Yes, even in a pissing wet west of Scotland.

The poor madrilenos who are having to put up with their beautiful central square being taken over by a crowd of chanting yobs. I'm sure individually, most football fans are decent blokes. But put a group of them together and they start chanting, whooping, "singing", clapping, pointing and jeering.

It's just AWFUL.

You haven’t lived!!
What an atmosphere i’m devastated I’m at home and not there.
First final I’ve not been to in 15 years AngrySad

Saucery · 31/05/2019 18:45

Looks hideous, doesn’t it? There are many, many people there including families, but the yobs chanting......bleeurgh.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 31/05/2019 18:46

I can think of one or two places I'd much rather not be than on Madrid tbh. Wink

I guess it depends how much you like football - I don't particularly so it wouldn't appeal. But then I don't suppose most people's idea of heaven is sitting next to a racetrack in Belgium... Grin

DanielRicciardosSmile · 31/05/2019 18:47

*in Madrid, not on.

DonkeyHohtay · 31/05/2019 18:55

Well I'd probably prefer Madrid to downtown Aleppo or the slums of Lagos. Obviously.

But the chanting.... it's like these perfectly sane men (and it's always men) regress to being Neanderthals.

LtJudyHopps · 31/05/2019 18:57

Because they’re chanting? God forbid they support their team!
I’m in Spain, I would give almost anything to be in Madrid. Definitely anything to be at the game tomorrow!

Biffsboys · 31/05/2019 19:04

I just came home from Madrid on Monday - they were getting everything ready , screens up and a 5 aside pitch laid . I wish I was still there and I don’t like football ..
Remember it will bring a massive amount of money to local business owners .

ludog · 31/05/2019 19:05

Dd lives in Madrid, wish I was there this weekend, I'd say the atmosphere is unreal!

Rach182 · 31/05/2019 19:07

I'd love to be there, the atmosphere must be amazing. And Madrid are used to it since they host one of the biggest football teams in the world so no need to feel sorry for the locals.

SunsetOverEasterIsland · 31/05/2019 19:09

Why are they 'yobs singing'? How very disrespectful. These are family men and women who are showing passion, spending hard earned money supporting their football teams. Many, if not most, have been unable to gets tickets due to UEFA's ridiculous ticket allocations to both teams and just want to revel in the fantastic atmosphere. Madrid is a football mad city, well used to major events. Singing is a big part of supporting your team and the Liverpool fans singing 'You'll never walk alone' before a big game is awesome. If football isn't your thing, not a problem but please do not be disrespectful to those supporting their teams. Please save your 'yob' comments for if there are any incidents, which hopefully there won't be (and then I'd agree with you about those involved). Come on Redmen - lets bring this home YNWA Smile

hammeringinmyhead · 31/05/2019 19:10

YABU. You should see the state of Madrid or Barcelona when they win a trophy. I got picked up and crowdsurfed in Barcelona in 2006.

twojackrusselsandamoggie · 31/05/2019 19:27

Madrid is perfectly set up for tonight. The rivalry between Barcelona and Madrid is legendary, so they can cope with a bunch of English footy fans going a bit football crazy!

ilovesooty · 31/05/2019 19:28

I'd love to be there if the team I support had made the final.

Icandothisallday · 31/05/2019 19:29

I am sure the people of Madrid are ok with having one noisy night in exchange for all the cash that will be spent.

LagunaBubbles · 31/05/2019 19:30

Why does singing and chanting make them "yobs"? What an awful snobby attitude.

LagunaBubbles · 31/05/2019 19:31

Football is turning into the new Facebook, something to look down on and act superior about. Hmm

Ohnotanothernamechange · 31/05/2019 19:39

Singing and chanting makes them yobs? And not all football fans are 'blokes' either. I know many women who are diehard football fans.

How stuck up and superior you sound OP.

NotACleverName · 31/05/2019 19:42

Singing = yobs now? Next time just say a) you hate football and b) that you're a massive snob, OP.

Brefugee · 31/05/2019 20:08

if you don't get it, you don't get it but there's no need to sound like a superior snob about it.

They'll all have a lot of fun, the cafés and bars and so on will make a load of money.

YABU

DanielRicciardosSmile · 31/05/2019 20:12

I know plenty of women who are massive football fans and will happily chant along with the best of them, so it's definitely not always men.

As I say, it wouldn't personally appeal to me - when I've gone along to the pub to watch a match I've usually ended up on my phone as I find the game somewhat boring - but I imagine that, if you're a fan, the atmosphere there will be awesome.

TheAngryLlama · 31/05/2019 20:14

What - you’re all ok with our behaviour cos we’re shoving you a load of cash??
I’m not sure it’s the anti football posters who have the snotty attitudes here.

Conks · 31/05/2019 20:14

Sick of some mumsnetters reaction to football. It’s pure snobbery.

Songsofexperience · 31/05/2019 20:15

But the chanting.... it's like these perfectly sane men (and it's always men) regress to being Neanderthals.

You're doing the Neanderthals a great injustice! They had the bigger brains and apparently only lost to the Sapiens because they weren't as genocidal.

DonkeyHohtay · 31/05/2019 20:18

It's not the football. DH is a football fan and will be watching the game tomorrow night.

It's the pictures of large tribes of young men, drinking beer, being loud. chanting, jeering, whooping. The fact that they're there for a football match is irrelevant. It's the same atmosphere as a stag do or something.

OP posts:
Freshprincess · 31/05/2019 20:19

I have friends there with their families. They've posted a video and it looks like they're having the time of their lives. They're far from 'yobs', They're huge Liverpool fans gone to enjoy the atmosphere.

Save your snobbery judgement for IF some actual yob behaviour happens.
