To feel the rage with “teacher tired” posts

Rainbowsandglitterbullshit · 28/06/2019 18:26

The season of teachers posting SM messages “no one knows tired like an end of term teacher/TA/dinner lady” is almost upon us.

I want to scream, what about the fuckers who work stupid hours all week and don’t get 6 weeks off in the summer, half term, two weeks Easter, two weeks at Christmas.

I wouldn’t be a teacher for all the tea in China but these people chose their career.

Grrr, actually don’t care if I’m BU.

noblegiraffe · 01/07/2019 18:27

Noble how was your day?

A doss, tbh Grin I’m a part timer, it’s the only way I’m still in the job. Tonight I have Y10 exams to mark though.

DuckWillow · 01/07/2019 18:40

cherries

Sounds fab...do tell me when you plan to take up teacher training. After all those holidays are an amazing amount and they only work 8.45am until the children go home at 3.15pm!

They then spend all evening at leisure don’t they?

So either....you are too thick to realise that teachers work hard (in which case you wont be able to train).

Or you are being deliberately stupid.

I suspect the latter.

Bumper1969 · 01/07/2019 18:50

Without fail everyone who moans about teachers has had a crap time at school and will not get over it ime.

Gth1234 · 01/07/2019 18:50

I thought annihilate (annie - hill - ate) was a word, until it dawned on me when I was about 10,11,12 what it really was. Science fiction adventure stories.

My mum always advised ne to go the picture-skew way, when I travelled.

fedup21 · 01/07/2019 18:54

The core hours are tricky one though, aren’t they because that’s only what people ‘see’ you working. I would say my core hours are actually

7.30-5.30

So...

7.30-8.45-: That gives me an hour and a quarter before the children walk in to set up resources-photocopy, sort tables, find and set out equipment etc

3.30-5.30-: at least 15 minutes waiting with kids whose parents haven’t shown up, quick tidy the tables and a wee (4pm), marking (usually one set of 30 literacy books, one set of 30 maths books and 30x a pm topic piece). Allow for 1 minute per piece (which would probably put you at risk of capability for not being thorough enough!), that’s an hour and a half taking me to 5.30.

I would say those were my core hours. I wouldn’t be able to do my job if I don’t spend the time doing those things every day. I would expect my SLT and the parents of my class to be rightly cross if I didn’t do these things-they are expected and form the core part of my job.

Then, staff meetings, phase meetings, parents evenings, doing displays, assessments and data entry-which I would also argue are core activities.

‘Extras’ would be properly planning (I wish that could be actually completed during PPA!) sourcing activities and resources, SEN paperwork, prepping for trips/festivals/assemblies/concerts/curriculum days and the myriad other things that happen in schools.

It’s like looking at an actor and saying-‘he’s only on Eastenders for 3 x 30 minutes a week. That’s just the performance-there is so much more going on behind the scenes that absolutely has to be done.

For what it’s worth, I’m not moaning but this is what happens. People say things like this

however teachers...have shorter "core" working hours. (Fact) That's the part that makes people have less sympathy for them - rightly or wrongly!

I object, that those are NOT my core hours, and...I’m accused of moaning.

cherriesandoranges · 01/07/2019 19:05

@DuckWillow I never once said teachers don't work hard. Read the posts before you become hysterical on here. I'm merely trying to explain why some people may not be interested in hearing teachers moaning.

cherriesandoranges · 01/07/2019 19:06

@fedup21 no the core hours are the ones you're contracted to do.

cherriesandoranges · 01/07/2019 19:07

@fedup21 albeit you will undoubtedly work more - as per most jobs unfortunately

cherriesandoranges · 01/07/2019 19:15

@ClaryFray I have yet to meet a teacher who spends their 6 week summer holidays in the classroom. I have 2friends who are heads and spend a week max in the school. I'm not saying it doesn't happen but it doesn't seem to be the norm in the area I live in anyway (not with my other teacher friends who live in the south of England)

Piggywaspushed · 01/07/2019 19:18

That is a basic misunderstanding of how teachers' contracts work.

MsRabbitRocks · 01/07/2019 19:28

Okay cherriesandorranges, do you have any friends who are police officers? Genuinely interested in what you think re: the fact that they actually have more time off than teachers, get paid overtime and don’t have to work in their own time (unless they are studying for heir initial exams) and they post many links on social media about how tired and fed up they are etc. Would that annoy you as much and why?

(Disclaimer, the above is not what I think at all but I could equally put FACT after each point like cherriesandoranges does)

cherriesandoranges · 01/07/2019 19:35

@MsRabbitRocks none of my police officer friends moan about their job, hours and certainly not on social media. That wd be unprofessional

noblegiraffe · 01/07/2019 19:35

cherriesandorranges, do you have any friends

You could basically stop there, MsRabbit

LolaSmiles · 01/07/2019 19:39

piggywaspushed
Misunderstanding teacher contracts is a running trend in such threads.

I've never known people have such a weird obsession with contracts for jobs they don't have.

Piggywaspushed · 01/07/2019 19:42

Well my police officer friends do! And my DSIS has like police medals and everything! Goodness knows how with her lack of professionalism.

Piggywaspushed · 01/07/2019 19:43

Feel the need to belatedly sound irony klaxon.

cherriesandoranges · 01/07/2019 19:43

@noblegiraffe You lose the battle when you have to resort to silly pops. And you are teaching our children? It's no wonder education is in the state it's in. You are exactly what is wrong with teaching in this country!

cherriesandoranges · 01/07/2019 19:44

@Piggywaspushed I answered the question didn't I. Maybe you have unprofessional friends and I don't. Who knows. Who cares!

Piggywaspushed · 01/07/2019 19:46

Ah, I see. I shall let my sister know she is unprofessional. She may come round to arrest you. Just to show she leaves no stone unturned in her pursuit of justice.

LolaSmiles · 01/07/2019 19:49

Cherries
I think any poster loses the battle when they turn up on a thread with the pure intent to goad others and making pointless comments on their ability to do their job, whilst making sweeping generalisations about a profession.

Piggywaspushed · 01/07/2019 19:49

I imagine sillypops to be something a teacher might say to little ones. Oh Noble, who's been a bit of a sillypops, today? Let's go and get you cleaned up

cherriesandoranges · 01/07/2019 19:50

@Piggywaspushed eh ok. You've been on this post for about 36hours so maybe time you get some rest as you're becoming a little hysterical Smile
