To be delighted That Leave Have Lost

I know it looks as if Brexit have won but in every single case, if you add up all the votes secured by the other parties then together they have more votes than Brexit. That means more people want to remain in Europe than Leave.

That’s brilliant if true - still saddened by the massive support for the Brexit party despite everything..

Not all the others are Remain though are they? Conservative and Labour both had Leave on their manifestos and some Independents are definitely for Brexit

I'm not sure your logic is right, sorry.

ineedaholidaynow · 27/05/2019 00:24

At the moment Lib Dem and Green Party together have a greater percentage of the votes than Brexit party, but unfortunately have fewer MEPs

Neolara · 27/05/2019 00:24

I'm not convinced your logic is correct. I think you can compare Brexit Party to a combination of lib dems, greens and change. But if you do, it's close but Brexit generally seem to just have the edge.. Labour's position is so unclear, ive no idea if they are remain or leave and so I don't think we can put them firmly in either camp. And again, no idea what the people who voted Conservative actually want.

Antigonads · 27/05/2019 00:25

Seriously?

Redshoeblueshoe · 27/05/2019 00:25

How are you judging this, when there is hardly any results in ?

WhiteRedRose · 27/05/2019 00:27

Errrm, nope, OP. Conservative are Leave. UKIP are Leave etc etc. Leave have actually won the majority 🤷

Wellmet · 27/05/2019 00:27

I think you're talking shite. I wish leave had lost, but they have clearly won.

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 27/05/2019 00:28

All of the above...
A lot of results still to come in, labour and conservative both have leave on their manifestos yet you're not including their numbers, and you don't know what the independents stand for.
Jumped the gun a bit...

WhiteRedRose · 27/05/2019 00:28

Oh and about 60% of Labour is Leave?! 😳

Not sure where you're getting your sums from Hmm

Skipthisbit · 27/05/2019 00:30

stop .... just stop! It’s depressing enough without making idiots of ourselves. Sadly, this is a categoric win for the leave vote. Both conservative and labour have consistently said they would honour the referendum result and leave. They may have disagreed in the hard/soft whatever but no one who wanted to cast a remain vote could have possibly have thought a vote for either of them signalled that so please don’t attempt to argue it.
brexit/UKIP/cons/labour are all votes to leave. Libdem/snp/green to stay..... it’s bloody obvious which way it has gone Sigh 😔

thisismeusernameything · 27/05/2019 00:30

And here lies the problem with the remain argument. You only see what you want to see.

user1474894224 · 27/05/2019 00:32

Let's also remember this isn't a referendum on the EU. It is to elect MEPs. So...even though they may not have a job for long I voted for the party I thought would do that role best. (With all the uncertainty over Brexit who knows how long they will represent us.)

MustardScreams · 27/05/2019 00:33

Ffs how do people not understand what this vote is for yet?!

Of course for MEPs. But this vote is basically a soft referendum on leave/remain. Tory and Labour are not being counted as a definitive vote either way. Brexit and UKIP are obv leave. Lib Dem, Change UK, SNP, Green and Plaid Cymru are all remain. If you work it out on a percentage basis (as the initial ref was) remain are ahead.

Brexit Party are basically UKIP voters deferring, with some Labour and Tory in there. That’s v clear from the loss of UKIP seats and the gains of BP. And even after a stonking UKIP win at the last MEP elections they got 1 whole seat at the general. So let’s not get too excited shall we?

ILoveEurovision · 27/05/2019 00:33

That means more people want to remain in Europe than Leave.

Poor logic. I voted leave in the referendum but Green on Thursday. I still want us to leave (albeit I favour a soft Brexit) but voted Green for other reasons (ie their stance on environmental issues).

Medievalist · 27/05/2019 00:34

Everyone who voted for the Brexit party wants to leave.

An awful lot of people who voted Green and Lib Dem clearly did so because they want to remain. But some people are on the fence over Brexit and will have voted Green and Lib Dem because they support those parties any way.

MustardScreams · 27/05/2019 00:35

How can people be voting for a manifesto when the BP doesn’t even have one?! If you voted of party policies other than leave or remain then you are incredibly silly indeed.

Shoppingwithmother · 27/05/2019 00:35

Various Lib Dems, Alastair Campbell, etc have been saying this - it isn’t true. You have to add in most of the conservative vote as leave, some of the labour (up to half?), UKIP, etc.

But eg in Yorkshire if you add up the definite remain (Lib Dem 15.5%, Green 13%, Change 2.3%) that comes to 30.8%. The definite remain = Brexit 36.5, UKIP 4.4 = 40.9% - far more.

You could reasonably expect to add in most of the Tory votes for leave, but Labour are much more split. All you can say with certainty though is as I’ve said above.

As usual the remainders just claim whatever they want though....

SusieOwl4 · 27/05/2019 00:36

Labour votes are leave? Really ? I have not got a clue what labour want tbh so I don’t think there is a conclusion. Libs have done well purely because you do know what you are voting for . So clarity has won . That’s all you can say .

donotcovertheradiator · 27/05/2019 00:38

Alistair Campbell was a guest on the BBC and he kept repeating broadly the same thing and he has masses of experience, so no it's not shite thank you very much.

UrsulaPandress · 27/05/2019 00:40

So when a majority of the country voted leave in the referendum your views on that were ...

Shoppingwithmother · 27/05/2019 00:41

As I said, yes I heard Alastair Campbell saying this. Funnily enough his main job was as a Spin Doctor. Which is exactly what he was doing then. He is literally a professional at talking shite and sounding convincing.

SusieOwl4 · 27/05/2019 00:41

So I voted remain and I disagree with the OP so stop generalising.

I just want it all over and done with now . For the sake of British businesses which are suffering every day because of this farce.

Just sort if out and quickly .

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 27/05/2019 00:41

Yorkshire and the Humber (where I live) has gone from

3 UKIP, 2 Tory, 1 * Labour

to

3 Brexit, 1 Labour, 1 Lib, 1 Green

So gone from 3 Leave, 3 Muddled to 3 Leave, 2 Remain, 1 Muddled.

So a swing towards remain but still stronger on Leave.

(The city I live in gave nearly half its votes to Lib Dem plus Green but it is a strong remain city.)
