Yes, even in a pissing wet west of Scotland.

The poor madrilenos who are having to put up with their beautiful central square being taken over by a crowd of chanting yobs. I'm sure individually, most football fans are decent blokes. But put a group of them together and they start chanting, whooping, "singing", clapping, pointing and jeering.

It's just AWFUL.

I was in Madrid July 2010 when they won the world cup. What a joy!
No bare beer bellies in sight though..

GibbonLover · 31/05/2019 20:20

Goodness me, you'd think football was only played at the Wanda Metropolitano once a year or something! What do you think happens when Inter play Real? Over at the Bernabeu, do you think El Classico games are quiet and solemn, supporters forming an orderly line to walk up to the stadium?

Madrid is a footballing city and I feel sure residents, business owners and police are well used to it.

PS. ALLEZ ALLEZ ALLEZ!

TheAngryLlama · 31/05/2019 20:21

Why is the objection labelled snobbery? Football is far from being solely a working class pursuit these days. The price of participation sees to that.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 31/05/2019 20:25

I'm not a snob, just not a football fan. As I said, I'm sure loads of people would detest going to a race, doesn't make them snobs either. To each their own - everyone should be free to enjoy doing what they love.

Rockbird · 31/05/2019 20:25

A friend of mine has gone to soak up the atmosphere. She's in her mid 40s and a lifelong Liverpool fan and the furthest from a yob that you can imagine. She is in absolute heaven just being there. I wouldn't fancy it but I'm all for anyone following their passions no matter what they are.

Rockbird · 31/05/2019 20:26

To add, you should live in a certain racing town in the SE today. The 'ladies' day produces anything but.

Lana1234 · 31/05/2019 20:29

“Whooping” hahah god forbid 😂 I’m a scouser (evertonian unfortunately haha) myself so no Madrid isn’t the place for me but I know people who have gone and they are just families going to watch a game of footy and soak up an incredible atmosphere

crazyasafox · 31/05/2019 20:34

YABU, and grumpy.

And judgy and snobby.

Ohnotanothernamechange · 31/05/2019 20:44

I've just looked at the footage and all I see is people in football shirts having a good time?

chartymap · 31/05/2019 20:51

My dh there atm. I got the opportunity to go with him and turned it down. I wish I hadn’t now. The videos he’s sending me from the plane and thereafter look good fun!

chartymap · 31/05/2019 20:52

Oh and dh is very middle class earns 6 figure salary for those that judge ... but is very happy with the atmosphere coming from people from all walks of life?!

Ravenesque · 31/05/2019 20:53

@Songsofexperience , I watched a lovely documentary about them last night and said to my friend "Oh I hope I have some Neanderthal genes!" (maybe that should be on the wankiest things you have said thread!)

I'd love to be there, lifelong Liverpool supporter and the atmosphere must be fantastic.

They'll all be gone by Sunday so you won't have to wish you were somewhere else for long. I bloody love Madrid. I have a friend who lives there and it's ages since I've been. I miss it. One of my favourite cities.

Rafflesway · 31/05/2019 20:53

The atmosphere will be amazing.

Don't worry about the locals. They are WELL used to mad football fans.
Real Madrid have won the C.L. for the past 3 years. They certainly didn't celebrate with a Costa Coffee. Grin

You should try being there for a Classico match - Real Madrid v Barcelona. Spurs and Liverpool fans are nothing compared to El Classico build ups. 😂

Jaxhog · 31/05/2019 20:53

It isn't simply the chanting or even the drunken yobby behaviour I suspect. It's that the OP was expecting to enjoy some spanish culture and , instead, got a bunch of drunken yobs that prevented her from doing it. I'm sure some of you enjoy this, but many of us don't.

MrsCasares · 31/05/2019 20:56

OP - confess. You’re a United fan, aren’t you?

Rafflesway · 31/05/2019 20:58

Charty you turned down the opportunity to go???

Amanduh · 31/05/2019 21:01

‘The poor madrilenos’ erm OP, have you been to Madrid when it’s a big Real game for example?
You are talking absolute tosh.

cricketballs3 · 31/05/2019 21:04

The weekend of an advanced planned and advertised champions league final (the final was always going to be there tomorrow night no matter who was contesting it)

skippy67 · 31/05/2019 21:12

I used to live in Madrid. The city is well used to big football matches. Football is massive there! So yeah, YABU.

Boysey45 · 31/05/2019 21:22

Well its a total load of shite really.

GreyofSunshine · 31/05/2019 21:30

It doesn't sound like OP is actually in Madrid?

IncrediblySadToo · 31/05/2019 21:31

It's the pictures of large tribes of young men, drinking beer, being loud. chanting, jeering, whooping

God forbid they’re having a good time.

Turn your Tv off, have your cocoa & a nice early night. Tomorrow watch Gardeners World instead. 🤷🏻‍♀️

HattieHoe · 31/05/2019 21:32

GrinGrin well shouldn't have gone there THIS weekend then because this was always going to be final weekend

SimulationTheorist · 31/05/2019 21:34

It's really not snobby to think the vast majority of football fans are drunken, disrespectful louts.

SimplySteveRedux · 31/05/2019 21:39
