To think this is a bit gross?

Visited friend today, and had lunch. While there she fed her cats and I noticed their bowls were identical in pattern to the plates we had used, and after she loads our plates with their bowls in the dishwasher. When I exclaimed that it was gross to mix them she told me the cats used bowls from the family set and the whole lot got put together but it's ok because she uses a hot wash on the dishwasher. I am vegetarian, and while I know when I eat out the plate I use has had meat on it at some point no doubt, this has made me totally heave and I think cat food and a cat eating from the same crockery as everyone else is just gross! I assume not dangerous, but maybe?
Won't be going there for lunch again 🤢🤮

Fucking hell, that's grim!! Totally with you OP. I don't care how allegedly 'sterile' the dishwasher makes it. Just no.

Bobbiepin · 09/06/2019 19:24

Considering the cat licks himself and then you stroke it I'm not sure it is that gross.

BlueMerchant · 09/06/2019 19:25

YANBU. Awful.

MummyParanoia101 · 09/06/2019 19:25

That's revolting. Dishwashers often miss bits. Please correct her

I have no problem with it all going in the machine. But find it odd they don't have dedicated pet bowls.

BabySoupDragonsMummy · 09/06/2019 19:26

It is gross. Disgusting. Who on earth does that.

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 09/06/2019 19:26

I do this with my cat. YABU IMO

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 09/06/2019 19:26

Wouldn't bother me.

Shockers · 09/06/2019 19:26

It wouldn’t bother me, as long as the crockery was washed after each use and not left for multiple feeds.

luckybird07 · 09/06/2019 19:26

yeah our dog licks all plates before they go in a dishwasher- I do not think we are unusual so you may be better off not eating at freinds' places if they have pets.

luckybird07 · 09/06/2019 19:27

my husband would french kiss our dog ( he loves her that much)if he thought I would not react and that would be unreasonable.

Neverender · 09/06/2019 19:28

The dishwasher practically boils the dishes - what are you worried about exactly? I wouldn't have even noticed.

Likethebattle · 09/06/2019 19:28

Wouldn’t bother me, is a human eating off the cutlery or plate worse than a domestic pet?

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 09/06/2019 19:29

I think it's more likely for the dog to catch something from your husband than vice versa Grin

Bwekfusth · 09/06/2019 19:29

Wouldn't bother me. As long as the dishes are fully scraped, same as you would scrape dishes humans had eaten off so there aren't any chunks of felix floating around the dishwasher. Dishwashers are boiling.

InsertFunnyUsername · 09/06/2019 19:29

Grim, i don't understand people who let pets lick "clean" their plates/cutlery either.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 09/06/2019 19:29

I've heard mumsnetters say they put their loo brushes in the dish washer. After that anything else seems tame.

LarryGreysonsDoor · 09/06/2019 19:29

What are you so afraid of?

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 09/06/2019 19:30

Can anyone articulate the grimness! I'm curious in case I shouldn't be doing this for any reason Grin

Justgorgeous · 09/06/2019 19:31

Vile.

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 09/06/2019 19:31

Ours go in the dishwasher but the cat's not using my nice crockery!

Drogosnextwife · 09/06/2019 19:32

I don't see a problem with ut 🤷‍♀️

Babyduck2 · 09/06/2019 19:33

Wouldn't bother me, my pets (cats and dog) have their own bowls, but will often have the last of my milk from cereal, or the dog will sometimes have some left over meat or whatever off my plate. One of my cats is partial to the last bit of tea in a cup so drinks that at any chance he gets. It all gets washed up so I don't see the problem!

SunnyGirl12 · 09/06/2019 19:35

It grossed me out because the idea of cat food being clogged in the dishwasher and swimming around with the other plates... My dishwasher is crap and leaves bits on, what if the next plate I get has a bit of cats food still on it? Also cats catch rats, birds, mice, lick themselves, then lick the plate and if the dishwasher isn't amazing my food is on it next!
To am extent I know alot of it is my own mind working against me, but still it is gross!

Nah wouldn't bother me.

I did do to a friends house for dinner once and the cat litter tray was right next to the dinner table full of shit. That was grim.
