I'm on the cusp of starting to make and sell my own handmade ice cream at farmers markets etc and I'll be selling from a traditional style ice cream bike. I don't do 'standard' flavours, so you'd find flavours like Eton Mess, Peanut Butter & Caramel or Rhubarb Crumble, plus a vegan flavour / sorbet.

Recipes are developed and tested, kitchen is being modified to keep environmental health happy and the bike is awaiting delivery. But - I need a name for my business! Without it I can't set up my website etc...

I need something that suggests

  • premium quality
  • something that's a bit different to the norm
  • possibly a hint at the environmental / zero waste ethos

I'm in Wales but I've been avoiding place related names as I want the option to expand in future, and I can't be certain that the business will always be bike-based so I've been avoiding explicitly bike-related names.

Possibly something like Creamery, The Scoop, The Project, The _ Ice Cream Co but I'm very open to suggestions! Help please hivemind...

Do you plan on eventually expanding into other foods, OP? You might want to take that into consideration, when naming your company.

If you have words in mind to describe your business, try putting them into an online thesaurus. That’ll give you more ideas.

There’s an amazing gelato chain in London called Scoop so I’d avoid that.

Incorporating eco and luxe into naming can be tricky so it’s worth looking at other companies who’ve done it. It’s good to look at synonyms for words you do like. Something like virtuous could be a good starting point.

You may also want to avoid something literal - invent a word or use something random (like moonpig did!).

Sometimes looking at available URLs is a good way round to do it. Look up domain name generators and add in a word you like.

I’d avoid creamery or dairy if you’re doing vegan options

Possibly, in the future - but I'd anticipate ice cream staying as the backbone of the business - perhaps an ice cream parlour that does a brisk trade in coffee and cake in the winter.

What's your name/surname? What are your USPs? Where do you make it?

Think about ice cream brands you know. Hagen Daz, Ben and Jerry's, Carte For, Halo... These are not twee plays on words.

ReturnofSaturn · 25/06/2019 12:23

Eco Ice
Friendly Ice

Whathappenedtothelego · 25/06/2019 12:23

Your flavours sound delicious!

What about "green" - the Green Creamery, or the Green Scoop?

You'd then have a colour scheme, green and cream, maybe use a green and cream cow a a logo?

ErrolTheDragon · 25/06/2019 12:24

I was thinking of The Real Scoop.

FurFoxSake1 · 25/06/2019 12:24

Just looking up other brands on Waitrose: Kelly's, Mackie's of Scotland, Green and Black's, Walls....

Get my point?

MoMandaS · 25/06/2019 12:25

Ethical Icicle

IsolaPribby · 25/06/2019 12:26

How about Posh Scoops?

FurFoxSake1 · 25/06/2019 12:26

Beechdean, Yeo, Booja-Booja...

What about an anagram of your name?

I would do a massive brain dump of all the words associated with your business - nouns (place, house name, local area etc) and adjectives. Ingredients, tastes, USPs and go from there.

CaptainButtock · 25/06/2019 12:27

“These are not twee plays on words”

FurFoxSake1 · 25/06/2019 12:27

And yes, completely agree with pp - look at domains, and social media handles. Mash up your brain dump words into new ones
