stopped all hormonal contraceptives in this time obviously and have now not been on them for over 2 years, I'm due to start some other medication to help with this problem later this year and it's the reason we have moved the wedding forward.

I don't want to take the pill as I want as little hormonal contraceptives as possible in my body before we start the process. Hence why I prefer the idea of just taking these tablets for a couple of days rather than consistently for months iyswim.

I use primolut it delays it for as long as you want. You take 1 tablet 3 times a day. You start 3 days before you are due. The minute you stop taking it you get your period that day or the next. You can change your due date using this the month before hand. You stop taking it on the date you want to change your cycle to. So say you don't want a period till 31st Aug, you stop taking it July 31st or even Aug 1st. That way you won't have any side effects. Although I don't get side effects on this one but know many who do.

FuckOffPeriod · 02/07/2019 10:55

If I could get my cycle to change by taking it this month that would be ideal. I can deal with any side effects in the months before the wedding rather than on the day that way!

I think I'll give it a try.

I've taken norethisterone several times to delay my period. Just stopped at the weekend as I didn't want it while I was away.

Side effects - this time I did get one evening where I was in a really bad mood and tearful.

Usually after I've finished taking them I get a bad headache.

Apart from that it's been fine.

It does say to start taking them a few days before your period starts but a couple of times I've taken them the first day of my period (because it's turned up early) and it's still stopped it, though I've had spotting for a few days, but that's better than a flood!

Pinkwink · 02/07/2019 10:55

Taken it twice because my period was always due around my birthday and I didn’t really want that obviously!

No nasty side effects whatsoever, I loved it.

LegionOfDoom · 02/07/2019 10:58

I took mine for my wedding because we were honeymooning the next day. It was fine, I luckily didn’t have any side effects part from a little bloating the first two days. I did have quite a heavy period after though

bolshevik · 02/07/2019 10:58

I had this too. I got prescribed the tablets but in the end I decided not to take them. I wore a pad on the day just in case but in the end it didn't turn up for another three days so worked out perfectly.
