To ask what's a "chore" you never do?

Just wondering what chores, or jobs as we call them, you never do? Whether it's one nobody in your household does or one that is just someone else's job in your dynamic?

We never iron. All our clothes come straight out the wash and are folded or put on hangers and put away. I don't work and DP gets to wear jeans and a t shirt to work so we don't really have things that need to be ironed. We own an iron but it's sat in the same spot for over 6 months.

So what's a job you never do in your own home? Bins out? Dusting? Changing the bed sheets? Or am I just very relaxed about clothing?

I don’t do the laundry (washing/drying/ironing), or painting and decorating or gardening or filing paperwork and doing tax returns or putting away the shopping, as my husband does those. He actually finds ironing therapeutic Shock!

BillywigSting · 29/05/2019 01:06

I don't mow the lawn, I'm a hayfevery mess and can't actually see very much by the time I'm about halfway done so that's dp's job.

I also don't do putting out wheelie bins.

Anything to do with dishwashers as we don't own one

I never mop except in the most dire of circumstances. The floor gets spot cleaned and swept every day, that is quite clean enough.

Also don't do the oven as the oven cleaner gives me an asthma attack

I don't have anything to do with the attick as I can't get into it, I'm too short to reach the hatch even on the top step of the ladder.

NaomifromMilkshake · 29/05/2019 01:12

We have been together thirty years, in that time I have mostly not done the following.

Iron
Walk the dog
Clean
Garden

I do:

Shop (for food)
Cook (during the week)
Keep all the mental balls in the air.
Manage the finances
Organise any work that needs doing in the house
Organise the gardener in the summer months

DH is close to retirement now but I am eight years behind, so the help is now all achievable without breaking the bank, but in the early years the first twenty Grin DH was away Monday to Friday, I went without clothes and holidays to have a calm and balanced life all year round as opposed to two weeks in the sun and no help at home.

Namechangeforthegamechange · 29/05/2019 01:16

Blow jobs. Nope nope nope.

Abouttoblow · 29/05/2019 01:18

I find it really hard to believe that people don't iron and go out/go to work/send their kids to school in clothing that creased. I don't believe that at all.

2toddlers · 29/05/2019 01:30

I don’t do the cooking, I’m not very good at it and hate it, my husband is a great cook and doesn’t mind it. He also does the food shop too, I don’t wash the car and I don’t mow the lawn/do the garden either. I also never go into the loft I’m not tall enough or strong enough to pull myself up to get in there so that’s my husband’s department too. Pulling the bins down the drive on bin day is also his job. Any diy requiring power tools is his job too. Sorting out energy suppliers and meter readings, another not my department. Sounds like I do nothing but every other job in the house is my job, my list is 10x his!!

1forAll74 · 29/05/2019 01:58

I don't use my iron anymore. it's a shame really,as I have an old ironing board in my shed,it's a wooden, home made one, made by my late grandfather in 1939,and used to like using it.

I live alone.and have to do all the crap jobs,,which I kind of put off for ages. My worst offence , is not hoovering up the cat hairs for a few days,,I have three ginger and white cats.

TooManyPaws · 29/05/2019 02:01

This is a spider-friendly household.

I rarely iron. I deliberately choose jersey fabrics for work to avoid it.
I don't wash up. Everything goes in the dishwasher.
I don't make the bed until I go to bed. Wrapping the duvet around her is the disabled dog's safe space, then she sleeps at my feet under the duvet.
I haven't dusted my lightbulbs since I failed Commodore's rounds for not doing so at HMS Drake in 19-canteen.
I don't wash the car. I muck it out from time to time. It just gets muddy again from the farm road.

I put it down to a reaction to having an inspecting officer-style father.

Everytimeref · 29/05/2019 07:23

Rarely put petrol in my car. Once it gets near empty it magically fills again.

Don't mind ironing.

thaegumathteth · 29/05/2019 07:33

Dh works away a lot so obviously then I do it all but when he’s here I don’t
*fill the car up with fuel (I used to and then once I forgot and he went on and on and on about it so now I never do)
*empty the kitchen bin

  • clean the shower

Also neither of us clean on top of kitchen cupboards or behind fridges - I just can’t care enough to bother

agirlhasnonameX · 29/05/2019 07:38

I buy non-Iron school clothes from M&S, come out the wash and dry creaseless mostly.

I don't wear shirts or jeans, or clothes that are likely to look crushed. The ones I do, straighten out in the air or they aren't that crushed to begin with.

DD2 does go to nursery in creased clothes occasionally, but she's clean, fed and happy so 🤷🏻‍♀️

BonAccordSpur · 29/05/2019 07:40

Ironing..putting bins out..unloading dishwasher..putting food delivery away..coffee making -i call it 'Barista training' for DC&they enjoy making me a flat white anywayGrin..hoovering..im a lone parent &its just pitching in &each doing something, plus id hate the kids to leave home&not be able to manage simple chores.

speakout · 29/05/2019 07:42

It isn't important if you believe it or not.

It happens.

I iron nothing.

letsgomaths · 29/05/2019 07:43

A silly one, but I absolutely refuse to open a champagne bottle, or bottle with a similar cork; I'm terrified of the noise, or having a "meet the parents" of smashing something expensive. I also can't bear to be in the room if someone else does it!

Ragwort · 29/05/2019 07:45

I’m amazed at the aversion to ironing, maybe I don’t do it properly but I quite like it as a mindless task I can do in front of the TV, takes I longer than ten minutes twice a week.

But I now loathe everything to do with cooking, the planning, the prep, the never ending decision of ‘what to eat’, faffing around with veg, and the clearing up, even with an fairly easy pasta dish it seems to take at leat an hour (including eating) and it has to be done most days .... give me 10 minutes ironing twice a week, much easier.

K456789 · 29/05/2019 07:48

I never ever hoover the stairs. My husband does that.

Drogosnextwife · 29/05/2019 07:49

Ironing
Making beds (just shake them and fold them back)
I hate washing the dishes, unfortunately it's a daily task.
Putting the washing away, again still have to do it.
Pairing socks (I generally stick them all in a big plastic washing basket and rake through to find pairs every morning, which is probably more annoying)

livin · 29/05/2019 07:50

Wash the windows.

NeverSayFreelance · 29/05/2019 07:51

Ironing. I think it's pointless. The clothes don't look crumpled so why bother?

XXcstatic · 29/05/2019 07:52

A silly one, but I absolutely refuse to open a champagne bottle

Not that silly - a friend of ours very nearly lost his eye to a misfired champagne cork Shock

NeverSayFreelance · 29/05/2019 07:55

@speakout well believe it, it's true. My work clothes are never ironed. I don't have kids but my mum is also a non-ironer and my school clothes were never ironed. I don't even know how to use the iron😂

NeverSayFreelance · 29/05/2019 07:56

Oh shoot, wrong tag -meant @Abouttoblow

notso · 29/05/2019 08:17

Apart from driving which DH certainly sees as a chore I can't think of anything else I don't do.

muddyboots · 29/05/2019 08:29

I don't bring in coal/logs once the fire is lit. If we do need more fuel during the evening then either the fire goes out or DP fetches more in.

acquiescence · 29/05/2019 08:36

I don’t iron, and I barely dust, a quick wipe round visible surfaces with a damp cloth every so often. I find it amazing to see how many people don’t make the bed- don’t you find the entire house feels messy with beds unmade?
