Size 16 with a really horrible overhang/ apron belly. I have lovely bikini tops from Bravissimo but usually wear them under a tankini but it gets so hot on holidays! Would you??

If you will be comfortable and confident, go for it. Personally I am not comfortsble even having my legs showing anymore... i have gone from wearing bikinis to swimsuits, to skirted swim suits to a pair of waterwear capris and this year I found swim leggings and a long sleeved swim suit so I look like a scuba diver crossed with Shamu, and probably get more notice for it, but I feel better to keep all my blobby bits tightly tucked out of sight.

PositiveVibez · 07/06/2019 00:18

Omg wear it. Beach body means you go to the beach and you've got a body!!!! Why the hell shouldn't you!

Northernsoulgirl45 · 07/06/2019 00:21

Go for it.

Sunnydays365 · 07/06/2019 00:56

Definitely get yourself a bikini..it's very liberating. I actually read a thread similar to this about 3 years ago on mumsnet which was about larger ladies and bikinis and it gave me the confidence to just go for it. Try www.leialingerie.com .
Freya bikinis fit lovely. I'm size 20 36ff

Wear what you want and are comfortable with, that is all that matters. Smile

KittyWindbag · 07/06/2019 01:14

Life is short. Please wear what you want and enjoy yourself.

Do it!

I have gigantic boobs (34jj) so had to buy bikini tops in size 22 this year (thank you Tesco!!!)

Also have an overhang so got high waisted tummy control black bikini bottoms to go with all the tops I got. Doesn’t look bad at all!

ememem84 · 07/06/2019 06:11

How to get a bikini beach body:

  • have bikini.
  • put on body
  • go to beach.
  • that’s it. You’re done.

Just bloody wear the bikini. If you feel confident enough to do it then do it.

I agree next has some ace bikinis right now and a lot with roll top bottoms.

Also M&S have some fab patterns and colours.

I kept my Maternity tanking bottoms (roll top) as if I unroll them they’re high waisted so on days where I don’t feel so confident I have an option.

Do it!! Love yourself!

Are you on Instagram or Facebook? Check out Jess on the plus size, she's an incredible body positivity ambassador (and on holiday right now so lots of swimwear)

KnickyKnackyNooNoo · 07/06/2019 06:19

I'm a 14 and I've bought a bikini for Florida this summer. Go for it!!

AphidEater · 07/06/2019 06:23

Yanbu. You don’t owe it to anybody to look any particular way in a bikini. You don’t have to be thin to dress the way you want. Bikinis are not a reward granted to some people for having a particular body type.

Sweetdreamer93 · 07/06/2019 07:28

It’s about time we embraced our bodies and feel proud of all they carry us through.

We should stop feeling we have to conform to some unrealistic body ideal.

Life is short people - Enjoy it!

Kenworthington · 07/06/2019 07:53

Ok someone upthread said about us not posting pictures of us with our tums out. That was the only photo I could find with me with my top on! So I went back a year before and found this one. Wobbly, blobby and wearing a bikini AND having. An amazing time On a Lovely holiday

Gorgeous!

Ragwort · 07/06/2019 08:11

Rather sad that someone who is a size 14 seems to think they are ‘big’.
As (nearly) everyone else says, go for it, there’s nothing worse than watching self conscious women (who are usually a skinny size 8) creeping around in their bikini, being neurotic about having body hair, full make up on etc etc. Just be comfortable, you are there to enjoy the sun and swimming you are not an object to be looked at.

SallyWD · 07/06/2019 08:12

I don't and I'm a size 12. My friend is a size 20 and she feels very comfortable in a bikini! It's all about how you feel.

Kenworthington · 07/06/2019 08:13

Ah thanks. Just to add though, I’ve photos from 10 years ago on the beach with the kids when I was a couple stone lighter wearing a full swimsuit and kaftan and looking all the awkward and unconfident that I felt. It’s a state of mind I guess. Seeing much bigger people in bikinis being confident gave me confidence. I’m fat, I have fat, I will look fat no matter what I’m wearing. But at least now I can do it with a smile. Wear the bikini op, I promise no one will even look or notice or care!

Jeezoh · 07/06/2019 08:17

Wear it!! Everyone has hang ups and there will always be someone who looks better and worse than you, but I bet many are all equally wondering if they should have covered up.

letstryanewone · 07/06/2019 08:45

@Kenworthington @JaretsGirlfren you both look amazing!!

Oblomov19 · 07/06/2019 08:47

I have always worn a bikini. When I was smaller, post pregnancy, everything. Never cared.

Sicario · 07/06/2019 08:48

Hell yes! You go right ahead and wear whatever you bloody well like. I do and I'm in my late 50s with a muffin-dough body and massive gazongas that have fed babies and frightened postmen.

Go for it. You're fabulous. We all are.

Ilikeyourbeard · 07/06/2019 08:50

@kenworthington

I was too busy smiling at your contagious happy as fuck grin to even notice anything else. Well done you!

omione · 07/06/2019 08:53

Wear what you like honey, other people dont take you into consideration when they they dress so why should you consider them ? Enjoy the sun

JaretsGirlfren · 07/06/2019 09:02

Thank you everyone for the compliments! Smile
