I know it looks as if Brexit have won but in every single case, if you add up all the votes secured by the other parties then together they have more votes than Brexit. That means more people want to remain in Europe than Leave.

Some insulting remarks but please do remember that many experienced politicans are saying the same thing about Remain winning and I don't think they're thick, even if you think I am. Layla Moran, Lib Dem, is saying it right now...that the Remain parties have a larger vote share and that it should be put to the people. Is she thick too?

Likewise, many people have said the vote, on this issue, should be given to children but hey ho, they must be thick too.

Seems like most people thought this was another leave/remain referendum anyway, so in a way we've already had the second "people's vote".

Justbreathing · 27/05/2019 01:38

I don’t disagree that adding up the votes it’s a good show for remain.
But the rest of your arguments are just plain batshit

Shoppingwithmother · 27/05/2019 01:40

My parents are in their 70s and voted remain, but are now so sick of the remainers that they would vote leave if there was another referendum. A number of their friends are in the same position.

My daughter would have voted remain (aged 9 at the time). She respects democracy though and thinks we should leave.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 27/05/2019 01:40

Tony Blair was a very experienced politician and he told us Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

That's a pretty stupid reason to change your vote, tbf.

usernameuser · 27/05/2019 01:43

I don't want my future decided by a 90 year old!!!

But a 10 year old is fine 😂

DuffBeer · 27/05/2019 01:44

The leader of The Change party was also asked why their party did not form an alliance with the likes of the Lib Dem's, Green etc.

Her response - 'Oh we've not really had the time to talk'

You've had 3 fucking years love!

PreseaCombatir · 27/05/2019 01:44

Hmm, you’re right, it’s difficult to determine who voted to leave, and who voted to remain....
If only there were some kind of binary vote that had taken place...

Dana28 · 27/05/2019 01:44

They are drowning men grasping at straws!

Good for her 👏🏻

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 27/05/2019 01:45

You can argue black is white if you like, but that doesn't make it true.
People who vote for SNP, Plaid, and Green are doing so on issues besides Brexit. Climate change is a bigger worry to lots of people than leaving the EU!
There will be both remain and leave supporters who voted Labour or Conservative. Lib Dems are likely to have support from mostly remain voters so I guess you could add their votes to Change UK and see how that stacks up against Brexit party and UKIP.
I don't think you should formulate your opinions solely on the basis of what the BBC tells you to think.

Peregrina · 27/05/2019 01:46

LibDems gain 14 seats. The Brexit party i.e. Nigel Farage plus some hangers on, gain 4 over the last UKIP performance. The LibDems have had a good night, the Greens OK - I think they have picked up as many new seats as the rebadged UKIP i.e. Farage's Brexit. Do you honestly think it would be anything without him?

I wonder how the ERG group feel about the collapse of the Tory party and their part in its downfall?

Shoppingwithmother · 27/05/2019 01:47

Have you noticed though OP that all the people saying it are remainers? Do you think they may be biased at all?

And that they are politicians, who put the spin they want on all sorts of things to persuade people of their opinion?

And yes, if you seriously think children should get a vote you are “thick”

It just becomes a contest of who has the most children - remainers or leavers. I’ll have to say I don’t think much of people who take their young children to marches with huge crowds of people and stick “bollocks to Brexit” stickers on them. I don’t think those children would get a free vote and be able to weigh up the options to decide what to vote for.

Justbreathing · 27/05/2019 01:47

The bbc haven’t said anything about why people have voted.
They’ve said who people have voted for and had others on to talk about their opinions.

jewel1968 · 27/05/2019 01:48

I think you would have to take con and lab out if the equation and then calculate. A vote for con or lab probably should not be deemed a vote for leave or remain given the split within both. Given the complexity I don't think this can really be used as a proxy for a referendum.

ILoveEurovision · 27/05/2019 01:48

Layla Moran, Lib Dem, is saying it right now...that the Remain parties have a larger vote share and that it should be put to the people. Is she thick too?

Possibly not, but certainly self-interested and willing to spin things (arguably dishonestly) to get what she wants.

Do you believe everything that politicians say OP?

Peregrina · 27/05/2019 01:48

People who vote for SNP, Plaid, and Green are doing so on issues besides Brexit. Climate change is a bigger worry to lots of people than leaving the EU!

This argument wasn't allowed to wash after the last GE - it was all "80% of people voted for parties which supported Brexit." despite many people voting to put more money into schools, the NHS, sort out the housing market, provide better jobs. So this argument needn't wash now.

Peregrina · 27/05/2019 01:51

I don’t think those children would get a free vote and be able to weigh up the options to decide what to vote for.

Children are perfectly capable of making up their own minds. As soon as I was old enough to vote, I didn't vote the same way as either of my parents. I don't think ever, from what I remember.

Shoppingwithmother · 27/05/2019 01:54

Yes, Peregrina, but presumably you were at least 18 then, not 10!!

TheSandman · 27/05/2019 01:57

Has anyone here looked at the map?
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-48403131

Scotland is overwhelmingly Leave. The SNP - the most remain of all the parties has increased its vote and looks like it has increased its number of MEPs (at the expense of Labour).

Adding the Pro EU/ remain votes here:
SNP 39.9%
Lib Dems 13.9
Greens 8.3

Gives 62.1%

Scotland want to stay in the EU. The only way we can manage to do this would be leaving England to its own devices. Break up the UK. For some reason we haven't done this yet. But I strongly suspect we will. And soon.

TheSandman · 27/05/2019 02:00

But a 10 year old is fine 😂

How old IS Boris Johnson?

NumbersStation · 27/05/2019 02:23

The ten year old at the top of the road wants to be a unicorn.

Her sharp as a tack granny, knocking on 70, astounds me with her knowledge.

Let me think which one I'd like to vote...

I don't think viewing this as a second referendum is very helpful. Ignoring the low turnout, each of Leave and Remain can plausibly spin their own narrative.

The only thing that's abundantly clear to me from the results is that it's time for Corbyn to fuck off and for Labour to get off the fence (presumably coming down on the Remain side, as per most of their supporters).
