Rich people = same car

To wonder why all the loaded people at my kids’ school drive the same car - Range Rover/ Land Rover? Surely there are more choices to spend money on?? They are like sheep!

It's not "rich people", it's "aspirational trying to keep up with the Joneses" people Grin

The most wealthy people I know drive a mixture of old bangers - and really nice cars. Not range rovers on finance!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 25/06/2019 17:15

It’s the same round here. I’ve never been in a Range Rover so maybe they’re some kind of incredible aladdin’s cave, but I think it’s more likely they’re a status symbol tacky people use to flash their wealth.

NameChangeNugget · 25/06/2019 17:15

It’s up to them what they spend their money on surely?

Unfinishedkitchen · 25/06/2019 17:16

Let them spend their money in what they want. Are you upset because you can’t afford one?

SoupDragon · 25/06/2019 17:16

🙄

Disfordarkchocolate · 25/06/2019 17:18

When I win the lottery I will buy a Maserati, I'm sure I will look 'new money' but I don't care. I don't get the Range Rover love either.

nonickno · 25/06/2019 17:18

Of course it’s absolutely none of my business and I’m not jealous, I just find it fascinating.

They are high up roomy cars with good safety features for kids, personally don't have 1 but thats the main reason people buy them!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 25/06/2019 17:19

Because they want to show off. Its a status thing. I have this thing therefore I am rich.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 25/06/2019 17:20

Its the high school equivalent of carrying round your pe kit in a Jane Norman carrier bag.

Trafalger · 25/06/2019 17:20

I agree with Earlgrey the richest people I know have 10 year old cars and just pootle around in them. The truly wealthy don't need to show off their wealth. It's the wannabes that have the flashy cars. I have an old banger but no money either Grin

Pipandmum · 25/06/2019 17:21

There are trends in cars like anything else. Rangerivers are the in car now. It used to be big estate Volvos.

Pipandmum · 25/06/2019 17:21

Range rovers even.

Expressedways · 25/06/2019 17:22

They’re actually quite nice cars- a relative has one because he has to have something swanky as he drives clients around and they need 7 seats for the family so it ticks their boxes. I’ve driven it a few times and aside from parking (major stress as it’s massive), it’s a lot nicer than my VW!

Passthecherrycoke · 25/06/2019 17:22

There are plenty of old banger range rovers knocking about. What wouldn’t there be? They’ve been making them for decades

Al203 · 25/06/2019 17:22

Its seeking validation. Look here is my entry ticket to middle class dom.

Posters who say the really wealthy do not drive expensive cars are right. Some do, but the majority have no insecurity and do not need validation. That is true wealth.

LastChanceFinalOffer · 25/06/2019 17:22

They're buying a type of lifestyle. A bit like staging a house before putting it on the market.

EarlGreyOfTwinings · 25/06/2019 17:24

I don't think the OP means the Ranger Rovers that are actually driven on paths and are often caked in mud. It's more the "shiny-I wannabe Kim Kardashian/ Kate Middleton" ones that are funny Grin

When you see how less and less reliable they are, and how much they cost in petrol, it's an odd choice, but it's a good indicator of what school to avoid for your kids Grin

legolife · 25/06/2019 17:25

Their just trying to keep up with the Joneses and living in a fantasy land. I'm sorry but if you have to finance a car..your not rich. If you can walk into a showroom and buy it outright then your well off Wink

BullBullBull · 25/06/2019 17:25

Inverse snobbery at it’s finest

LaurieFairyCake · 25/06/2019 17:26

Well I think they're a bit rich even on finance Grin

My friend pays ÂŁ1500 a month for one - I think that's quite a lot

YesQueen · 25/06/2019 17:27

They're popular 🤷🏽‍♀️ I work for the brand. Keeps me in a job

bigbeans · 25/06/2019 17:27

I have one GrinI used to have a white one (oh, the horror!) now I have a black one, très sophistiqué Rodney!

I have one because it's super comfortable for the long (5hr) journeys I have to do regularly, I love the look of it and DH gets a great discount on certain makes of cars. So it was this, a Mercedes or an Audi.

bigbeans · 25/06/2019 17:28

Yup @BullBullBull

flowerycurtain · 25/06/2019 17:28

Laurie fairy cake - that's ridiculous!!!
