I'm on the cusp of starting to make and sell my own handmade ice cream at farmers markets etc and I'll be selling from a traditional style ice cream bike. I don't do 'standard' flavours, so you'd find flavours like Eton Mess, Peanut Butter & Caramel or Rhubarb Crumble, plus a vegan flavour / sorbet.

Recipes are developed and tested, kitchen is being modified to keep environmental health happy and the bike is awaiting delivery. But - I need a name for my business! Without it I can't set up my website etc...

I need something that suggests

  • premium quality
  • something that's a bit different to the norm
  • possibly a hint at the environmental / zero waste ethos

I'm in Wales but I've been avoiding place related names as I want the option to expand in future, and I can't be certain that the business will always be bike-based so I've been avoiding explicitly bike-related names.

Possibly something like Creamery, The Scoop, The Project, The _ Ice Cream Co but I'm very open to suggestions! Help please hivemind...

I agree with @Furfoxsake1
I find these twee play on name words a bit cringey and not very premium sounding.
I think a normal name is better - would your name work?
Harrisons fine ice creams
Patricia’s Parlour (not sure about that one!)

pancaketits · 25/06/2019 13:18

Don't like the word creamery, especially if you're plugging a a vegan option / sorbet.

The Ethical Creamery sounds like a fair trade wank to me - sorry.

Consider other options for cold - frosty, chilly, etc...

Izzycles?

ThatCurlyGirl · 25/06/2019 13:22

I also think @adaline is correct re flavour combinations:

Sorry to break it to you OP, but those flavours aren't that rare. All the ice-cream shops near to me sell flavours along those lines.

Sorry if this sounds negative, just important to be aware of I think.

Good luck OP running a start up is terrifying and daunting but so gratifying when everything comes together SmileThanks

adaline · 25/06/2019 13:24

I also think it's important for ice-cream shops to sell normal flavours as well as more experimental sounding ones, btw.

Lots of small children like plain flavours such as vanilla, strawberry and chocolate, and you really don't want to go down the route of excluding families because you've gone for things that are over-complicated.

And as an adult sometimes nothing beats a plain creamy vanilla ice-cream!

lazylinguist · 25/06/2019 13:29

Calling it ... creamery surely wouldn't make people assume the company wouldn't sell vegan stuff or sorbet? I mean, you can buy plenty of vegan ice creams which are still called ice cream and therefore have 'cream'in the name.

livefornaps · 25/06/2019 13:33

Cream yer pants ;)

VivienneHolt · 25/06/2019 13:34

Why are people sneering about the flavours? It’s not like someone’s going to say ‘the Eton mess sounds delicious but it’s clearly derivative of that ice cream parlour in Brighton so I won’t be having any’.

They’re obviously out of the ordinary compared to the basic flavours. OP wasn’t claiming they’re totally new - just not run of the mill.

Faez · 25/06/2019 13:34

For some reason "creamery" really makes me cringe and it sounds unhealthy. I like Errol's suggestion, "The Real Scoop"

Butterfly98 · 25/06/2019 13:34

The Ice House or The Ice Hut

SunshineCake · 25/06/2019 13:36

Except they are mainly run of the mill now..

Divgirl2 · 25/06/2019 13:37

Big Cwtch Creamery

adaline · 25/06/2019 13:38

They’re obviously out of the ordinary compared to the basic flavours.

But they are basic flavours now. They're not flavours you can't get in any ice-cream parlour in the country. There are three ice-cream shops in the tourist town I work in and they all sell the flavours listed in the OP.

It's not a criticism as such, but the flavours aren't really that out-there.

Maybe so, but the supercilious commentary about them just smacks of people wanting to gleefully put OP in her place

OP is the one who said they weren't standard flavours. Other people were just stating their opinion.

Butterfly98 · 25/06/2019 13:44

I'm not keen on the creamery word either, for me it conjures up an image of butter or thick sludge! Bizarrely, names of businesses can put people off as I know a family when away on hols and they're looking for somewhere to eat, if they don't like the name of restaurant they won't try it, crazy really as the food could be fantastic!

Morgan12 · 25/06/2019 13:46

fikel · 25/06/2019 13:50

I think where you’re from is a strong marketing plus. Good luck!
Glamorgan glacé?
Snowdonia Sundae?
Don’t like creamery either

ThatCurlyGirl · 25/06/2019 13:51

I don't think anyone has sneered with glee, they took time to offer constructive advice to help the OP.

I've put my money where my mouth is and run a PR and marketing business for five years. Have also worked with numerous start ups and big brands for over 10 years and thought it would be helpful for OP to have some advice. Don't think the worst of everyone - your message was pretty sneery saying people must be doing "less than" the OP. Not being a yes man doesn't make you a naysayer.

OP if it came across to you as sneery too then apologies but personally I was trying to offer genuine advice.

AhoyDelBoy · 25/06/2019 13:52

Oh geee, there are some really terrible suggestions here. I can see now how people come up with such stupid business names 🙄

I liked the ‘buttercups’ suggestion though but agree with the PP that it might need to be an obvious name initially to attract clientele.
