Yes, even in a pissing wet west of Scotland.

The poor madrilenos who are having to put up with their beautiful central square being taken over by a crowd of chanting yobs. I'm sure individually, most football fans are decent blokes. But put a group of them together and they start chanting, whooping, "singing", clapping, pointing and jeering.

It's just AWFUL.

You have obviously never been in Madrid when Real or Athletico have a european night, or pretty much any big day of football, or is it specifically because it is two english teams going that they turn into "yobs".

CostanzaG · 01/06/2019 09:20

God forbid groups of men (young or old) go out and enjoy themselves!

Drinking, singing, chanting .....sounds like the spice girls concert in Manchester the other night. 🤷
But if course because it involves football they're all yobs.

Disgraceful snobbery.

Parvuli · 01/06/2019 09:23

Well I cba with football at all as a rule but my DH is a lifelong Spurs fan and he’s going to be ecstatic if they win. Even though he’s going to the pub with DSS to watch it I’ll be watching at home. I’m actually quite excited. I wish we were in Madrid!

FamilyOfAliens · 01/06/2019 09:26

I actually wish you were there, OP.

I’d give my right arm to see you on the 10 o’clock news, standing with your arms folded and a cat’s bum face, looking down your nose at all the louts singing.

You’d be a meme within seconds.

TruffleShuffles · 01/06/2019 09:50

Why are you getting offended/concerned about people in a city you are not even in? Considering Real have 4 of the last 5 champions league titles the city is more than used to crazy European nights and I don’t think will be begrudging the English fans enjoying themselves there this weekend.

I’ve been in a big town near Barcelona numerous times when they have won the league and the Spanish are every bit as crazy if not more crazy than British fans when celebrating football and everyone enjoys themselves.

hammeringinmyhead

We’re never gonna stop....

Can’t wait for tonight - DH, DCs and I will be in our mighty city of Liverpool to watch our beloved team. So proud of the players, the manager, the fans and our progress.

And, yes, I’d LOVE to be in Madrid, but Liverpool is a close second!

Up the Mighty Reds ❤️

azulmariposa · 01/06/2019 09:54

Football is massive in Spain.
It's nothing they haven't seen before.
I love Madrid. It's always heaving there, apart from August when it's 40c and too hot to do anything.
I'm in Spain at the moment and I'd love to be in Madrid. I hate football though!

JacquesHammer · 01/06/2019 09:55

I think it is a bit disturbing that with the number of unnecessary planes that are flying around europe spewing out CO2 for football matches between English teams the biggest thing for some people is a bit of chanting. Lets keep the chanting in the UK and reduce everyone's carbon footprint is my opinion

This made me giggle Grin

azulmariposa · 01/06/2019 09:58

Also, Madrid is the noisiest city I've been to. Spanish people are LOUD!!! A normal conversation sounds like an argument 😂
It's truly the city that never sleeps.

howwudufeel · 01/06/2019 10:01

Have you ever been to Liverpool azul? Grin

Splodgetastic · 01/06/2019 10:03

The Spaniards love the football and it should be a good party atmosphere. There are always a few idiots unfortunately and probably the hot weather won’t help, but it’s nowhere near as bad as it used to be when we had as bad a reputation as the Russian ultras (who model themselves on the original English football hooligans).

azulmariposa · 01/06/2019 10:03

Yep! Madrid is much noisier. Dsd is a Liverpudlian.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 01/06/2019 10:04

I'd love to be there. I support neither Liverpool or Spurs. I always feel a bit sorry for people that dont 'get' it. They are missing out and then there's random snobbery.

Passthecherrycoke · 01/06/2019 10:05

Well all teams have their hooligans but I wouldn’t be particularly concerned about Liverpool or spurs as being full of football thugs.

Intelligence is so well established and joined up in Europe, a football hooligan is very unlikely to have even made it out the country, let alone got into Spain and ripping up the squares in Madrid. People are just having fun

notacooldad · 01/06/2019 10:06

If it's not for you, it's not for you.
Each to their own and all that.
Loads of people are excited and looking forward to the game.

I have no interest in it what's so ever but do understand the excitement people are feeling.

HazelBite · 01/06/2019 10:06

I wish I could be in Madrid!
I bet the atmosphere is awesome, its a once in a lifetime thing if you are a Spurs fan!
I think its great that two English teams are in the Final
But will the final live up to the semis?????

Come on you Spurs!!!!

(I'm ignoring the OP)

RiversDisguise · 01/06/2019 10:07

I'd kill to be there

YABamiserablesnob

howwudufeel · 01/06/2019 10:08

azul I really think that Liverpool would give Madrid a run for its money!

Freakingouttt · 01/06/2019 10:10

I agree OP.

I had the unfortunate experience of coming across the last night of the proms. It was bloody awful, singing, flag waving hooligans Wink

GoFiguire · 01/06/2019 10:13

I’m in Madrid and am in a bar seated next to Prince William who is necking Jagerbombs and Flaming Sambucas in equal measures. He’s about to take his top off noooooooo don’t do it Willaz!!! Oh oh, he’s standing on the table shouting “Up yer Arsenal”

Anyway, if footie is good enough for Willaz then it’s good enough for me.

Clubbercised · 01/06/2019 10:30

I always feel a bit sorry for people that dont 'get' it.

I feel sorry for me too! I honestly wish I could get excited about football. I've tried, but nope! Not for me.

But, tbf, I get why English people are a bit excited that it's two England teams. If it was two of my own country's teams, I might raise a smile or say "oh that's good". Wouldn't be able to work up a roar or a chant though.

I do think the English have a particular relationship with football. Where I live people tend to be quite reserved in their day to day life, so it's always quite incongruent when the normally very reserved, stiff lipped man starts roaring and swearing at the referee over his pint Grin.

If Spanish or Italians roar with excitement it isn't quite as unexpected somehow.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 01/06/2019 10:34

I always feel a bit sorry for people that dont 'get' it

But why? Do you also feel sorry for people who don't like cricket? Tennis? Darts? Tiddly winks? Why does it always seem to be that football has to be adored by everyone and anyone who doesn't is a boring snob?

I'm absolutely positive that, if you're a fan, Madrid is going to be a bloody amazing place to be this weekend. Nor do I think fans are mindless yobs. But not everyone is a fan and that's OK too.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 01/06/2019 10:36

The grammar in my post is abysmal sorry. Blush

Kab30 · 01/06/2019 10:38

I'm in Madrid and I'm not a football yob ...partner and I have come to soak in atmosphere and watch our two teams ..please dont tar with same brush OP x

LakieLady · 01/06/2019 10:39

Football is turning into the new Facebook

I was ahead of the curve then. I've hated anything to do with football supporters since I bought a house about a mile from Selhurst Park in 1982.

The absurd park anywhere mentality, the swearing, moronic chanting and sexualised behaviour as fans walk back to the station, the pissing in the front garden as they took a short cut, being nearly stampeded as Brighton fans ran amok in the centre of Croydon. And they shared their ground for years, so it was every fucking weekend and one year, both teams were in the play-offs and for a couple of weeks it was almost every goddamned night.
