To ask what's a "chore" you never do?

Just wondering what chores, or jobs as we call them, you never do? Whether it's one nobody in your household does or one that is just someone else's job in your dynamic?

We never iron. All our clothes come straight out the wash and are folded or put on hangers and put away. I don't work and DP gets to wear jeans and a t shirt to work so we don't really have things that need to be ironed. We own an iron but it's sat in the same spot for over 6 months.

So what's a job you never do in your own home? Bins out? Dusting? Changing the bed sheets? Or am I just very relaxed about clothing?

Empty the bins and put them out. That's DH's job.

Ragwort · 28/05/2019 21:07

Laurie Grin actually I consider sex a bit of a chore & avoid it as much as possible, where do I find one of those husbands who isn’t interested in sex ? Grin.

OhTheRoses · 28/05/2019 21:08

I don't clean or iron.

DH doesn't mow or trim hedges/trees

Those jobs are subcontracted

I launder, sort, change beds, shop and cook
DH does bins, outdoor paintwork, sweeping

We share the dishwasher. We are both tidy.

midsomermurderess · 28/05/2019 21:09

I'm worse than I even think, reading this stuff. My sofa is too heavy and low to move to clean under, under and behind the fridge, no. I'm having stuff done in my flat that is very messy and dusty so I'm going to pay a company for a deep clean. If that goes well, I'll have it done once a year.

ladybee28 · 28/05/2019 21:09

@YesQueen I don't de-ice my car. A neighbour does it (I think. No matter what time I go out, it's scraped and ready to drive) 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ for the last 10 years. No idea who it is

What the what?! That's amazing! I am so into this mystery - WHO IS YOUR GUARDIAN CAR ANGEL?!

bedunkalilt · 28/05/2019 21:10

I never wash dishes. We don’t have a dishwasher (very common around here) so it has to be done by hand. I also never vacuum or wash the floors. These are DH’s jobs.

On the other hand DH doesn’t do laundry, or machine maintenance (like descaling the kettle or clearing the washing machine filter, but these aren’t exactly frequent jobs). These are my jobs.

All other jobs are shared between us to varying degrees. Some jobs are relatively infrequent (like weeding, oven cleaning) but they do get done at some point. I can’t think of a job that none of us ever do, but perhaps I’m just unaware of things we’re missing!

recklessgran · 28/05/2019 21:10

I don't empty bins or put bins out for bin men - DH does.
I don't deal with any recycling - DH loves it.
I don't clean windows - DH does inside, window cleaner does outside.
I don't decorate/DIY, DH does that.
I don't do gardening or mow the lawn - DH loves doing it.
I don't clean cars - we take them to the car wash for a valet.
I don't clean the oven - have a specialist firm out annually to do that.
I do everything else. I think we're quite old fashioned but I love keeping our home beautiful and cooking lovely meals for DH and anyone else that happens to be around. Works fine for us but no DC at home and semi retired.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 28/05/2019 21:12

Ironing. We don’t even own an iron. I have a tumbler, of it can’t be tumbled or dried on a hanger it doesn’t get bought.

I’m not allowed to rearrange my fridge and freezer. My eldest child has a shitfit if I mess up the system. I stand and pass the stuff over and do as I’m told!:o

YesQueen · 28/05/2019 21:12

@ladybee28 not a clue! I worked for the emergency services at one point and I presume they saw me in my uniform. If i went out at 6am to set off for work, it was scraped and ready to drive

IsabellaLinton · 28/05/2019 21:12

Damp dusting. My DM does her skirting boards, blinds and doors Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. I only vacuum them. I know she’s deeply disappointed in me.

MashedSpud · 28/05/2019 21:12

Ironing. Unless it’s really necessary.

Disfordarkchocolate · 28/05/2019 21:15

I don't do the bins or any recycling
I don't hoover
I don't wash the floors
All done by my lovely husband who never notices when bedding or towels need washing. Most other things we both do.

lucymegan · 28/05/2019 21:15

Cutting the grass. Hate it.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 28/05/2019 21:15

I don't clean the oven, mow any grass, or do 80% of the laundry. DH does those. I do iron and I do all of the cooking, but he's bad at it and I enjoy it. He stacks the dishwasher because he's really anal about it and will rearrange it if I do it. I do all of the electrical work but I do not do any jobs that need sealant or anything. I also don't do bins unless he isn't about.

fedup21 · 28/05/2019 21:17

I don't do bins or blow jobs

That made me laugh so much I spilt my drink Grin

MeganBacon · 28/05/2019 21:20

Windows only get done when MIL is coming to stay.

Mother87 · 28/05/2019 21:22

Ragwort - have mineSmilewell he's certainly not interested in having any with ME with my baggy tshirt hairy legs tache & bed covered in catsBlush

MitziK · 28/05/2019 21:23

Cleaning anything that involves reaching/looking above shoulder level. My neck can't take it.

DP has therefore been introduced to such joys as sugarsoaping the tops of kitchen cupboards and cleaning the insides, wiping over light fittings and washing the pot rack twice a year. I'll do the floor level ones without complaint. And he takes down, washes and puts curtains back up when asked, along with cleaning the inside of the huge living room window. I wouldn't mind ironing if he got the board and steam generator thingy out for me and brought them downstairs so I could do it sitting down in front of the telly, but he does his shirts upstairs where they live and doesn't see the need for ironed sheets/bed linen, so I don't do it.

I'm crap at putting clothes away and only do it when the piles get too big or I'm purging stuff that's knackered/doesn't fit right. He puts his own things and the bedlinen away.

I detest cleaning filters/blocked drains, though. Easily the worst task in the world.

Mother87 · 28/05/2019 21:23

Secret de-icers!! Who knew?!ShockShock

mindproject · 28/05/2019 21:24

I would also like a husband that doesn't want sex much, I don't mind once or twice a year. I also want one that does most of the housework. Let's face it, I have no hope.

mawof3soontobe · 28/05/2019 21:26

@ladybee28 hair removal cream down the plug! Dissolves it all and no one has to do it

XXcstatic · 28/05/2019 21:26

Have never cleaned my oven (neither has DH). We have had it 14 years Smile. I have also never pulled it out to clean behind it. I do clean the stovetop

LovelyJubblee · 28/05/2019 21:27

We never iron

TheGrapefulDread · 28/05/2019 21:31

Iron, I pay a lovely lady to come to the house and do it. Sending it out was an absolute faff.

shitpark · 28/05/2019 21:31

Never
iron,
make beds,
fold clothes
clean doors and skirting unless with hoover
dust unless with hoover
hand wash clothes
clean windows
pay bills: direct debit takes care of that, I am like a disorganised child otherwise
