I'm on the cusp of starting to make and sell my own handmade ice cream at farmers markets etc and I'll be selling from a traditional style ice cream bike. I don't do 'standard' flavours, so you'd find flavours like Eton Mess, Peanut Butter & Caramel or Rhubarb Crumble, plus a vegan flavour / sorbet.

Recipes are developed and tested, kitchen is being modified to keep environmental health happy and the bike is awaiting delivery. But - I need a name for my business! Without it I can't set up my website etc...

I need something that suggests

  • premium quality
  • something that's a bit different to the norm
  • possibly a hint at the environmental / zero waste ethos

I'm in Wales but I've been avoiding place related names as I want the option to expand in future, and I can't be certain that the business will always be bike-based so I've been avoiding explicitly bike-related names.

Possibly something like Creamery, The Scoop, The Project, The _ Ice Cream Co but I'm very open to suggestions! Help please hivemind...

The Honest Ice Cream Co.

The Truthful Scoop

Ethical Ice Cream Co.

The Good Cone / The Good Cone Co

I quite like The Good Cone Co. personally. Doesn't single out vegans etc and has a touch of eco too it.

'nice cream' as someone suggested suggests it's all vegan as that's a play on the frozen bananas blitz into nice cream. Calling it ethical creamery, technically the two don't go hand in hand and how would you prove ethical credentials?

I'd go for play on words 'the ice queen' , 'Dairy Godmother' 'freezing point' 'the vanilla bean'.

SunshineCake · 25/06/2019 14:40

That's good WonderTweek if the sticks bit was illustrated with a flake !

FlatPackPat · 25/06/2019 14:41

I disagree regarding using a play on words for the name. It does not say high end to me at all, it just sounds gimmicky and cringey in my opinion.

There’s a reason people pay a lot of money to professionals to create a name and brand. You’ve had some silly suggestions on here OP, but you’ve also received some free gems on here from a few professionals.

Who then get berated for suggesting the silly names some have come up with are completely off brand.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 25/06/2019 14:50

I'm crap at coming up with names but I think you just need to keep it simple and we need to know from the name what it is you're selling.

VivienneHolt · 25/06/2019 14:54

Bloody hell thats a leap, incidentally a very sneery one. Offering someone ideas and constructive advice is not slapping them down.

I don’t know if you’re just feeling a bit defensive now, but if you really think the ‘advice’ about flavours on this thread wasn’t sneery I would suggest you’re a poor judge of how you come across to others...

I think it should be simple - how about Cone

I quite like Buttercups too but anything relating to dairy may affect ability to sell dairy-free / vegan products.

I like the natural theme though - forests, meadows, streams, trees, leaves etc, lots of inspiration to be had there. Juniper Creamery, Acorn Creamery, Oak Tree Dairy, anything that sounds natural and lovely. Pick something that’s in your garden or town, or something that conjures up lovely homemade imagery (think about rustic, farmhouse, kitchen table), scientific / lab stuff if you want to be experimental, or just a single word that signifies cold (Polar).

Or you could make really decadent, naughty ice creams and call it Vice - very hipster 😂

Doesn’t have to relate directly to ice cream, especially if you plan to expand later. In fact I wouldn’t. Most important thing is to make sure you can get good domain names and SM handles for whatever you choose (eg. No hyphens or weird extensions!)

If in doubt, picture it for sale in Waitrose or even Fortnum & Mason. If it wouldn’t fit in, choose something else.
