To feel the rage with “teacher tired” posts

The season of teachers posting SM messages “no one knows tired like an end of term teacher/TA/dinner lady” is almost upon us.

I want to scream, what about the fuckers who work stupid hours all week and don’t get 6 weeks off in the summer, half term, two weeks Easter, two weeks at Christmas.

I wouldn’t be a teacher for all the tea in China but these people chose their career.

Grrr, actually don’t care if I’m BU.

Just to say I am a teacher and I am knackered! This year I have had Ofsted and two lots of year two moderation which meant I had to give up four days of the last half term to prepare for. I was behind on reports so spent the last two Saturdays in school doing them.

Never mind, this week I just have 60 children going to Littlehampton on Friday to prep for while finishing their tie dyeing so they can start to sew their buttons on. Week after we have reports in, Sports Day and Parents Evenings.

I will be in the first and last weeks of the holidays at least to tidy then prep for the new year.

Yes I am knackered but I do still love my job. My class are tired too so it may need to be a session of designing and making sorbets if it gets too hot!

Piggywaspushed · 30/06/2019 18:28

I am interested that someone with a username like yours bemoans 'competitive whinging* !

Piggywaspushed · 30/06/2019 18:29

Sorry,that was to Sisyphus !

cherriesandoranges · 30/06/2019 18:32

Totally agree. I'm sick of listening to some(not all) teachers moaning about having to work long hours.....till 5pm. These are the kind of teachers I don't want teaching my kids!!! There's always the option of a different career!

SachaStark · 30/06/2019 18:34

@cherriesandoranges, lolololol, what teachers do you think finish at 5pm?! When the fuck do you imagine books get marked?!

noblegiraffe · 30/06/2019 18:36

I think that all these people wanging on about ‘whinging teachers’ can’t possibly know how dire the situation is in schools.

They probably think that because there is an adult stood in front of their child every day that it must be a qualified teacher.

THE COUNTRY DOESN’T HAVE NEARLY ENOUGH TEACHERS TO TEACH ALL THE CLASSES ESPECIALLY IN MATHS AND SCIENCE, AND THE SITUATION IS GETTING WORSE AND WORSE.

Piggywaspushed · 30/06/2019 18:37

I finish before 5 most days (usually before 4), having got to work at about 7.45. That's a good 9 hour day I do. Hope that's OK with you cherries. I presume I pass muster.

Wonder where it is you are hearing all these teachers moaning. The only people I moan to are fellow teachers as I assume no one else understands, or cares.

cherriesandoranges · 30/06/2019 18:39

@SachaStark eh between 3-5? And my comment was referring to my own personal al experiences of which the teachers mentioned 5pm. So yes that's when they are marking.

cherriesandoranges · 30/06/2019 18:41

@Piggywaspushed I work 12hour days and don't moan, it's the profession I choose. If I get sick of it I'll leave and do something else. I won't bore the world with my moaning!

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 30/06/2019 18:42

These are the kind of teachers I don't want teaching my kids!!!

I bet your kids' school would love to have you on their interview panel. Grin

cherriesandoranges · 30/06/2019 18:44

@YourSarcasmIsDripping I'm sure it would be helpful. No school wants to employ teachers who moan out with about their job. It's bad PR and unprofessional.

herculepoirot2 · 30/06/2019 18:46

There's always the option of a different career!

Indeed.

Who is going to teach your children when all the moaning teachers have left?

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 30/06/2019 18:47

Mhm mhm... would you be happy with your kids being taught by a TA instead (we moan too)? It's already happening due to lack of funds and the retention crisis, why not add extra requirements too?

cherriesandoranges · 30/06/2019 18:47

@herculepoirot2 hopefully more professional teachers. It's very competitive to get into teaching and there wouldn't be a shortage where I live anyway.

noblegiraffe · 30/06/2019 18:48

It's very competitive to get into teaching

You’re not in England then?

cherriesandoranges · 30/06/2019 18:49

@noblegiraffe no

BelindasGleeTeam · 30/06/2019 18:50

Clearly this poster knows sooooo much about the UK education system rolls eyes out loud

SrSteveOskowski · 30/06/2019 18:50

YANBU OP. I've got a friend like this. She's a secondary school teacher and the secondary school's here (Ireland) get THREE MONTHS off every summer. They finish at the end of May and don't go back until the end of August/start of September.

Yet, I (and the rest of our friends) constantly have to listen to how hard she has it and how exhausting her job is.
Yeah, because those 21 days holidays I get every year make me whoop with glee Hmm

Piggywaspushed · 30/06/2019 18:52

cherries, you miss my point. I was asking where you had actually heard all this alleged moaning .

cherriesandoranges · 30/06/2019 18:54

The teacher friends I have who don't moan are the ones who worked in other careers beforehand. They appreciate the shorter days and long holidays and also make the most of all the free time. Travelling across Europe in the summer etc. They work hard like everyone else. Just without the moaning!

Piggywaspushed · 30/06/2019 18:54

You still have not answered my question!

cherriesandoranges · 30/06/2019 18:55

@Piggywaspushed friends, friends of friends, some family members etc.

cherriesandoranges · 30/06/2019 18:56

@Piggywaspushed wow we're not in class now lol give me a chance to type

butterflywings37 · 30/06/2019 18:58

Just out of interest @cherriesandoranges what shorter days do your teacher friends do?

noblegiraffe · 30/06/2019 18:59

Maybe, cherries given that there is no shortage where you are, moaning teachers are just moaners.

Maybe in England, where there is a dire shortage, moaning teachers might have a point.
