I'm on the cusp of starting to make and sell my own handmade ice cream at farmers markets etc and I'll be selling from a traditional style ice cream bike. I don't do 'standard' flavours, so you'd find flavours like Eton Mess, Peanut Butter & Caramel or Rhubarb Crumble, plus a vegan flavour / sorbet.

Recipes are developed and tested, kitchen is being modified to keep environmental health happy and the bike is awaiting delivery. But - I need a name for my business! Without it I can't set up my website etc...

I need something that suggests

  • premium quality
  • something that's a bit different to the norm
  • possibly a hint at the environmental / zero waste ethos

I'm in Wales but I've been avoiding place related names as I want the option to expand in future, and I can't be certain that the business will always be bike-based so I've been avoiding explicitly bike-related names.

Possibly something like Creamery, The Scoop, The Project, The _ Ice Cream Co but I'm very open to suggestions! Help please hivemind...

I think something normal like Pitter Patter's fine ice cream. (Obviously hope your name irl is more appropriate than Pitter Patter). I like the word 'fine' and is does suggest luxury and quality.

I'm not nit-picking but I also don't think the flavours are unusual at all. They are very normal in plenty of ice cream Parlours. (As you are in Wales, check out the ice cream shop in Beaumaris).

Could you come up with a few more 'out there' flavours that go well together?

VivienneHolt · 25/06/2019 13:57

It bloody was sneery!

And it wasn’t constructive criticism either - the OP clearly stated she had done her research and tested the flavours. She specifically asked for advice on the name. There was no need for anyone to come along and say ‘your flavours are common, you’re much less unusual than you think’, and the only reason people did so is because on mumsnet people love to act like posters have ideas above their station and slap them down for it.

SeaToSki · 25/06/2019 13:58

I.scream. With the e made to look like a cone or lots of small mmms at the end

But you need to check for company names and domain names that are already taken before you

adaline · 25/06/2019 13:59

People aren't being sneery, they're giving their opinions!

Nobody said they were horrible flavours, or unpleasant ones, or ones that wouldn't sell, they just said they're popular favours already!

Ice on a bike

Walkerbean16 · 25/06/2019 14:04

Naice ice Grin free ice creams for MNers.

No idea just wanted add creamery sounds rude to me.

RickOShay · 25/06/2019 14:04

I LOVE Polar Bear Poo.
Brilliant idea.

Kit30 · 25/06/2019 14:04

Can't beat Ginger's Comfort Emporium - a Manchester Legend and
not a 'twee' flavour in the van!

SunshineCake · 25/06/2019 14:06

Actually, I was trying to save the OP the embarrassment of marketing her business as one with unique or unusual flavours only to discover that actually they are quite common now 🤷‍♀️

Sarcelle · 25/06/2019 14:06

The Sunshine Ice Cream Company
Blue Sky Creamery
Happy Days Ice Cream

Ehthical Licks - on second thoughts, no!

Iltavilli · 25/06/2019 14:09

Agree with @Kit30 - Ginger’s Comfort Emporium is legendary and has a name which doesn’t suggest ice cream.

Plays on the word ice etc seem cheap. Although creamery isn’t bad (and I only have dairy-free). People will follow quality not a silly pun.

Celebelly · 25/06/2019 14:10

Pretty sure OP wasn't claiming she had pioneered these flavours. Just that she's not selling vanilla, chocolate and strawberry with sprinkles out the back of a Mr Whippy van.

MsMustDoBetter · 25/06/2019 14:10

Luxe Creamery

Flake & Ripple

Waffle & Ripple

Ice Maiden

Lord Fudgeson - Purveyors of Fine Ice Cream

SegregateMumBev · 25/06/2019 14:12

Naice Ice is genius! And Ice on a Bike. Smile

My favourite is Buttercups, as it has the capacity to cover other products.

Snowden Ices

Through the Looking Glace

Glace Palace (Or Palace of Glace)

Glace Slipper

Olaf and Elsa's (not that Disney will let you away with any branding that refers to them)

Velo de glace

RubberTreePlant · 25/06/2019 14:17

Churn.

Or something name based.

ThatCurlyGirl · 25/06/2019 14:18

the only reason people did so is because on mumsnet people love to act like posters have ideas above their station and slap them down for it.

Bloody hell thats a leap, incidentally a very sneery one. Offering someone ideas and constructive advice is not slapping them down.

OP can you hand out some ice cream because some people need to chill!

In all seriousness hopefully this thread has given you some handy advice and got you excited about coming up with a plan for the business. Those of us who took the time to share advice did so to support you not make you feel bad - promise!

Thanks

La Baratte (French for churn)

SmellbowSmellbow123 · 25/06/2019 14:22

@ErrolTheDragon

The hufen iâ ice cream co?

I'm afraid that wouldn't work well outside Wales

It would if the op is starting out small in Wales. Eitherway, I think I favour the suggestion of Polar Bear Poo!!

Guardsman18 · 25/06/2019 14:25

Corddi something? Although I don't like churn (sounds a bit like being sick!)

I like Ice on a Bike - genius!

federationrep · 25/06/2019 14:27

All of my favourite ice cream shops are named the family name of the founder with a couple of exceptions. These are First Name's Milk Bar and Area Name Milk Bar. Would a name that suggests direct link to farm & therefore a fresh, local, low food miles product work?
The Milk Parlour
the Milk Barn
Byre Creamery
your first or second name Dairy Ices
Farm Name ice Cream
Milk Churn Ice Cream
