To ask what's a "chore" you never do?

Just wondering what chores, or jobs as we call them, you never do? Whether it's one nobody in your household does or one that is just someone else's job in your dynamic?

We never iron. All our clothes come straight out the wash and are folded or put on hangers and put away. I don't work and DP gets to wear jeans and a t shirt to work so we don't really have things that need to be ironed. We own an iron but it's sat in the same spot for over 6 months.

So what's a job you never do in your own home? Bins out? Dusting? Changing the bed sheets? Or am I just very relaxed about clothing?

Very rarely iron, I'm a big fan of a hair straightener to the collar if needed or hang more fragile fabrics in the bathroom so the shower steam gets to them.
I wish I could be bothered to clean the oven but I only do the hob top. Years ago I bought a pound shop oven cleaner and it was so strong I vomited! My lungs hurt for days after and that pretty much put me off for life.

lastqueenofscotland · 28/05/2019 21:32

Iron

Disfordarkchocolate · 28/05/2019 21:34

Ironing is rarely done here too. Lots of clothes are dried on hangers, in a breeze if possible. I also make sure I don't buy clothes that will need ironing. I wish I had started doing this earlier.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/05/2019 21:38

Apparantly in my house I am the only one qualified to:

Do car stuff
Clean toilets
Put the bins out

I don't do anything techy or to do with the TV, PC or WiFi though

nowifi · 28/05/2019 21:39

I don't iron either. OH doesn't do anything at all really Envy

Supersimpkin · 28/05/2019 21:40

I've never cleaned the oven. It's fine.

Cleaning a really grim fridge only takes 3 min if you throw everything out and wipe with loo roll. Spotless Grin

Canone · 28/05/2019 21:41

We never iron either.

I can’t think of any chores I don’t do (but lots that DH doesn’t, hmm) but I don’t go into the loft! The ladder is dodgy and I’m not great with heights anyway, freaks me right out.

AlexaAmbidextra · 28/05/2019 21:41

Cleaning on top of the kitchen cupboards (goodness knows what they look like

No, I would never do these. However, they used to get done in my house by my last cat. He used to squeeze along the cupboards en route to the top of the boiler so they used to get dusted by accident. 😹. I miss that cat.

sugarplumfairy28 · 28/05/2019 21:42

Iron, don't even own one. If there is an interview, funeral, wedding I borrow my Mum's.

I don't empty the food bin, DH does it, it makes me gag.

I rarely make the kids beds, they mess them up over the course of the day anyway.

ravenmum · 28/05/2019 21:42

I have cut back seriously on the ironing but have some things that get out of shape otherwise.
Knickers, socks and bras are all just poked in one big drawer in a pile.

I have an accountant do my tax stuff. He is a bit rubbish - really slow - but I hate it.

Langrish · 28/05/2019 21:43

Ironing if I can help it.

expatinspain · 28/05/2019 21:43

Ironing.

Siameasy · 28/05/2019 21:44

I only iron my work trousers (uniform). Nothing else.
I too have memories of my mum ironing for hours and ironing underwear
My friend irons her toddler’s clothes. Everything! Why?!

U2HasTheEdge · 28/05/2019 21:45

Empty the bins
Make beds
Clean the windows
Clean the oven
Put clothes away- except for my own at times
Unblock drains
Dust
Wash car/ clean car
Clean oven
Gardening
Clean under and behind the sofa

ToffeePennie · 28/05/2019 21:46

I don’t iron. If absolutely necessary I will shove it on my heat press.
I never do the windows. Just doesn’t occult to me.
I don’t dust until it’s obvious then I give it a quick flick with a duster.
I hoover only when absolutely necessary.
I don’t clean the bath out every night - just when it starts looking grubby.
I never put clothes away - just my oldest sons school uniforms.
Cleaning inside or outside of cupboards.
I’ve never cleaned my oven either (but it is only a year old)
I basically skim most stuff. I do like getting the sink nice and tidy and the toilets gleaming. Can’t beat a dettol floor! But for the most part - my mum is a cleaner so I grew to detest it growing up.

HundredMilesAnHour · 28/05/2019 21:48

I don't make the bed except when changing sheets.

OMG this gives me palpitations. My mother was always super-strict about bedmaking and it seems to have stuck with me. As I step out of bed, I literally turn round and make the bed immediately. On the rare occasion (about once every 10 years) that I don't make the bed the millisecond my feet touch the floor, I felt like I will spontaneously combust if I don't go back and make the bed. Yes I know I'm weird. Blush

By contrast, I don't iron. I think I've ironed about twice in the last 8 years. If something is too creased, I get my travel steamer out. Or wear something else. Wink I try not to buy things that need ironing. I don't actually mind ironing itself but I hate the faffing about getting the ironing board out, plugging the iron in etc. I do know where my iron is though (she writes proudly). Rediscovered it recently when looking for something else.

LovelyJubblee · 28/05/2019 21:48

I even make the beds in a hotel on holiday as I can't stand unmade beds. Boarding school instilled it in me

JaceLancs · 28/05/2019 21:49

I don’t clean windows or ovens
Try and avoid ironing
DD cleans for me occasionally so only do bits in between if really needed

HundredMilesAnHour · 28/05/2019 21:50

Me too. Smile

fraumaximoo · 28/05/2019 21:50

Ironing

Bluntness100 · 28/05/2019 21:51

I don't peel potatoes. I find it mind numbingly dull and refuse. If I cook potatoes fhey have the skin on. Or I get fresh mash from the supermarket. I have also been known to have dinner guests peel them.

violetbunny · 28/05/2019 21:51

I don't really understand how people don't iron at all, even if I was just in jeans and a t-shirt I would feel like I'd been dragged through a hedge backwards if I didn't iron them first Confused

Chocolatekitty · 28/05/2019 21:52

I don't do the bins or the cat litter boxes. In theory, DH is also meant to do the hoovering and dusting and mopping, but I have higher standards of cleanliness... so I either complain incessantly until it's done to my standards, or just do it myself, which is quicker.

We also don't iron. Everything goes straight on hangers out of the washer.

SheilaHammond · 28/05/2019 21:52

Have never and will never do any loft related things.

Never hoovered and never will.

DH does both.

I do laundry, tidying and organising DCs. DH does cooking and dishwasher.

Ontheboardwalk · 28/05/2019 21:52

Clean the car - that’s what a service is for
Skirting boards who does this? I eventually do it when I’m ashamed enough to see dust on them
