To ask what's a "chore" you never do?

Just wondering what chores, or jobs as we call them, you never do? Whether it's one nobody in your household does or one that is just someone else's job in your dynamic?

We never iron. All our clothes come straight out the wash and are folded or put on hangers and put away. I don't work and DP gets to wear jeans and a t shirt to work so we don't really have things that need to be ironed. We own an iron but it's sat in the same spot for over 6 months.

So what's a job you never do in your own home? Bins out? Dusting? Changing the bed sheets? Or am I just very relaxed about clothing?

Ironing, cleaning oven, fridge, inside kitchen cupboards, skirting boards and radiators. I'm really just a lazy cow.

Newadventure · 28/05/2019 20:45

hogfather
I hate putting clean washing away too! It just feels like after all the washing, drying and folding (I don't iron either unless it's a shirt or we need to be smart etc rare ) it's just too much effort.
I have a new bed that lifts up so underneath is all storage, when I have a new pile of clean clothes I just stick them all in there in one go, so sorting needed!
It's become like one huge drawer Grin I love it and beats having a pile of clothes stacked on a chair or in the corner of the bedroom. 🤷‍♀️ also my bed always smells nice from all the clean clothes underneath it.

Newadventure · 28/05/2019 20:46

*no sorting needed

TheBoyWhoLostHisSocks · 28/05/2019 20:46

Seems that bin emptying is a good one for DP's to do Wink and yes to cooking! DP does most of ours. Ew to the drains too! I just pour a load of unblocking stuff down there and hope for the best.

Never feeding your dogs and getting someone else to sounds like the right way to have a dog.

Dusting is way too much of a pain in the arse.

And I'm a very religious bed maker. Even on the days I'm going to change the sheets! Blush

We’ve worked put a husband/wife split over the years.
I don’t (or virtually never)

  • put bins out
  • iron
  • clear leaves from gutters
  • make morning tea
  • fetch logs in
  • sweep terrace
  • paint any part of the house
  • clean windows
  • wash up pans
  • clean cars
  • water plants
LillithsFamiliar · 28/05/2019 20:57

I never iron or hoover or wash clothes or put them in the dryer. They're DH's jobs.

EggplantVestibule · 28/05/2019 20:57

I never empty the bin, that's a blue job in our house, meaning DH does it. When we first lived together we accidentally each ended up with our own chores, which at some point over the last 15 years have been affectionately nicknamed blue and pink jobs. Oh I also never hoover the stairs, although it's a pink job, as I can't physically manage it, so DH does it (it's now a purple job). Yes, we are aware that we are weird.

midsomermurderess · 28/05/2019 20:58

Cleaning my fridge, it's a disgrace. And cleaning my doors and skirting boards. Just cba.

mindproject · 28/05/2019 20:58

I can't remember the last time I cleaned the oven. I think I've only cleaned it twice in 8 years. It looks fine though, we don't use it much and I line the bottom with foil, which I replace every now and then.

Also, some windows in our house have never been cleaned. I can't clean the upstairs ones on the outside and there are no window cleaners nearby, so I just ignore it.

Gwenhwyfar · 28/05/2019 20:59

Cooking.
Assembling furniture.
I live in a rented flat so no DIY or outside work to do anyway.

Thehop · 28/05/2019 21:00

I iron most things but husband does all the cooking

midsomermurderess · 28/05/2019 21:00

Oh, yes, oven here too, but it's nice and new and shiny so l'll worry about that later. Ironing only in extremis, and the windows. Am I am slattern?

dementedma · 28/05/2019 21:01

rarely dust - just can't be bothered.
Inside windows get cleaned about once every 6 months. Never do the outside ones. We are too high up and can't find a window cleaner who will do it.
I've read on here that people do skirting boards.....

YesQueen · 28/05/2019 21:01

I don't iron
I don't put my bins out (my neighbours do, they just appear and go out and in) Confused
I don't wash or vac my car (gets done by work perk of the job)

Gwenhwyfar · 28/05/2019 21:01

"And cleaning my doors "

How do you clean a door?

SeamstressfromTreacleMineRoad · 28/05/2019 21:02
  • Wiping skirting boards/tops of doors/door handles
  • Cleaning on top of the kitchen cupboards (goodness knows what they look like - I don't care..!)
  • Cleaning windows - the window cleaner does the outside once a month, and every few months he also comes in and does the inside for double the price (worth every penny)
  • Moving the sofa to vacuum underneath - it's too heavy for me to move
Crazybunnylady123 · 28/05/2019 21:02

I don’t clean the oven.

LaurieFairyCake · 28/05/2019 21:03

Neither of us have ever cleaned the windows

I don't do bins or blow jobs

YesQueen · 28/05/2019 21:03

Oh and I don't de-ice my car. A neighbour does it (I think. No matter what time I go out, it's scraped and ready to drive) 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ for the last 10 years. No idea who it is

Celebelly · 28/05/2019 21:03

We don't iron either. If it has to be ironed and/or can't be tumble dried then it isn't welcome in our house. DP always takes bin out when he goes to work in the morning so that's his 'job'. Other than that, we both do most things I think. Oh I hate washing up so if we need to wash something instead of sticking it in dishwasher then he does it Grin

Sarahlou63 · 28/05/2019 21:03

I do pretty much everything as DP works away - including chain sawing and strimming - but I won't touch electrics and only deal with plumbing if it's an emergency.

midsomermurderess · 28/05/2019 21:03

Cleaning doors? Wiping off the grubby finger prints, dusting off the panels.

TowerRavenSeven · 28/05/2019 21:04

Wash Walls other than spot clean. When it needs freshening we paint. Clean behind refrigerator ~ I don’t do it unless we pull it out to paint! Cobwebs. I don’t mind them they remind me of Halloween.

romany4 · 28/05/2019 21:04

I've never cleaned my oven and I don't dust. I detest dusting

Ragwort · 28/05/2019 21:05

Gardening. DIY. Car stuff.

I do most other chores, but to very low standards, my least favourite chore is vacuuming, I do it about once a fortnight [no pets or young DC Grin),I pay for a professional oven clean. Ironing genuinely doesn’t bother me. Hate ‘admin’, anything IT related, booking holidays etc but I would choose to use a travel agent & pay extra for the convenience.
